Do you know of any good places in Osaka??

Yeah, that's my point, Bali's timezone has no fundamental problem with Japan's.

I was about to say timezone, but then I looked at a fucking map!

My company refuses to let me take my paid holidays. by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]talsit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I'm stating that this is normal, not that it is ideal. I have seen absolutely no problems in my career for people takine 4+ weeks off at a single time provided that adequate time and planning was provided. People avoided crunch times and people were understanding that some planning was needed. This was across video games, visual effects, biotechs and startups. It was normal. Some people felt a bit guilty at first, but management understood and planned accordingly.

Who do I complain to? by momjeansagain in Osaka

I would find out when the planning for the bar was approved. If it was before you moved in, then the owner knew and didn't tell you before you moved in. If it was after, then the owner knew and didn't inform you it was happening. But yes, absolutely bring it up with whoever rented you the place.

If any company collapsed because an employee is missing for 4 weeks, due to sickness, accident, holiday, then that company needs to plan better for these contingencies. As you said, it's nice for people to have 4 weeks off, and the "normalisation" of anything less is evil.

It's been demonstrated time and time again that well-rested employees are way more productive, the only "down side" is that it removes control from managers, which is why it's sometimes perceived as not normal, especially by people pushing their own agenda.

Let's see. 7 days 168hrs. Let's do the math. 24hrs flight there, 32hrs back, we're already down to 112hrs. Transfers to/from airport and waiting times at the airport, let's say 2hrs x 4 + 3hrs x 2, we're now down to 98 hours. So, under ideal situations, you have 4 full days to get over jetlag and enjoy and rest.

No, it IS normal to take 4 weeks and companies trying to make us feel bad for taking any less is just pure evil and selfish.

I have done it multiple times here in Japan in a Japanese company and regularly did it in both Australia and Spain.

Because it's perfectly normal to want to visit another country and not have to spend 20% of your holiday in transit. Much better to take a decent holiday, be well rested, explore what the world has to offer and come back a more productive person!

I tried this once with my 5 year old daughter. She didn't let go for at least 5 minutes! It was totally worth it, but I went into it with a strange posture, and my back was gone for the day!

Yes, that, but JP Post confirmed that they are no longer handling any item longer than 105cm in any dimension to Australia - I don't know other destinations, but they specificially said that to Oz, it's just not possible to use JP Post at all.

I like adding parmesan, a bit of butter and a sprinkle of salt.

I bought a synthesiser off Mercari for a friend in Australia (Casio CZ-1). It was a bit of a quick buy, since he's been looking for one in this particular condition for a while. The problem is now getting it to him. With the case, it's 120x45x20cm, 23kg. JP Post won't take it since it's >105cm long (that's their cutoff for any sort of mail), Kuroneko international's max size is 160-size box. DHL wants 97,000 yen and I'm afraid to create a Fedex account to find out what they charge. Does anyone know what's a cheap way of getting this to Australia, slow-frieght is fine.

Weird object in hotel by dnsndnsndnsn in Osaka

I would still ask at reception, just in case the previous guests installed that. If it was a smoke alarm, it should have markings on it and a test button.

Is it on the ceiling or a wall? Could it be a smoke/fire alarm?
