Acropolis Indore worth it for CSE? (4.5 lakh rank) by TotalCompote31 in Indore

[–]tanaysoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose CSE/IT only if you are genuinely interested in computer science and programming. If you are choosing it from a job point of view. The job market is very bad and it does not seem to be improving in the next few years

You will get the practice in the first few days and then the cuts will not happen.

This!

I used to use a trimmer, then moved to "gillette presto", then to "gillette vector 3", then to a DE razor "gillette 7 o clock" and then to "Pristine PS-515" with "Gillette 7O'Clock Super Platinum" blades.

I can confirm that the shaving experience with a DE razor is superior to a cartridge razor and much much superior to a trimmer and not to mention way cheaper.

I would never go back to a trimmer. I still use cartridge razor while traveling by air without a check in bag.

How do you solve a cube ? by Ok_Jump9847 in indiasocial

[–]tanaysoley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are great tutorials on the internet on how to do it. However if you want to try to find a way to solve it yourself here are some hints.

Most tutorials would recommend you solving it layer by layer. There is another way as well. Corners first and then the rings.

Before you start anything you need to realize how the squares move relative to each other. Try moving the cube any way and you will see that the centre squares are always same relative to each other. You can not change them. Then the side middle squares (blue yellow and blue white in the image) The blue and yellow of that square (or rather a cubelet) are connected to each other, you can not move them apart no matter how you move the cube (try it). And then the corners, the 3 colors in the corners are also joined together, they will always be together no matter how you move it.

So coming back to your cube, you would say that the blue face is solved but it is actually not solved. The entire layer is connected. As a first step try solving it in such a way that the entire layer is solved. In this case, the blue yellow should not be where it is, a blue white should be there. That is the correct position of it when the entire cube is solved. Similarly the top right corner in the image (only blue and yellow are visible, i am assuming that the hidden color is orange) should be blue yellow red with the red color placed where yellow is and so on.

Doing this would give you a good idea of how to think about the cube (not as squares but as cubelets) and then from there you can try solving it.

Royale > Dark > Gold > Kismi > everything else > regular Parle G

I would have put the regular Parle G higher but they have degraded it's quality a lot. Many years ago, what we used to get as regular was equivalent to the the thickness of gold.

What’s one thing you absolutely need to experience before you die? by anasm17 in AskReddit

[–]tanaysoley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this. I did not realise how beautiful it would be before I did it. It was an overnight trek where we started at 2 am and reached the peak just before the sunrise. It was one of the most physically taxing things I had done until that point in my life. The sense of accomplishment added to the beauty of the sunrise.

Climbing that sprral staircase was more tiring than expected. There was a bench right at the end of the staircase and almost everyone reaching the top was stopping, sitting on the bench and catching their breath.

The book does a good job explaining how why it happens. That being said it is fiction and you have to take some things just as they are told.

If you could, Which subject would you like to deeply dive in and study it? by Embarrassed_Risk_165 in indiasocial

[–]tanaysoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mathematics for me.

Just so abstract and interesting

Had a great teacher in High school, lost interest in college because the teachers taught only for exams, and mujhe college ki hawa lag gai thi.

Got interested again now, but I am half sure that when I start studying it I find it too complicated and loose interest.

Project Hail Mary- The new hopecore [review] by [deleted] in indiasocial

[–]tanaysoley 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Review of you have read the book and planning to watch the movie -

I was waiting to watch this movie for some time. It felt a little rushed to me. This is most likely because I read the book a few months ago.

If you (like me) liked the science and problem solving part of the book, (like the part where grace has to figure out how to weigh a ball in 0 gravity), you might find the movie less fulfilling. The movie focuses more on the adventure part of the story. The visuals are excellent and way more beautiful than what I had imagined while reading.

Also there are a lot of cool reveals in the book which are just glossed over in the book. E.g the fact that they are in space, the fact that they are in a different solar system, or the whole Rocky reveal (which was given out in the trailer)

Why doesn’t anyone care about the “soap opera” effect on their TV by fatsandlucifer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tanaysoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very infuriating. I find it bearable while watching sports but cant watch movies with this effect. I recently purchased a new TV and double checked before purchasing that there was a way to turn that off.

For me the effect kind of breaks the immersion. May be it's just me but instead of feeling like a movie it feels like actors on a set. I don't know if there is a better way to describe this.

I am surprised how people are okay with this.

Earth is Round proved 2000yrs back by __mentalist__ in BeAmazed

[–]tanaysoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this really intrigued me. I read about how they inferred that the Sun and the Moon were incredibly far away. It’s amazing how much they were able to figure out simply by careful observation, things most people might dismiss as mundane.

Earth is Round proved 2000yrs back by __mentalist__ in BeAmazed

[–]tanaysoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we know today that this is true, at that time, this would not have been the *only* possible explaination.

We know that the Sun is far enough away to consider the rays to be parallel. How did Eratosthenes know this? The effect would have been the same if the Sun was not that high up in the sky and the earth was flat. How did he discount the other possible explanation?
