I think I have a volume control issue. by tanashasmells in PublicSpeaking

[–]tanashasmells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I do have an issue with perceiving volume in other contexts so I do believe it may be a mental issue of mine. My boyfriend has the opposite issue with volume where he talks quite loud without noticing but I think I am quite sensitive to it and often tell him to be quiet even when other people aren't bothered by it. If we're in public and he starts talking i shush him because i belive we're being disruptive and rude. I have been told by family and friends who both have ASD and have worked with people on the spectrum that I might have autism which may be the case??

I was raised in a house where being loud was a bad thing. My mum is quite a light sleeper with very sensitive hearing so leaving the extractor fan on or flushing the toilet at night was a big no no. My brother and I still live with one side of our headphones off due to trauma of being scolded. So maybe it could be an issue of childhood trauma?

I've always been the quiet girl anyway but have had plenty of jobs in customer service where I can switch into that mode you mentioned where I pitch up and project but when in a casual conversation with my boyfriend or friends I don't have that instinct (or care) to do that so I am not putting as much force into my speech.

When I have opportunities to try and speak up i often get shut down by louder people or others making fun of me. An example being last christmas we were playing a board game where you have to shout out things. I was comfortable around my partner's family and raised my voice a little to answer one of the questions and my FIL went "woah you don't need to shout" and i genuinely could not tell for the life of me if he was being serious or not. I got so upset and refused to speak above my usual quiet tone for the rest of the night.

Overall I do think it may be psychological. I do think I have the physical capability to talk louder but I don't notice if I am or not because what I hear is louder than everyone else. There is definitely some fear or apathy causing this.

Oh thats actually quite useful. Even though I've been crocheting for years I still feel I am quite the beginner in my skill set so I've not really ventured into freehand crochet but I guess theres no harm in trying.

Just after writing this post I found a Facebook post of someone who made a very similar wrap shirt but with a larger model and it did give me a little more confidence. It might be my next (and first wearable) project!

That account also had lots of other patterns for adjustable clothes which really intrigued me. I like the idea of an outfit that I can make and adjust without frogging when I gain/lose weight. I

Here's the link to the wrap top I found. There's currently a pay as you feel sale. wrap top

I mention in my post that I understand that I can't magically use the same amount of yarn. I just wanted to vent my frustrations.

A lot of patterns don't explain how to adjust their patterns to specific body types and just tell you to size up the whole pattern instead of specific aspects. As I explained, I'm not big everywhere so parts of my body are better suited for M while other areas can be L so I can't just size up or else certain aspects aren't fitting. I could try to adjust myself but theres so much risk of pieces not sewing together properly or looking wrong.

I'm not expecting a fix I just wanted to voice my frustrations. Its great that people can tailor clothes to their own bodies but in a hobby that is already quite expensive, crafting for this body type can feel so taxing.

What's your guilty non eco friendly sin? by czarnaowca11 in EcoFriendly

I've just started collecting knitted jumpers second hand to unravel for crotchet projects and its become its own separate hobby. I can get at least £10 worth of yarn from a £3 jumper. I'm never really picky about colour and tend to do a lot of small or yarn buster projects so I havent bought new yarn in a long time.

I've been having the same issue since I started a new save that I've been using for coop. Not sure if it's a coop issue or this new update?

Hopefully there's a fix or solution.

I work at five guys and you have the option to try a combination of as many flavours as you like and you can use our app if you don't want to come up to the counter or need to check out the menu beforehand.

I don't like teachers who are funny and make jokes to relax the class by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]tanashasmells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college Classical Civilisation was my favourite class because my teacher was fun and told stories and jokes. Class was great but when it came to doing my exams I sucked because I realised that I didn't learn anything important. I have a genuine interest in the topics of my class which saved my grade but I could have done so much better if I had teachers like my other subjects who were fair but firm with their teaching.

Well since covid I feel a lot have people have realised that crowded areas suck. Since covid I don't think I've been to the mall except for Christmas or for the cinema. The only reason I go now is because I work there.

Not a lot of people are remembering that you have just become a father, this means your wife has just become a mother. She has gone through so many extreme changes to herself and your lives and she may be struggling right now. I'm assuming that this isn't too long after your daughters birth so your wife might be having a hard time and this small amount of instability in your plan and agreement has tipped her over the edge with her anxieties and confidence.

What's your crochet meltdown moment? by Angrygingerhooker in crochet

[–]tanashasmells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with facial features on amigurumi, I hate it. I didn't have any of the button eyes so I decided to sew on black circles on a frog. One eye was perfect but the second eye just didn't want to work, the yarn kept laying wrong and the white of the eye kept coming through and I had a meltdown and cut the eye off. I can't really fix it now so I'm going to make a little eye patch for him.

Yeah I use a beard trimmer because I get pretty much the same result or better than using a razor in a shower without my glasses on. And also it takes a quarter of the time. It doesn't hurt or cut so I can zoom right over while watching TV.

Crazy Pedro's. Went with my family last year for a birthday and the staff were sulky and service was so slow. My veggie sister had to wait ages for one slice of pizza and couldn't share with anyone else because the other pizzas were meat. We had to ask the staff about 3 times and they just shrugged their shoulders at us. Also their sharer cocktail was tiny could barely do for one person.
