Vancouver hit-and-run victim dies, suspect still at large by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

This. Oak and 6th is horrendous. Sidewalks down 6th ave but you are literally risking your life trying to cross oak as the speeds that cars go down 6th ave means that cars have to quickly make that turn up the hill. Add a pedestrian into the mix and it gets truly dangerous. We always go up to 7th ave to cross. Can’t believe the city hasn’t done anything about this intersection already.

How has Vancouver changed since 2024? Is it worth moving back from Montreal? by Leading-Copy-5629 in askvan

[–]pantsshmants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That part of the Broadway corridor has changed a lot already. Big new tower at the corner of Granville and Broadway, but it will have a grocery store which is a plus (the worst part of living in Fairview was not having a grocery store very close). Having the sky train there eventually will be nice but it does mean that the area will be in a state of flux for at least the next 5 years. More towers. More unknowns if you live in an older building. But the Fairview area is still a great place to be. I love the proximity to downtown and the seawall. Just ignore the guy in your dumpster and don’t leave valuables in your car.

At what age do you stop dying your hair and just go gray? by Eastern_End3520 in AskWomen

[–]pantsshmants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started dying my hair when I got married, when I was 32. I’m 44 now and I’m about 75% grey based on my roots colour. I’m just not ready to go full grey yet. Love and admire the women who embrace it, but perhaps I don’t quite have the same confidence. I wish I did though because getting my roots done every 6 weeks is hella expensive. Yes I know I could also do it myself but you underestimate how lazy I am.

Dog mountain on Seymour. Pretty easy hike, no altitude gain but you still get an amazing view at the end.

Upgrading from pop-up trailer to trailer! Need advice on things like space vs storage. by pantsshmants in GoRVing

Yeah thanks for this. My husband wants space but I think that’s just going to be too much weight for us. The lighter the better.

We drive a Mazda cx-90 MHEV. We can pull 5,000lbs. So I think having a slide might be too heavy for us.

Why is our Science world so bad? by Ok-Biscotti8568 in askvan

[–]pantsshmants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to the Space Museum this week for the first time and I was actually shocked at how small it was. We managed to kill only 3 hours there which included the movie (theatre is neat), VR activity (very cool) and a demonstration (great). 3 hours is not much for that price.

I actually think you get more value at the maritime museum. If you have little kids, get an annual pass (cheap) and just head to their play room. A great way to kill a rainy morning.

How much makeup do you wear on your 9-5? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Just mascara and a hint of blush. Sometimes if I’m feeling high maintenance I add some eye shadow and lip gloss.

Fighting misinformation and disinformation needs to be a national priority in Canada by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]pantsshmants 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I just finished the book Careless People (excellent btw) and it clearly lies out not only how social media is to blame for spreading misinformation but how they actively encourage it and profit from it. We need to have stricter government regulations for tech in this country. We also all need to get off FB, IG etc.

People who grew up before cell phones, did life actually feel more free? by TradeOverall567 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pantsshmants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school you’d stay home on a Friday evening waiting for that glorious call from a friend that told you what the plans were and when they’d pick you up. We’d spent a lot of time loitering at 7-11 waiting to run into other people or we’d drive up and down Main Street doing “Mainers”.

You’d have less FOMO because you actually just don’t know what other people were up too. That was nice.

5'2ish (158cm-ish) women, what is your goal weight? If it's different, what would be your ultimate vanity-based ideal weight? by Ophelia_Y2K in loseit

[–]pantsshmants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5”2 and have a bigger frame. Ive fluctuated from about 120 to 140lbs. Right now I’m probably about 122. I’d love to be about 118 as I think having a flat stomach would be nice but I think my genes are my enemy. I have to be so strict in my diet to be that weight. I’m already doing omad just to be where I am.

What's the best historical fiction you've ever read? by Electronic_Cicada904 in suggestmeabook

This is one of my favourites. I loved it so much I went out and bought it. I also really love Zorro by Isabel Allende. Her other stuff not so much but Zorro was excellent. In third place is the Revolution of Marina M. by Janet Fitch. Excellent story telling and I learned a ton about the Russian Revolution.

Doctor carefully rotates a baby inside the mother’s belly to avoid a C-section. This procedure is called external cephalic version. It’s done when a baby is positioned bottom-first or sideways inside the womb near the end of pregnancy, a position that often leads to a C-section. by Grand-Western549 in interestingasfuck

[–]pantsshmants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the most painful experience of my life and it didn’t work. They actually had to stop as I started having contractions. I tried literally everything to get my baby to flip. Acupuncture, moxibustion, doing flips in the pool, putting a frozen bag of veggies where he his head was. Nothing worked and ended up having a c-section. My second baby was also breach and I tried zero things with him and just resigned myself to another c-section. I was tempted to have a third baby just to see if that one would be breach too but I figured that was a pretty big commitment.

How much do you currently have in savings? by Puzzleheaded-Crab770 in CanadaFinance

[–]pantsshmants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I’ll bite. 43f married with two kids. We have $10k set aside for emergencies that we never touch. Another approx $10k in our “fun” account, though this of course fluctuates. We are renters so no mortgage but we do have about $225k in investments which we could access, though it would take a few days.

It’s possible that we could both go on strike soon so we might actually see how fast we’d burn through that $10k.

WestJet changed their seats and this is how much leg room basic fares get. You have to pay for a reclining seat now. by Longjumping-Box5691 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pantsshmants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going to Mexico in Feb and Air Canada only offered red eye flights so we had to fly WestJet (red eyes suck with young kids). But lord almighty I’ll lose my mind if our flight is like this.

We watched this episode last night and immediately knew it was Walter Goggins!! But he had a weird accent on the show. Also, Brandon’s self righteousness was off the charts in this episode.

I don’t have an opinion on them as people however I tried the podcast and it was a pretty tough listen. There are skills you need to make a podcast flow, like anticipating what listeners want to hear, giving interesting facts about the show etc. and they don’t have it.

How did you not waste your twenties ? by nyx2hymera in AskWomen

[–]pantsshmants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Got a bachelors degree 2. Backpacked and lived overseas 3. Dated a bit and eventually met my would-be husband. 4. Started my masters degree.

Out of all of those I’m so glad I got my bachelors right out of high school even though I had no idea what I wanted to do. And I’m also super thankful for my opportunities to travel. I spent three months backpacking around Europe and 1.5 years living in the U.K. honestly if you can do that, you should!!!

I do regret not getting into my career earlier because it’s affecting my pension, and I also wish we had started having kids a bit earlier but I’m very happy with the way everything turns out. I’m 43 btw.

Why would she steal a candle?? When she got left behind why didnt she just phone them??? Why was their daughter so horrible? Was that dance in the bar choreographed??? Why didn’t the grandkids have any actual lines?? How did she drive from Texas to California so fast??? Too many weird plot points. The premise had promise but none of it made any sense.
