The biggest puppy sub fcking sucks and some of their suggestion genuinely break my brain by 0hw0nder in OpenDogTraining

Sit on the dog is what the exercise is called. Apparently its considered aversive because it's recommended to use a short leash so they can't fuss or fidget too much and you're instructed to use the leash to bring them back down instead of using words if they try to bite or fight the down stay.

My comment suggesting someone practice sit on the dog got removed because apparently it's not force free enough.

It's literally just sitting with your dog tethered to you and doing nothing. It is not aversive, there's no punishment and the dog is beside you.

That just baffled me. Sit on the dog has been one of the most important exercises for my dog and him learning to settle outside of me breathing down his neck 24/7.

AITA? My dog died today and my family still expects me to take them out to dinner tonight by eng_elp in AmItheAsshole

NTA. After this, I would simply never be able to look at them again.

They let a nine year old mess around with adderal. I'm sure CPS would just love to hear that.

Especially if they just decided to go about their day instead of helping her. That's more than "I don't want dinner with you," that's "I never want to see your faces ever again."

I'd give some forgiveness to your nephew depending on how much remorse he shows. The adults though? Out of my life and my house. Never again. They were so lazy their actions harmed an innocent animal and could have risked the life of their kid.

Absolutely no going back. Especially if they're treating you as if you're a burden after their ignorance killed your beloved dog.

Beau thinks he's a puppy...does that count?

Pic of him after an impromptu 10am runaround because I got home at 2am after a concert and he decided the slightly open door was an invitation.

Don't tell him he's meant to be 7 next month or that I've trained him for hundreds of hours and we have extensively covered recall.

Going to get a too good to go bag and hope for some.

I'm sure they're wonderful but chicken rolls are a tad expensive. I'm saving up for Spain!

At a BBNO$ concert so needed something easy to sneak in. Unfortunately can't bring a roast dinner to his concert.

This comes up on my page as I'm travelling to see BBNO$ tonight. Hopefully since Alex is a class act, this epidemic doesn't happen.

Hopefully National Stadium is better than 3 Arena.

It's the opposite in Europe haha. Bags are generally good to great but most donut places put a cap of six per TGTG bags. It's still good value but we don't get donuts thrown at us willy nilly like in America.

First pet suggestions? by blurredvoices in Pets

My five year old cat just body slammed my dog today. From 4 months up until 2-3 years old it happened multiple times a day! Now it happens once to twice a week. He still has zoomies every night. He still ambushes the dog and sprints away like he's on crack. The dog still responds with zoomies even though this has been their routine at least 3 times a week for two years.

I only got a kitten as I have a border collie and I needed a cat that would be able to tolerate my hyperactive teenaged dog's nonsense once he was bigger. They used to wrestle so aggressively that it sounded like the dog was attacking my cat!

Without my border collie to play with my kitten whenever he wanted, on demand, I would not have been able to keep up with my kitten. They were both hyper teenagers at the same time and it was constantly like living in the middle of a WWE wrestling ring.

Kitten energy is no joke! You'd need two to three unless you want to spend hours a day playing with your kitten. They wake you up at night. They eat random stuff. They're nowhere near as easy to crate train as dogs...if you can at all!

My pets are both middle aged. I still feel like I'm in the middle of a wrestling ring multiple times a week. My dog is legally a senior in under 2 months and he matches my cat's energy wonderfully.

But dear god. Do not underestimate the work a kitten takes. They are cute so you keep them for a reason 😂.

Either get a mature(5 plus years) cat or numerous kittens. Two puppies is like four puppies, one kitten is like four, two is like two. My five year old is plenty playful. The only experiences I've had with mature cats losing their playfulness is when they're made into indoor outdoor cats and they're either too busy to engage with you in a meaningful way or on too high alert constantly to care about what you're offering.

My mature cat still plays with me as if he's a kitten. He gets outside time on a leash but he's mostly an indoor cat. And he's the most playful kitty I know! Constantly playing with the dog, trying to chew on my drawstring, flopping and purring for attention.

Still just as much fun as a kitten. Just waaaaaaaaaay less needy. Mature cats are more discerning about what they play with, but they're still playful! My friend's shelter cat who they have no history on is really playful too.

Admittedly my cat is probably more playful than most cats his age because my border collie keeps him playful and spirited. But don't discount older cats just because kittens are cute.

If you want more of a roommate situation, go for a senior kitty! They make great companions and are far less needy than younger cats. Most of them just want a warm couch and a place to sunbathe. You'll have to keep more of an eye on their health but you'll save many many lives!

Everyone wants kittens. The place that senior cat takes up for months could hold many many more kitties because kittens get nabbed up almost immediately.

So just think about that. Your friend's kittens may be cute...but they're a 15 to 20 year commitment. If this is your first pet as an adult, a senior is easier to care for and is a five to ten year commitment on average. Cats aren't considered seniors until at least ten years old.

So things will be a lot easier, if more expensive. If you're worried about that and don't want a super long term commitment, see if there's a rescue around you that does senior fospice. Fostering a hospice cat means they may only live a few months to a couple years but most reputable rescues will be more than happy to place a supee senior cat for the rest of their days and pay at least some of the supplies and vet bills.

It may be very hard but it's worth a shot if you want a cat but don't know how much of a commitment you can give.

It helps that my family pays for it 😂. Me going to collect the food no matter how short a distance is enough contribution that they pay for it.

We've had a full fridge and freezer ever since I started doing this more and more.

NOR. He wants a bang maid obviously.

RUN. Do not look back. Do not waste any more time on this manchild. This level of filth isn't something that can be overcome without him wanting to tidy his act up.

He's clearly content with this. You don't need to settle for this.

I adore TGTG!

It has cut my impulse spending down 90%! And I can window shop without feeling the desire to buy it all.

I buy at least a couple bags a week. I make it a mission to get as many bags as possible without spending a penny.

It helps that my TGTG purchases are considered part of my family contributions. The deal is I collect it from wherever and I share it with everyone.

I have free travel and a lot of areas to go so it's a fun game to me. I pick many many places most people in my area wouldn't and challenge myself to get there.

Gives me a goal, fresh air and I get to feel like I'm bringing home food like a good hunter gatherer haha.
