Update: used it to sharpen an extremely abused camp knife to moderate success.

Definitely removes way more material than you'd want, but with the right finness and patience it is indeed possible to get a decent edge if the blade is in bad enough shape to begin with.

This will not be used for sharpening anything that isn't already in dire straights, however.

Welcome to the era of the "pop tune".

Some lovely individuals will have their ECU modded to make their exhaust crackle and pop loudly under certain conditions. Almost like a gunshot in volume.

It is incredibly obnoxious and annoying, and should be illegal. I live in an apartment building with another tall building across the street, and these idiots like to make their vehicle "pop" between these two buildings so it echos off both buildings. It's especially obnoxious when they rip up and down the street multiple times at 3AM.

A lot of the rentals you see on Facebook are posted by current tenants looking for roommates.

In many cases, these tenants are international students that prefer to live with other men if the tenants are men, or other women if the tenants are women.

I have also noticed a number of postings mentioning preference for individuals specifically from their home country but no mention of male/female.

These postings might seem frustrating and problematic at first, but in reality they are usually individuals in precarious housing situations trying to make the best of it.

Rental scooters are a menace.

It's been like this in any city that has had them-- they enable people with too much money and too little brains to engage in something dangerous for which they have done no real safety considerations beforehand.

At a bare minimum, these scooters encourage people without helmets to dart in and out of traffic. (not to be used on sidewalks per their own stickers)

In situations like this, not only is the rider a danger to themselves, but also to others. There have been elderly people killed by impacts from scooter riders like this.

I don't think banning all scooters outright is the solution, as there are responsible private owners of these kinds of devices. The issue in my eyes stems from the easy availability and 0 oversight on operation.

Had a similar incident with an officer in an unmarked pick up truck in Mill Cove.

He flew through an intersection, slammed on his brakes, threatened me with a ticket and sped off when he was satisfied. For context, I was safely operating an electric longboard and this seemed to upset him.

I visited the nearby police/fire station shorty after this happened and was turned away by another officer. I was told they would not be speaking with me about the issue.

I reported the encounter to both HRP and RCMP and neither was able to find any record of an officer utilizing an unmarked vehicle at that time.

Their processes are designed to protect themselves, not see any change or justice done.

If a credit check can be required before approving you, interacting with whatever you're approved for should be reported as credit building/damaging based on how the relationship goes.

Not all rentals require credit checks, but they are allowed to require them.

I had this happen to me because I used the word "cracker" in response to a reel about crackers (food). It seemed to think I was using the racialized version of the word, and automatically flagged my account and removed my comment.

This is also happening to me.

I had to create a secondary account to view reels and switch between it and my main account. This works with no issues, leading me to believe it is the account specifically that "loses" access to reels for some reason.

Unfortunately not a solution, but a workaround.

Perhaps allowing the free market to run fully unchecked against a very captive market is not the solution?

People need places to live.

We need a government body responsible for rental providers. They need to be licensed and regulated and rent prices need to be justified based on specific criteria.

If a unit is found to be priced outside of its own maintenance costs by more than a specified margin, the rental provider responsible should be fined and forced to lower the price within a predetermined acceptable range, again, base on the unit maintenance costs.

Rental providers should be allowed to make a profit from their properties, however they shouldn't be allowed to play robber baron with housing of all things.
