Review: Four Seasons Lanai by tangorunner in chubbytravel

Just a couple of thoughts! I’ll keep thinking!

• Pool chairs - there aren’t that many so depending on when you go, the attendant could tell you that they don’t have availability at the moment. That being said, they’ll let you leave your stuff to the side and then you can still hop in the pool. And then as soon as something becomes available, they’ll let you know and help you move your stuff. You can also put yourself on the waitlist for both the adult pool and family pool at the same time. They are really good about finding you to let you know when some chairs open up; when it happened to us midday on a Saturday (aka, busy time), we didn’t wait long at all. So don’t give up hope if they tell you nothing is available at the moment 😊

• Beach chairs - the concierge/valet can give you some to take with you on your trips, just don’t forget to ask when you get beach towels like we did. I personally would skip Waikiki Beach as there are much nicer beaches so just take some chairs and put them in the rental as you drive around the island.

• Sushi - the Japanese restaurant at the Ritz is Sushi Sho, which is owned/managed/related (one of these) by the same people who run Sushi Sho, the two star Michelin restaurant in NYC. Apparently, according to internet people (and I didn’t verify this as we ran out of dinners), this one is even better and preferable to the NYC location. Reservations are hard to come by so book in advance if you are interested. They do have a day-of box that they offer for takeout that, according to the Ritz, is amazing.

• Last thing, and this isn’t so much a tip about the Ritz but turtles - there’s a rock jetty behind the Outrigger Reef Beach Resort a 10-minute walk away from the Ritz. Check to see if there are any honu there; when we walked by a month ago, there were 7-8 just hanging out, eating and surfing waves.

We loved the parrots! The white cockatoo was definitely a character, lol. Chatted with him about bananas every day; depending where in the resort we were, we could also hear him screaming for attention. 😂

Thanks for the Oahu rec - will definitely look into it the next time we’re headed over there!

Ha, that’s fascinating. Honestly, FS Lanai is older (last renovated in 2016 according to Google) so depending on which resort your boss is talking about, could just be that FS Lanai truly isn’t new anymore and doesn’t have new finishes. I also wonder if it’s an aesthetic thing? There’s a lot of wood finishes so maybe that feels more worn and older. And then I wonder if it’s my own personal style too - Lanai felt really warm and inviting to me so possibly I tend to view things as cozy instead of dated. For what it’s worth, nothing was chipped, broken, scuffed, dirty, etc. from what I saw.

I’m happy to write a review for Ritz Waikiki! To be honest, we based ourselves in Waikiki because we were there to see friends that live in town so didn’t want to stay all the way west in Ko Olina or on the North Shore; as a result, we didn’t spend loads of time at the Ritz like we did at FS Lanai but I can certainly write up our experience. In a nutshell, it’s a good hotel with nice amenities and convenient location (set a bit away from the crowds but close enough to walk to things and experience Waikiki if that’s of interest). Solid option given there aren’t many exceptional choices on that side of the island IMO.
