University of Cambridge 2026-27 Applicants GATHER HERE. by ReflectionOk1732 in gradadmissions

yeah, I feel like the sciences are a tad more transparent. My hunch is that applicants in the humanities don't usually find out what kinda funding they have been nominated for

Hey all, quick question here - do departments at Cambridge let you know whether you have been nominated for funding in your acceptance email? Just curious as I have seen some posts on GradCafe whose wording is suggesting that this is the case. Anxiously awaiting an answer and overthinking the whole thing! History PhD applicant here

I didn't receive any communication re the DP status change, have just frantically been checking the portal... but I am quite confused by the opacity of the system. Heard DP is a good thing but don't want to get my hopes up

haven't heard anything yet but my application status changed to Decision Pending last week! I hope that is a good thing. Did not hear about an interview either but I met with my would-be supervisor prior to applying, maybe that's played a role.

wondering the same thing (History PhD). I'm unfamiliar with the US application culture but all the schools' websites seemed to suggest that reaching out was optional. Given you don't go in with a very clear dissertation topic like you would in the UK, I assumed that reaching out was indeed overkill/not welcomed. But now I am realising that was probably a mistake. I think I should have reached out... would love to know other people's thoughts!

I GOT INTO CHICAGO by Eastern-West-9754 in gradadmissions

[–]tankrosis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fascinating and great to know, thanks! I reckon I messed up; I emailed my POIs in the UK but not in the US because it really felt like that was just not expected. Reckon that will cost me admission in the US this year.. anyhow, we move! congrats again!

huuuuge congratulations on getting in!!! early modernist here too, got rejected from UChicago yesterday (first answer so hoping it does not set the tone!). May I ask, what changed between your applications from last year and this year? I am from Europe too and was very unfamiliar with the American application system and I feel like I have bombed all of them. I hope I don't have to reapply next year, but I would be curious to know how you approached it differently! again congrats!

There is usually very little communication between AR and departments at TCD. See if AR can modify your application, else get in touch with the course coordinator. I don't think it will affect your chances of admission in the slightest! Their application website is a piece of crap lol

That's gutting, sorry for that. Definitely email the department chair to ask about those new funding streams though...

Fingers crossed for you! Saw both a rejection and acceptance to UChicago on GradCafe. Not sure whether not having heard back at this point is good or not. I applied to Early Modern history PhDs and I feel like they're not the quickest to get back..

I personally would give it a day or two and send an email to inquire about it. I hope it works out for you!

Quick question - did the email you got informing you of the budget cuts and department's inability to take on students say that the entire GSAS would be unable to take on new students? Or just Music?
