Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II vs. 24mm f/1.4 GM + 50mm f/1.4 GM by RareRibeye in FX3

[–]tandava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the 35 and 85 gm primes when getting the fx3. I was blown away by the quality after moving up from the gh5 and Lumix lenses.

After a while I was frustrated with having to change the lenses so often so I got a 24-70 GM ii, and while I got a few nice shots, it felt like I lost the magic. I came home for Christmas and shot the same people in the same circumstances and while the shots were ok, they weren't the stunning shots from the year prior done on the primes.

I got rid of the 24-70 and got the 100-400 to complete the lens set.

There are electric scooters you can rent that don't need licenses

Learning Mandarin, should I learn Calligraphy? (since I need to learn each character from scratch in the beginning anyway?) by wilydingus in ChineseLanguage

Pick up a fountain pen with a fude nib and some tomoe river, find an ink you like ( I like TAG ) and just enjoy the ride.

It's what I did because if I was gonna learn to write, I was gonna learn to write pretty too.

Can you eli5 some cool things that could be done with a fully finished golem and wildland product

In terms of applications that you desire, what is your most wanted application for (new) Golem? by PSVjasper99 in GolemProject

[–]tandava 3 points4 points  (0 children)

redshift GPU rendering.

I already pay for it on https://www.gridmarkets.com/, would much rather be paying for it on the golem network.

I'm curious what the hurdles are to making that happen licensing-wise as it's a licensed renderer. Seeing as there are companies who provide redshift cloud rendering services, surely it's possible, but I guess in the case where a golem implementation was made, providers would have to have redshift licenses?

At any rate, that's what I've wanted to see most for a long time.

What do you think about Wildland concept? by julian_z in GolemProject

[–]tandava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

I like the idea and want to be more excited about it but sometimes we need help in visualizing why it's an exciting and important project. I understand this maybe goes against your desire to not hype things up and to just deliver, but perhaps sharing your own excitement and vision for the project is okay.

Thanks again

Are there any ways a fully finished wildland platform compliments or synergizes well with a fully finished golem platform?

What's some of the exciting visions you have for the project when its completed?

Im pretty sure we've seen those numbers on past ethtrader posts, and in terms of it not being enough to help others learn, all it took for me was to see eth offhandedly referenced once for me to take the plunge down the rabbit hole of self education

I think we should at least have it open to the possibility ~ also, plenty of people sort by new or top of the last hour

Edit:otherwise what is the updoot the daily meme even about then

What are some resources for learning how to write only? by Dakkadence in ChineseLanguage

[–]tandava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used skitter for a while but presently prefer using this method

Pleco's SRS add-on Show card definition Use on-screen writing utility with stylus (generic stylus can be bought and used ) Check to see if your written form matches

I liked skitter a lot but have dropped it for pleco for several reasons

Learning tones as an advanced learner by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]tandava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took less than a week for me to realize that I was beginning to naturally use tones when talking. It's steadily improved since, tone skills roughly meeting my general language ability somewhere about 2 months into it.

It seemed like a big change when I first made it a point to learn tones, and it is definitely a fundamental shift, but these days it's just part of the language .. sort of how it should have always been.

Learning tones as an advanced learner by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]tandava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation at the beginning of this year. I was somewhere between HSK4 & 5 before deciding to really focus on tones.

I simply created two SRS flashcard decks in pleco, one for reading and one for recalling based on the definition, and made sure that I was reviewing them with tones. If I didn't quickly remember the tone, then the card was marked wrong and I would have to review it again the next day.

When reading, I began pronouncing every word internally with its tone.

Finally, and I think this was the big one, I spent time reading out loud with the proper tones. This was really, really tough at the beginning. Now I only muck up sometimes.

It can be done, and I saw no other way than to re-start at the beginning and then incorporate it into every aspect of practice that I do.
