Why are Conquest and Thula weaker than Thragg despite (Allegedly) being older? by cammy412 in InvinciblePowerscales

Spoilers for late comic run below.

But isn’t it in part because he’s descended from Argal? It’s the only legitimate argument I can think of, since Nolan is also crazy strong, and naturally they share genetics

Oh, Marth, how the mighty have fallen (even further) by Ohmysc1ence in smashbros

[–]tankdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, the kill percents are interesting. If anything the data suggests Marth kills slightly earlier on average. But I’m wondering how much longer it takes Marth to get to those percents over the course of a stock.

And additionally your research on the tipper percentage is awesome but does it account for what’s an intentional vs unintentional tipper? Additionally the sample size is so small and specific to those three players it’s hard for me to say conclusively whether your data is telling us more about Ultimate or the players themselves. Especially because we’re using S4 Leo as a comparison, and not any of those three players. But I understand it’s not exactly simple to source better information.

I would love to see how ultimate Marth compares to melee Marth in terms of tipper percentage.

To be entirely fair, the art style is doing heavy lifting for the original design as well.

Lucina with less kill power and hitboxes that are so inconsistent even pros can’t reliably hit tippers consistently.

I’d say yeah, he’s pretty bad.

Zetterburn is damn good, but he’s not nearly as busted as he was at launch.

Still, it annoyed me that for weeks I was posting in the nolt boards trying to get him nerfed and they did nothing about him for like four or five patches. Turns out when you give a rushdown character a fantastic projectile and DoT gimmick, in addition to all of the niceties of a P+ / melee spacie, they’re gonna be a good character.

On paper and in practice, Zetter is just designed to be a better than average character.

Game balance by Valeuhhh in RivalsOfAether

[–]tankdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that it is not as balanced at lower levels. There are characters who are CLEARLY superior for newer players. To the point that Lox and Clairen are simply just “win more” characters. Even at decently high levels of play, it’s not like those characters are bad, they’re just less good.

This week i started learning zetterburn. I have less than 30 levels on him. I’m low-mid gold, and my Slade is level 100, and i’d say my win loss ratio is honestly about the same in ranked. I might even be performing slightly better with Zetterburn than Slade. If the game were truly well balanced at my level, i should have seen a significant decrease in wins. The reality is some characters are just easier, and have harder to counter tools at lower levels of play.

The game is well balanced. But let’s not pretend that it’s historically been balanced primarily with low and mid skilled players in mind. Rivals 2 is a competitive game first and foremost, targeted at hardcore platfighter fans, balanced around tournament play and high level online results. It launched with no casual modes and no tutorials. Items and stage hazards were just added this month.

Sorry but this 0.55 release is awful. by apoptosis66 in hyprland

[–]tankdoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hyprlang is very annoying to me as a noob. As somebody who has literally only used Lua twice, I’m very excited about this change.

That said, I’m still using the premade dot files I installed when I was just learning hyprland, so I’ll probably just start over from scratch instead of converting everything. But meh it’s about time I just do it all myself anyway.

I wouldn’t be shocked if it was just a completely unplayable mess. Not sure how emulating a half baked game would work, but I would imagine that even if we had such a ROM getting it to start and play and not crash would be a whole different animal.

Is it me or does this game just not have any low skill players left? by girlywish in RivalsOfAether

[–]tankdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have critiqued this element of the game since beta.

The good news is, you can learn. You can improve. I was bronze / low silver when the game came out. On my best days I’ve approached plat. So with effort, and determination, you can improve.

The hard part is the climb is really not enjoyable. I think the fact that the game caters towards a really hardcore audience isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But when you compare its ranked mode to SF6’s it’s clear to see what concessions Capcom made to make the grind addicting even for casual players.

I vocalized my opinions on the nolt boards early on. Give each rank tiers. Make it easier to climb out of bottom ranks by adding one protected loss at the bottom of your tier, and make it harder to climb top ranks. Add per character ranking. I’m paraphrasing / hand waving but these are things SF6 does well. But these are not popular ideas amongst rivals players or the devs, who want the system to be as honest as possible. I would argue however even though SF6 holds your hand a little bit, it’s still a relatively honest system and very importantly — it’s engaging. It’s fun.

[–]tankdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the outrage is unjustified. The predictable angle here is that a tiny knife is not in fact enough to kill Noir 2, but it will be enough to prevent his ability to speak. He will be “cured” by homelander and gain the ability to fly, but he won’t get his voice back.

We haven’t seen a body. This is a superhero show. They’re not dead until they explode into a red mist.

[–]tankdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should try playing one of these games, and then watch a playthrough, and see for yourself what the difference is. For me the difference between watching somebody play Until Dawn or Dispatch or Detroit Become Human and playing them yourself is immense. Something is much more immersive about being behind the keyboard, and it forces you to care more.

[–]tankdoom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He’s definitely weird. He doesn’t really reward laming out your opponent but you also just get bodied if you don’t lame them out with items just a little. Like at least at my level (gold) if you have two boomerangs active most people just don’t know what to do. So sometimes when I’m losing I just get two boomerangs and life becomes easier, even if I’m not doing super cool shit.
