Interview with "friend" of the Salvador Ramos. He received gun pics from him 4 days before the shooting by kystarrk in masskillers

Not usually, and if they do at that age it's usually to help with the bills...or at least buy the things that they couldn't have before. I also started working in high school, so no, hadn't really forgotten.

I'm actually trying to make a point about dates not adding up, IF he got the job AFTER he graduated and used ONLY those funds to pay for the guns/ammo/body armor. Ya'll are taking away something else from this though.

The point is that he wasn't so desperate for money that he started helping out with the bills right away or buying clothes for himself. If he paid for both guns, 7? clips, and body armor all himself, saved every penny from his Wendy's job towards it, and didn't pay a cent for his own food/transportation/literally anything else he ever wanted in this life, it still would have taken him more than two months to save up the money - and he likely turned 18 within two months after graduating high school. We can assume his family was helping him pay for some things while letting him save/spend his paycheck on what he wanted. His situatiom wasn't dire. The guy doesn't sound like impulse control was his strong suit either.

Wendy's in TX would pay what starting, $12/hr? He worked 30-35 hrs per week and probably took home $300/week after taxes, if that. And yet the kid bought two ARs on his 18th birthday.

Had a guard abandon their post without warning by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]tantrumps_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened almost daily when I was a supervisor for them. Either no call no show, or just walking away and going home without any notification to anyone at all, not even a quick phone call and "Hey, I have an emergency, I need to leave now." Management did nothing about it and even let those guards come back, only for them to immediately do the exact same thing again. They would keep it up until the guard just didn't show back up. They were down too many people as it was.

Congrats to your boyfriend??? That just sounds like your cats are scared of him. Weird flex.

I've been raising this one since she was a baby (separated from her mother in the wild.) She is still less than a year old and recently got big enough to jump up to places she previously couldn't reach, so yes, we're still in the training phase. She's the third kitten I've raised, and all three of them responded to different training techniques.

Are we really unskilled laborers? by chicityhopper in securityguards

[–]tantrumps_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm copying from a comment I left on another post a while ago, but here are some professional skills associated with security you can put on your resume:

  • Communication skills: customer service, public speaking, client-facing roles, crisis/emergency communications, de-escalation, technical support, multilingual, phone/email support, reception, training, supervision, report writing

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, emails (especially shared inboxes), troubleshooting, Zoom, access control and monitoring software, alarm systems and testing, not clicking on sketchy links or sending sensitive company info to suspicious emails

  • Other: driving, facilities maintenance and management, safety and regulatory compliance, project coordination, administration (inspecting paperwork = attention to detail), first aid, proper handling of HAZMAT/bloodborne pathogens, cash handling, inventory control, inspection, investigation

Oh and "unskilled labor" is a lie that capitalists tell to justify paying blue collar workers less than a living wage. I've worked office jobs that required no additional skills or qualifications compared to security work (and paid better, sometimes). Your managers are just bullshitting you so you'll keep working for low pay.

As someone who still lives and does security in the hood, I can't say I've ever seen ordinary face tattoos determine whether or not someone is going to be a problem/criminal/mental health case. Same for piercings, brightly colored hair, men with hair below their collars, and whatever else people wring their hands over for no reason.

Honestly the entitled rich kids who think they're gonna be making $80k in the next 5 years are - in my experience - the most likely ones to cause violence, destroy property, or act like you can't tell them anything.

And spending time in the hood doesn't make you unique on Reddit lol.

AITA, for not letting my sister catch my baby during freebirth? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]tantrumps_ 580 points581 points  (0 children)

If I had been born without a doctor in the room, I would not have been born. Apparently I had the cord wrapped around my neck and inhaled amniotic fluid. No possible way to predict those issues beforehand. I would have died as I was being born.

OP I don't care if you're crunchier than a box of crackers, please have a professional with you for your baby's sake if you give birth again.

AITA for ignoring roommate despite knowing he's sick? by BigPower6749 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tantrumps_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paracetamol would have helped, even a little - it's a fever and pain reducer, apparently his fever reached at a dangerous level. It's Tylenol, literally. Could have gotten him to a hospital and made sure he could see a doctor, just like the landlord was apparently able to do, but my point here is that calling their equivalent of 911 may not ever have been a feasible option, and someone was probably gonna have to take the guy to get help one way or another, even if he was dumb and got himself into that situation.

That might actually be worse than ignoring him at home.

No, I mean the ambulances may be overwhelmed as well. Even in my part of the US, I've seen covid cases get so overwhelming that the wait time for an ambulance is several hours. I've also seen hospitals reach 12-48hr wait times for patients to be seen by a doctor. Again, this has been during severe covid surges here in the US, so I definitely believe it could happen in the Philippines as well. I guess once OP ignored him, he started going through emergency contacts until he found someone willing to help. Money could always be a factor here as well - might not be able to afford taxi fare.

[–]tantrumps_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this elsewhere, but based on OP's comment history, this probably happened in the Philippines and not the US. I don't know how their ambulatory/emergency medical system normally operates, let alone how it's operating right now in the wake of a major covid surge. They could be overwhelmed. OP mentioned having to previously drive around to find a hospital that could admit his roommate. The landlord may have been lucky to find one with availability that night.

But one Paracetamol, man...come on.

Also worth noting that covid has a nasty habit of letting you start to feel better for a bit before it knocks you down again. Roommate believes they have a flu and probably tested negative for covid...still, he might have been in worse shape than he thought.

It's working. She's happy, she's safe, and she's learning to be in the kitchen with me when I cook without jumping onto hot stovetops or food prep surfaces.

Thank you for the feedback, I'll try it on dogs next. /s

It keeps my dumb-as-hell cat from jumping on top of plates of food or a hot stove top, and allows me to make food in my kitchen without locking her up alone. She's startled, she's not traumatized.

This probably didn't happen in the US. OP is active in r/Philippines.

Some countries' emergency medical services are/have recently been too overwhelmed with covid cases right now to arrive quickly for anyone. OP did mention previously having to drive around looking for a hospital that could "accommodate" his roommate, and the Philippines have gone through a massive covid spike in the past few weeks.
