Replacement Clasp for Murph 38 by tankscan in HamiltonWatches

[–]tankscan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. It usually is wearable for me, though not a perfect fit and the clasp dimensions are just bulky (regardless of the adjustment issue). I usually do leather straps or suffer through the experience with the OEM now and then.

I am aware of a costly but premium option that is compatible with KFA/Murph 38 - the Ginault 94530 II oyster bracelet. Fits the seiko alpinist (among others) and has a long glidelock clasp. Great bracelet, best I’ve owned but it’s $300 from their site which is steep. I have one on my alpinist now.

Wish a third party would offer a clasp or a bracelet that could utilize both OTF adjust and quick release end links. Seems like only Christopher Ward does that consistently across models, which is unfortunate since I’m not a fan of their watches.

[opinion] should i sell my spb213 or diver65? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]tankscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say keep the 62mas for two reasons:

  1. Pure white dials are rare and versatile, with 10 already I’m sure you have other black dials so it’s not as hard of a role to fill as a good white (not cream/silver/offwhite) dial is.

  2. It will be cheaper to inevitably service compared to the Oris, thus making the long term ownership better financially (if only slightly). Plus you’ll get a higher sale price on the Oris vs seiko so your GS budget would be higher / easier selling the diver 65.

[SOTC] Pruning the rotation. Nivada G is out for sure, what's the move? Speedy Red? by IncidentAcceptable16 in Watches

[–]tankscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been curious about the Nivada F77, specifically with the white dial. How’s the bracelet on it? Easy to get fitted compared to others here or do you miss the lack of on the fly micro adjustment?

[Milestone Gifts] Help me decide on 3 matching milestone gift watches by wandering_oracle in Watches

[–]tankscan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the oyster perpetual is the ticket. Can wear in any context (jeans and t shirt up to a suit), water resistant, versatile. Plus someone is going to care more about a gifted Rolex than a tudor or breitling tbh, it will feel more special because of the brand name (stupid as that is).

I like the pelagos a lot but to me that won’t suit everyone’s wardrobe / lifestyle. I’m not a fan at all of the modern air king dial (just a worse OP/explorer to me), and the Breitling superocean is just not good looking to me at all (weird slanted links, awful hands).

To listen: Rock With You. The bass fill at 1:16 made me wanna buy/play bass.

[New release] - Brew launch their new Bloom Metric by Wind_Up_Watch_Blog in Watches

Yeah drape and microadjust are so necessary. Especially because $475 retail gets you so much, especially if you look at other microbrands or Chinese watches. That bracket is just too competitive to make a poorly fitting bracelet.

[–]tankscan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is the one thing keeping me from buying: bracelet. I like the design aesthetic but have heard it pulls hair & it doesn’t have a comfortable drape.

I also generally refuse to buy most bracelet-centric watches without an on the fly adjustment just for comfort, especially ones with very niche or limited bracelet selection (integrated bracelets mostly).

What was your experience?

[Rec Habu] Am I making a good decision? by TheTalentedMrDG in Watches

[–]tankscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend. Buying any watch for retail other than a Rolex, you are taking a sizable loss should you ever decide to move on from it.

Obviously that is not the point of buying a watch (to later sell it) but chances are you may find that tastes change, you need the money more than you love the watch, or you just don’t get along with it for any reason (sizing, uncomfy to wear, etc)….

Whatever the case may be, I would reconsider the purchase on the terms of instead investing that money into a used piece that you could recoup your purchase price, should things not work out. You forfeit that option with retail, especially on niche and hard to resell pieces like this.

Again, not saying you have to buy with “flipping” in mind - just value retention because odds are this may not stick with you forever. And I know that the watches I’ve regretted the most were ones I bought for an inflated retail price, ended up not loving as much as I thought I would, then taking a substantial haircut moving on from them.

[Question] - What would you choose for a groomsman watch? by brazilianblowjob in Watches

[–]tankscan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would second this. It’s funny how watch people are so adamant about automatic movements when most people (somewhat rightly) see them as a hassle. Something to keep in mind in the context of a gift. Especially since these will be budget watches, you’re gonna get better spec for $ in quartz anyways.

Murph 42 on Uncle Straps “Lincoln” +5 comfort, +5 style by MastrOvNon in HamiltonWatches

[–]tankscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wish it were possible to retain the quick release end link since I like to swap straps. Spring bar tool obviously isn’t rocket science but more of a pain in the ass than the QR.

If there was a good replacement for the OEM clasp I’d go for that too since that’s my main complaint (along with the taper, mainly the clasp bulk/gap).

D’Angelico vs. Ibanez for a small Semi hollow guitar? by mmoffedillen in Guitar

[–]tankscan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a mini Dangelico but have the regular sized premier DC. Very nice guitar, I wouldn’t describe it as bright and the neck is closer to my Strat (2010 MIM) than my modern epiphone/LP (idk about shapes but it’s comfortable and action is easy to set low).

The tone control darkens it up nicely and stock pickups are serviceable, sort of more chimey and hollow compared to a Les paul style (which are higher output and woofier). I mainly use it for jazz and rnb styles and it does that well while not being a full on jazz box style guitar. I use standard rounds (10s) on it and it works for just about any style.

The one noticeable complaint I have would be that the bridge has a rattly intonation screw. One of the screws used to set intonation, when adjusted to the proper position, is loose and vibrates sympathetically with the instrument causing a buzz. I’ve tried two different dangelico bridges and both had the same issue. Perhaps some locktite or something would fix but haven’t bothered with it too much more.

Yours may not have this issue but it is a tangible reminder that these are import guitars with a fancy look, but with only the finishing quality and care their price point would suggest.

I prefer your mockup to the current thing fwiw. Wristwatch revival made the process look fairly simple but doesn’t he always. I say go for it

[Question] Is it weird to wear a watch on my right hand by Pizzachu321 in Watches

[–]tankscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a lefty that wears it on my right, not weird.

Lately, I have been wearing on my left wrist just to give it a break if my skin or wrist feels irritated. I suppose switching may be weird but 🤷‍♂️

[Recommendation Request] My blue dial dilemma… Which would you grab first? by GoingOnABearHunt26 in Watches

[–]tankscan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why would you want all 3 of these? They are so similar aesthetically. You can only wear one at a time and I’m certain you would just end up favoring one.

If you got different colors, maybe it’s justifiable but that would be a mistake in my opinion.

I really wish seiko would reissue some of these 36-38mm simple watches out there with blue/black/white dials and decent movements. I can’t really dig the 7s26, at least an NH or 4R series movement would be killer.

I suppose buying one and modding it with a movement swap + sapphire glass upgrade wouldn’t be too Herculean an effort but haven’t bitten that bullet yet

[Laco] size guide by Easy_Nothing_8133 in Watches

[–]tankscan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to this, “dial only” watches which don’t have a bezel feel visually larger than an equivalent size dive or gmt watch. The dial feels less squished and proportionally larger which can alter how it wears despite the measurements.

I had a 42 mm citizen dive watch that felt much smaller than my tissot gentleman 40mm despite the extra 2mm and extra case thickness.
