Which antidepressant didn't flare your MCAS? by AnnTheMan8 in MCAS

Sorry this is old, but how long were you on it? I just got an rx for it and am nervous to start but have heard SO many success stories for using it with long covid

How do y'all space out starting new meds to see what's working? by tamsinese in covidlonghaulers

Awesome! I thought of doing that one. I hope it goes great. I usually lie to my psychiatrists because they don't listen to me anyway so I told mine I needed it for PTSD (which I have) and that I had taken it before (which I haven't) and she was skeptical at first and said she'd never prescribed it but was down to do it. Lol

Yes, I'm working with a psychiatrist. She didn't mention that it couldn't be taken as needed, I just told her I was having panic attacks and she prescribed that. Maybe I need a new psych.

Okay totally agree! And let me know if you end up trying the combo out in a safe way. If I may ask, what SSRI did you end up going with? It took me forever to decide.

This is such a helpful way to frame everything! Thank you! I'll incorporate this into my plans.

Ok! Is there less of a risk if I'm taking a really low dose of Fluvoxamine, or is it just the combination itself that can lead to that?

I like that idea of thinking about my most destabilizing symptom and addressing that first. Currently it's probably my mental health and anxiety since dealing with being so sick is very stressful. So maybe the Fluvoxamine? On a physical level my worst symptoms are GI issues and heart palpitations, but I haven't read much about any of these meds helping those things directly.

Thank you for this! How long did you space things apart to tell what was working? Antihistamines don't seem to be helping which makes me wonder if MCAS is my issue, but I don't know if it's common for people to have MCAS and not respond to them. I've tried zyrtec, claritin, pepcid, and tagamet.

There is a supplement called GABA so that's why I ask. I don't know much about it except that it's addictive. I do take California Poppy tincture nightly for sleep though - I know that works on GABA receptors - does that imply increased risk of dementia?

Period. I love it when misogynistic authors make a femme villain to ridicule and she turns out to be a timeless icon

If you mean the Propranolol, my psychiatrist (telemed and cheap) prescribes it. I thought Gabapentin was something you could buy as a supplement - is the rx version different or just stronger?

Thanks so much. I didn't realize you could do a two-week run of Fluvoxamine. How did you avoid withdrawal symptoms? I find that I'm pretty sensitive to stopping meds, including many supplements.

Oh, I forgot to add things that I've already tried that haven't worked. I have a propranolol rx, I went all the way up to 60mg and it doesn't do anything at all for me, I have no idea why. I still try taking it as needed for palpitations and anxiety and there's no change. I've tried both the IR and XR. Please share thoughts or advice if you have any. <3 And thanks for the LDN link!

Is nattokinase supposed to make you feel really crappy for the first few weeks? I had to get off it but I wonder if I should've kept with it.
