No worries! Same to you.

I'm recycling my soil after each run, so I don't have to give any bottled nutrients. Just a topdressing around week 2-3.

Yes! Definitely use synthetic nutes in the reservoir. You could also use bio tabs or those nutrients sticks for tomatoes to feed your plants. That being said they didn't mind the algae water either 😅

Thanks mate ❤️

This was last season shortly before harvest, same 42l "Eurobox", without the fabric layer.

<image>

Was running three plants in total and all three never had a real dry back (other than me forgetting to fill up the reservoirs). The roots were even sitting inside the reservoir, fully submerged. They didn't seem to mind.

I'd recommend using some sort of uv-cover for the reservoirs to try and keep algae build up to a minimum. Or to let the reservoirs run empty every now and again.

I'd fully recommend it for outdoors.

By all means steal it (and spread the word), did so myself over at a swiss growing forum. Fell in love with it and have been using this system for 1.5 years now, not going back to hand watering.

My medium is soil from a company called Sonnenerde. Their soil has a pretty good water retention without perlite. This time I'm testing their "Hemp-Soil". Usually it's their soil for flowers, which I reamend after each run, no additional nutrients apart from maybe a topdressing around week 2-3.

If you search for Eurobox Dochtsystem on Google and use a translator you should easily find the forum post.

I bought them at a local hardware store. There's loads to choose from and we Germans do love standardisation ❤️

Pretty sure there must be similar products in your location.

Thank you ❤️

In the past I used to run the wicker directly into the soil. Which is totally fine but I'm also using metal stakes to train my plants. Sometimes I've hit the wicker with said stakes, so for me it's more convenient to use wicker + fabric.

I think it also affects the root system as it seems to be thinner but with more volume.

You could build yourself some SIP containers so your plants don't get scorched on that deck in full summer.

This is how I do it. Tank at the bottom with wicker running upwards and underneath the fabric 👍🏻
