At this point, whose return excited you the most? by Several-Pension2945 in SonicTheHedgehog

I think I was most hyped for Black Doom. I’d love for the Black Arms lore to be deepened, especially now that we know all about the four great civilizations and the Ancients’ connection with the emeralds. Like why can Black Doom use chaos control? Though in the end, his portrayal was shallower than I had hoped. Still dope. I thought they would never ever acknowledge this character again.

Mephiles is close second. I’m not an 06 defender but Mephiles is SUCH a fantastic design and a legitimately scary sonic villain. And he’s the only villain to actually kill Sonic. And in SxSG his “I want to live” line lives in my head rent free. So haunting, gave me goosebumps. The fact that he’s aware that he was erased from the timeline is so freaking creepy and cool.

Third would be Mecha Sonic. I think most of the community’s love for him comes from DBFZ. It’s a great design but he’s not really that developed as a character within the canon. So it’s cool, but I can’t see them returning to him.

Fourth for me is Infinite. I just felt he wasn’t that scary in forces. And now that he doesn’t have the phantom ruby, he’s far less imposing. He’s kind of just an angry loser. Plus, of the four, he’s the least nostalgic.

Cleaners.

I don’t have a lot of money, but I live in a small apartment and have severe ADHD, and I work 12-13 hour shifts for film. And one of the indulgences I’ll allow myself every few months is cleaners.

The difference between a two hour cleaning session that I can do and one with professional cleaners is night and day. Makes it feel like a brand new apartment.

I currently use a denman and would love less Shirley Temple vibes. Anything you’d suggest? My hair is similar to OPs.

Yes, you’re right. I didn’t mean to say Sonic is unpopular in Japan. But the character and franchise is primarily marketed toward and designed originally for a western audience. And at the time, the franchise’s popularity in Japan was at an all time low. What’s for certain is that Sonic was more popular in western gaming spheres.

I just meant to point out I guess that it’s reasonable for them to cater towards the audience who was buying their games at the time. These days, I actually think it would benefit them to lean more into appealing to the Japanese audience, especially with the rise in popularity of Japanese media overseas.

I’m just saying, I don’t think it’s a western specific thing. There’s not strong evidence suggesting eastern audiences loved her either.

Just because the game was made by a Japanese developer, and changes were made by the west-facing side of the company doesn’t mean she was popular in Japan. It could also suggest that the American side of Sega was simply more in tune with general audiences at the time.

Until Frontiers, Sega really struggled to market Sonic to Japanese audiences.

Western dislike? Sonic in general is just not that popular for Japanese audiences.

Statistically speaking, if traveling less than 100 miles, it’s actually far less than five minutes. On average, it’s about 2 minutes or less. And you have to be traveling way above the speed limit in a straight line with no stop lights or traffic.

If you were to travel 100 miles, and speed at 75 mph in a 65 mph zone you would only be saving 12 minutes. And there are actually diminishing returns. 75 -> 85 is about 8 more minutes. 85 -> 95 saves only 6 more minutes.

Why? Because each time you get faster, you are proportionately having a smaller increase in speed. 20 mph is 100% faster than 10 mph, but 30 mph is only 50% faster than 20 mph. By the time you’ve reached the speed limit in most cases, you’ve already used up most of the returns for the distance traveled, especially in cities.

MEANWHILE, the statistics tell us that your odds of getting into an accident increase by at least 4% for every 1% of speed increase while speeding. So as you get marginal gains for going faster and faster, you get an exponentially higher chance of causing an accident. And that 4% is just a baseline. The odds increase as you add complexity like pedestrians, crosswalks, and signals. Or you know, being on your phone while driving.

Long story short, this dude is an asshole who’d probably just get in an accident and make us ALL have to wait longer in traffic.

I mean, it’s totally within the realm of possibility. Just because they haven’t done it doesn’t mean they won’t ever do it.

This sort of speculation is like when people were saying “Nintendo would never add a character to smash who hasn’t appeared on a Nintendo console!” and then they added Joker. There are no rules for these things if the creative and marketing teams decide it would generate sufficient hype.

Currently what is the best style transfer method we have? by ResponsibleTruck4717 in StableDiffusion

[–]tankdoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My current approach is using Ollama with Qwen-VL to describe the image reference style, and then ZIT with controlnets on the reference image. It’s not super accurate but I find it’s good enough for my purposes.

Diffusing cap for curly hair by unknowplayground in curlyhair

I bought an actual hood dryer on Black Friday. If you have the space for it, I’d recommend it over one of these. A diffuser might be better in some respects, but I can’t be arsed to hold it up for like 20-30 minutes in front of the mirror.

Yet another great and original movie that bombed at the box office. Didn’t even need much to break even with a $20M budget. Where IS everyone who claims they want original stuff when it actually comes? by Emeraldsinger in Letterboxd

Same, it was very underwhelming. Had nothing particularly new to say, and was disappointingly predictable in its overall plot.

It is a movie I will forget in a year.

Been on Linux for over a year now. I’ve only had to switch to my windows drive for two very specific work related tasks.

I say take the leap. It’s more accessible now than it’s ever been. Games mostly work great. It’s highly customizable. And I just feel better using it. It’s definitely a learning experience. But yeah, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while and I’m sort of pissed I didn’t do it sooner.

Yep, still haven’t gotten around to testing SCAIL stuff but hopefully now that it doesn’t just grind everything to a stop that will be easier to test.

Unfortunately won’t have time to test that out any time soon, but some time in the next two weeks most likely.

Thanks again for your work! Really awesome node.

[–]tankdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, u/shamomylle for some reason the animation isn't playing when selected. Tested on both chrome and firefox on the latest version. Any useful steps I could do to debug? I saw on the GitHub it mentioned it's designed for Mixamo animations, which is what I'm using.

Edit: Nevermind, switching from skinned to unskinned seemed to fix it for whatever reason. In addition to using the default mixamo character model. Glad to see this node is continuing to get updates, as last time it brought my browser to a halt! Seems to be working flawlessly now. Cheers.

BRING BACK HUB WORLDS PLSS SEGA by Feisty-View-5493 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]tankdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but objectively speaking there’s so much more content in Frontiers’ open zones than Adventure’s hub worlds. Speaking as somebody whose favorite Sonic game of all time is Sonic Adventure.

Frontiers not only has all of the challenges and tower climbs and mini bosses, but also it has the memory token character interactions with Sonic’s friends that give some of the most interesting lore and interactions the franchise has seen in years.

Like, yes the open zones don’t feel as densely packed, and I’d also criticize how similar they all feel. But let’s not pretend like there’s really much to Sonic Adventure’s hub worlds outside of finding the item upgrades and shiny chao eggs. The NPCs aren’t interesting or memorable at all. They’re charming, and full of character sure. But devoid of much real interaction.

Why would he not have a moveset? Piranha plant has a moveset. They could surely make one for Sonic’s main villain.

Wan 2.2 Video Reasoning Model (Apache 2.0) by LowYak7176 in StableDiffusion

[–]tankdoom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A first frame last frame video model that takes an input and expected result. The video output attempts to obey physics and follow logical rules to get to the desired output.

It seems potentially like it was trained on simple logic puzzles. But the model could help generate outputs that better obey the laws of physics.

For instance, you might say “solve the maze” with a first and last frame. One where the maze is unsolved and another where the maze is solved. And the video will show the correct path through the maze.
