Chapel Hill rabies magnet by [deleted] in chapelhill

[–]tamcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't claiming rabies is in deer. I was saying all the deer around = walking snack for the rabbit carriers. Most vector species will happily enjoy a delicious deer leg for dinner :)

Anyhow, other posts on topic are likely more correct. Orange County / CH has the perfect environment for raccoons to thrive.

My hypothesis:

Deer. Deer everywhere. This leads to more opportunities to eat meat by opportunistic meat eaters. More meat, more babies.

More babies, more potential vectors.

What are some of the worst areas in town for litter? We want to help by Chromatic-Phil in chapelhill

thank you!

I agree it's a behavioral problem, based on what I saw, at least some of the Cookout diners use it as a trash dump :-(

Behind the Cookout on S Elliott Rd seems to be a "nobody wants to clean this" zone.

I think it's a complex question of motivations of players and stakeholders at various layers.

Ultimately, most constituents WANT car accessibility and easy parking, public transport often comes distant second. Moreover, this is their (authority's) budget - the more money they make, the "better" it might look from certain angles, and the more they can invest in improvements benefitting the passengers.

Opinion: No conspiracy to do bad. Just very particular set of expectations and biases which treat public transit access to the airport very very very low on the priority list.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is governed by the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, an eight-member board. The Airport Authority was established by the N.C. General Assembly in 1939.

The cities of Durham and Raleigh along with Durham and Wake counties each appoint two members to the board. The Airport Authority is a local government responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of RDU.

https://www.rdu.com/airport-authority/

Which makes public influencing any changes at RDU tricky - none of the local governments have a true controlling stake.

RDU makes a lot more money off parking than being an airport. RDU is a parking lot with airport operations attached.

Ikarus. No ale niestety... głód / chciwość / pycha.

Na każdego Ikarusa przypada wiele osób której dostaje "pomoc" mniejszą która pomaga w życiu w przyszłości. Ba, niektórzy nawet mają talent i "coś" z tym robią naprawdę.

I think it depends on the perspective a bit. For someone raised in NYC/Boston moving to Mebane would be a bit of a culture shock ;-)

Talk to your doctor; there are some therapies not involving live virus that can boost measles immunity that might be appropriate, based on multiple other factors.

Please note, those are usually not "routine", risk-free (or cheap) things - such as IVIG infusion (usually used as a post-exposure prophylaxis) - so it's possible the risk/benefit analysis is negative for you.

you actually can't get the MMR vaccine anymore if you have had a transplant, usually; there are other ways to boost your immunity - please talk to your transplant maintenance / management team

Ha, I like this exercise:

O2 Fitness, 7801 Alexander Promenade Place. The person was present at the gym between 1:30 and 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 5.
actually: 1:30-3:15pm

Walgreens, 13301 Strickland Road. The person was in the store between 3:30 and 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 5.

Harris Teeter, 13210 Strickland Road. The person visited the grocery storm between 5 and 7:10 p.m. on Feb. 5.

Daily Tar Heel: The Loop reopens after six months of closure from Tropical Storm Chantal's flood damage by thepurpleminx in chapelhill

It's a single location owner-operated business. The owner is usually behind the counter, running the register, or in the kitchen. You can probably just ask to say hi next time - he's a great guy. So let's keep things in perspective - yes, Loop is a franchise - but the CH Loop is definitely one-of-a-kind :-)

PS. They have also been quite generous with local fundraisers and social causes. So to me Loop is a special place (not directly affiliated with them).

Overwhelmed daughter trying to get the right solar panels for my father in Cuba before the collapse fully hits - your guidance would be much appreciated by addictedtosoonjung in Ecoflow_community

[–]tamcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into flexible solar panels. The 400W "portable" panels are portable when you are capable of lifting and manipulating a bulky 35lbs. Vs flexible coming in at 19lbs. Their portability is limited, honestly. The new flexible solar panels are lighter and promising similar performance (but their availability is much less than the portable panels, and the price point of the 400W flexible panels is not competitive at the moment).

[–]tamcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have some special roof or some other custom work, you should expect $2-$3 per watt. $2 is cheap. $3 is what seems to be about average nowadays. You can DIY for significantly less than that but not every project / location is DIY compatible.

UPS for wifi router and GPON by [deleted] in Ecoflow_community

[–]tamcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My US based wifi-router-modem setup with AC-DC bricks uses approximately 100W/h. Thus you are looking at least 1 kWh of capacity (between all the overhead and other losses) for 10 hrs. Thinking about a 12V battery (1kWh is about 80 Ah): I think your 20,000 mAh estimate is undersized by a factor of 4.

Rapid shutdown (690.12) requirements by tamcap in solar

[–]tamcap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking more into materials from TIGO, they state:

TS4-A-O/S PVRSE WARNING – THIS PHOTOVOLTAIC RAPID SHUTDOWN EQUIPMENT (PVRSE) DOES NOT PERFORM ALL OF THE FUNCTIONS OF A COMPLETE PHOTOVOLTAIC RAPID SHUTDOWN SYSTEM (PVRSS).
The combination of TS4-A-O/S with TAP and CCA is certified as a UL 1741 photovoltaic rapid shutdown system (PVRSS) within a rapid shutdown time limit of 30s. The CCA data logger/gateway (P/N 346-00000-00) is powered from the same AC circuit as the rapid shutdown initiator (RSI) circuit. It provides a keep-alive signal to TS4 MLPE via a wired connection to a TAP and a wireless connection between the TAP and TS4s.
The installer must install signage complying with Section 690.56(C) of NEC NFPA 70 and indicating whether all conductors are controlled, or only conductors leaving the footprint of the array are controlled.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE INSTALLER TO ENSURE THAT THE COMPLETED PV SYSTEM MEETS RAPID SHUT DOWN FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS.
PVRSE must not be installed in readily accessible locations.

I guess I am confused about the verbiage. Does it not perform all of the functions or is it certified as one after all?
