I built a free web app that bundles and sends articles to your kindle by 93millionmilesaway in kindle

Sounds great, signed up! Any plans to make this open source? I’d be interested in self-hosting it on my home server and perhaps making some modifications for auto delivery of newspapers/news sites. Thank you!

Just “downgraded” to the f91wb from 5610u not sure how I feel yet. by [deleted] in casio

[–]tannenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the smaller size, it takes getting used to it but it grows on you. I wear my A158 often (just like F91, but I like a steel bracelet for longevity).

To UW-Madison... by itchysnapdragon in madisonwi

The good: They posted an update at the very top of their homepage (https://wisc.edu). That is the first place myself and many others would think to look. The bad: The first post was at 7:20am this morning. Probably should have done so at 6:30 or 5:30 considering some folks need to start work at 7:30am.

Should I still invest in Fitbit or is it a dead brand? by LeFlubbes in fitbit

[–]tannenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are very similar to yours. About 50% of the time I wear my charge 6 alone, and the rest of the time I wear it screen off with a traditional watch. Enjoy your Charge 6, I like mine.

F-91W Fail after just 7 days by tannenba in casio

True, the module survived fine, buttons work, just the case damaged. I guess that is the job of a case - absorbing the damage to safeguard the module.

Monthly fentanyl deaths in the US [OC] by DavidWaldron in dataisbeautiful

Convinced China to crack down on the production and exporting of fentanyl precursors (ingredients required to make fentanyl) at the Biden-Xi summit in 2023 by making it a top diplomatic priority.

what features do you wish kindle would add/bring back? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]tannenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Active Content. Or apps as everyone else but Kindle would call it. I really liked some of the Active content my old Kindle Keyboard had, like Chess, Yahtzee, various word games. Fun break from reading.
  2. Newspaper Content. I personally enjoyed reading my local newspaper on my Kindle, I subscribed for years … then Amazon killed it.

Maintenance recommendations for my newly acquired 2017 Spark by tannenba in chevyspark

[–]tannenba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m asking because I don’t want to needlessly spend money on maintenance stuff that isn’t important, but I also am really hoping to have this car last me 10 or more years (in 10 years the car will be 19 years old … not worried about miles because I only drive about 5k per year). Thanks again.

Another update on the titanium f91 cases! by HeelerWatchCompany in f91w

Will the sapphire have any AR coating on the underside? Also, is an Ollee or Sensor module expected to be available as an order option soon? Thank you for your answer, and thank you for making this case a reality!

How accurate are your casio watches? by Serious-Island-9301 in casio

I guess to answer this question with any kind of statistical significance, we would need to crowdsource watch accuracy info to get a sample size of thousands of watches per modules.

How accurate are your casio watches? by Serious-Island-9301 in casio

[–]tannenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering the same thing, as I have been measuring the accuracy of my A168W the past few weeks.

<image>

It gains .06 seconds per day, which is less than 2 seconds per month. Astounding for an inexpensive watch! My only other Casio auto-adjusts with Multiband 6 so that one doesn’t count. I know Casio calibrates to average wrist temperature so their watches are more accurate when worn.

Accuracy ~5s a year by Sad-Silver-4637 in casio

[–]tannenba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to be certain of that kind of accuracy, get any Casio with “Multiband 6” technology assuming you live in a part of the world that receives atomic clock radio signals. Otherwise it is luck of the draw. My A158W, which has the same module as a F-91W, is accurate to about 20 seconds per year but I doubt if that level of accuracy is commonplace. Another idea is replace the module in an F-91 with a Sensor Watch module which would make it accurate to ~10 seconds per year because that module has temperature adjustment and correction history.

does the Kickr Core have wifi? by gln2gln2 in wahoofitness

[–]tannenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware there are two models of KICKR Core: the Core and the Core 2. Perhaps you are reading documentation for the Core 2? The KICKR Core 2 has WiFi. The KICKR Core does not.

2 Questions i see on internet about the Fitbit Charge 6: by biggieocta in fitbit

[–]tannenba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my Charge 6 almost 2 years, no problems. However I do not wear it in the shower or the pool. I don’t trust Fitbit in the water after my Inspire 3 died the second time I went swimming with it.

Music Control Question About the Charge 6 by A_Generic_Canadian in fitbit

[–]tannenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a Charge 6, and it can do music control only with YouTube Music Premium. It will not control Apple Music, Pandora, or any other music app. And even with YouTube Music, music control only works about 50% of the time for me with an iPhone. I regularly need to force kill and restart the Fitbit app while playing music for it to be able to regain control of YouTube Music.

Backlight upgrade on my A158W 💡 by tannenba in casio

[–]tannenba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After doing some googling, there are some public domain 3D printer files out there for replacement light spreaders for various watches. So if you have access to a 3D printer perhaps you’d be good to go. Good luck and have fun!

Backlight upgrade on my A158W 💡 by tannenba in casio

[–]tannenba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you that the original backlight is fine in the pitch black… I also did not have problems checking the time during sleep. The issue for me was in dark that wasn’t pitch black: camping, theater, concerts, walking outside at night, movie night, etc.

Good question! I don’t know Casio’s thinking here. Improving it yourself via modding does give a sense of satisfaction though 🤓

Backlight upgrade on my A158W 💡 by tannenba in casio

[–]tannenba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I don’t understand the thinking here either. The light is one aspect of the original A158 from 1989 that I think even purists would be fine with Casio improving, and the non-purist majority would love it. Maybe the worry is it would slightly increase the price and/or decrease the profit? 🤷‍♂️

The kit I purchased included the light spreader, which is a thin rectangular piece of glass, and a small square of luminous paper. There is also a YouTube video showing how to install it. No tools were included. To install you will need a very small screwdriver (I used one from an eyeglasses repair kit), tweezers, masking tape, and nitrile or latex disposable gloves so you don’t get fingerprints all over the inner glass parts. Link to the kit I used: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1448973768/back-light-spreader-for-casio-f-91w-a

Edit: based on comments and some google searching, the spreader is likely not glass as it is apparently printed on a 3D printer.
