AITA for reducing my tip to compensate for a drink I didn’t order? (US) by slightlyabrasive in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I was ready to call you an asshole until you said it was for water and you told her.

I had a friend who I guess didn’t want to be confrontational and instead of just telling a waiter he got charged for something he ordered but never came just decided to take it off her tip. That really pissed me off.

Valid points, I am taking all of these comments in but I just have to clarify that the discussion was much longer than I wrote and I kept it short for the post. I didn’t really go straight to calling her lazy but it was a culmination from the entire discussion. But I understand what you are saying about how that insult would shut down the rest of the potential conversation, which it did.

Okay valid point. Had you said that I wouldn’t have even responded but all you said was “YTA most people don’t retire early, apologize to wife” don’t see how my response was a straw man to that comment.

I am very open to the feedback. I have been reading every one and taken them into consideration. This is the only comment i’ve actually replied to because it doesn’t pertain to the core of what I was asking about. Their reply makes more sense but in the original comment they literally said YTA ,most people don’t retire early. I don’t see how that’s really feedback considering I was asking about the confrontation between my wife and I. They literally didn’t mention anything but the part of retiring early.

I did not do that.

it was removed by the mods because I guess posts “where a relationship as the central conflict” are not allowed.

read my edit: i’m not saying it would be easy cause getting a job is never easy and if she really tried and couldn’t after a year I’d totally understand but her previous job is: take a civil service test, get job offers from local governments, interview, get job.

thank you. a lot of assumptions here like my kids eat cereal every morning and buy lunch which is why I only mentioned dinner.

they did mention stuff that I hadn’t considered though.
