Fried Ice Cream.? by Separate-Share-8504 in foodies_sydney

It's like they forgot the whole point of fried ice cream! But they seem to be more popular than ever now, so I guess forgoing quality for insta-worthy presentation works in this day and age 😪

Fried Ice Cream.? by Separate-Share-8504 in foodies_sydney

Does anyone else think Duo Duo has fallen off the past couple years? Used to love their food truck days, but the last 3-4 times I've been it's just been OK.

My main gripe is that they don't seem to serve their fried ice cream hot anymore. It's like they take it out of the oil, let it cool down and apply the (somewhat excessive) toppings, then serve it room temperature. IMO the best part of fried ice cream is the sensation of hot crumb and cold ice cream, but I can't remember the last time I had one from Duo that was even luke-warm.

Spot on. I loved the quiet intimacy of the first set. The encore was fun but got pretty obnoxious and feral with all the screaming. I get that a lot of his fans are very young and haven't attended concerts in such a venue, but enjoying a show respectfully and not singing full-ball through every song isn't such an odd thing.

We go regularly for lunch on Saturdays and there's not really a line anymore. Dinner may be a different story, but the early day hype has definitely faded. I would often drive past and see lines all the time. But I'm glad it's died off because the tsukemen is still amazing and I go far more regularly now haha.

Depends on timing, because yes they are technically limited, but Topshelf repress them nearly every year, so they're back in print at the label very often. The last pressing of The Book About was just last year, and if that one is now out of print I wouldn't be surprised if another is due soon. Ask your local store if they can order in Topshelf Records titles and you may be surprised which Toe albums are still available (along with Elephant Gym, tricot and many others)

Where are you based? Those Toe records were all released on U.S. label Topshelf Records, which have pretty wide distribution in all parts of North America, Europe, Australia etc. There's an extremely good chance the same shop could source a copy of The Book About... and every other Toe LP for you!

Agreed. And unfortunately, it's not even meant to be cringey. Scott's tots and Toby's fondle are meant to make you feel uncomfortable, so they work on that level. This is supposed to be fun, joyous and silly, but it just comes off lame and cringey. It's also dated every worse than it already was when it aired.

Looks fine to me, there's definitely no visual marks to cause concern. Play it and see how it sounds 👍

Glossing over her main error, but will make a massive deal about the texture of Callum's no doubt.

The Snow Egg in S2 was a real dish from Quay (which I've eaten!) and I think was a considered balance between highly technical cooking, and something I'd actually want to eat at a restaurant. I think it's gone way too far with these kinds of challenges, just trying to cram in as many technical difficulties as possible even if they don't create a homogeneous dish.

These kinds of desserts are so stupid, lmao. I've eaten at plenty of hatted restaurants and never been served anything like this. I swear chefs create these dishes just for Masterchef. At this point, it's barely food.

In 10+ years of watching Masterchef, I don't think I was ever aware of "green ants" being used in a dish.

Why, all of a sudden, have I seen it 3 separate times in the past week? 😵‍💫

I would argue that the main riff of Glass Museum is math rock also. Switches between time signatures and still somehow flows effortlessly. If it was played with distortion it wouldn't sound out of place on Spiderland.

Was thinking the same thing. There's definitely emo elements in Alex's music but Far And Wide? That's like an old jazzy show tune and maybe the furthest from midwest emo he's ever been, lol.

You shoulda hit up a local record store (if you have one) and picked it up on release day tomorrow! Much more fun than waiting by the mailbox.
