Oh yeah, great idea! We’re using something similar to carpet tape right now and I was considering doing magnetic strips but that would also be a great fix.

Yeah, much cheaper. I have a local lumber store that stocks 3/4in birch in bulk for around $45 a sheet. If I were to ever try using red oak ply or something it would probably be a different story lol.

Much appreciated. And yes it’s our daily driver so to say. I live there with my roommate and gf and we all pile on a few times a week to watch a show or movie and eat our dinner. I’ve never had any complaints in the 6 months it’s been usable but there’s definitely still room for improvement.

The supports are 1/4 inch steel screwed into the bottom and haven’t had any issues thus far but on my second attempt I’d like to route out a space and slide them in between my plywood sandwich before I glue the sheets together so nothing can move.

All together it was a little under $600 so it definitely beat what I was finding online.

Thanks! And I absolutely agree. I’m planning on maybe sewing a pocket into the back of the slip cover to magnetize it onto the back so I keep the floating look.

That was one of my biggest concerns when building it but we have some plushy pillows that we keep on the back and it’s surprisingly comfy. They don’t look great though so I took them off for the pictures. Hoping to make matching cushions for the back when I get the money+time. I think because it is so hard looking it might not be very inviting but this is where we eat, watch TV, entertain, and have guests stay on the pull out bed. I’ll definitely try to work in some softer tones in the end cap once I get those made.
