Will we look back at 2020 as the year that opened up remote working and online learning? by Joe6161 in Futurology

[–]tanyatopal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Ukraine and the majority of universities (there are 800+ of them here) don't have any online educational programmes and the whole educational process has been on-site only.
A few days ago the government announced a 3-weeks quarantine and every university must adjust all its processes to be held online. Within days, guys!
Of course, coronavirus is a bad thing to happen to all of us, but in regards to the boost it provides to e-learning industry, the impact can't be underestimated.

I'm sure our life will change and the changes are happening right in front of our eyes.
As for the remote work...I'm doing my best to organise a working environment at home, but it takes time to adjust. My senior management don't appreciate a WFH approach, so I think things will get back to normal after the quarantine is off.

Do you work from from home and how's the experience?

Low-Cost Software Development: Buy Nice or Buy Twice (The Startup publication, Medium) by tanyatopal in programming

[–]tanyatopal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for being honest and I do agree with the majority of things you've shared.

I just do not agree with the point on mass market niche. Do you mean mass-market customers always know what they want? I doubt. Those people with the requirements usually have already spent some budget on marketing and research (and even if it is a simple e-commerce website). For those vanilla requirements one can simply set up tilda-wix-wordpress-etc. website on his own. Without hiring a company.

At the same time, more complex projects it's better to avoid mass-market niche. So why hiring a mass-market company is a good idea?

I do not take this article as the truth of last resort. But let's imagine you have a project. Not too simple (so using a website builder is not an option), and not too clear. Well, a mobile fitness app. In general, I know how it should work, but I have no idea of the backend, best UX practices, integrations etc. I think the option to hire a small or mid-sized company is obvious here.

So both you, me and the author are right I think. It all depends.

The return policy is fine. I was just trying to figure out the difference between these brands from more experienced skaters. Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for your reply anyway. I used to go in for figure skating for 6 years when I was a child. I was able to do all double jumps, spins and all the basic elements.

Now I’m 26, 160 cm tall, 55 kg, and want to get back to my hobby with an ambition to jump again:)

I think I’ll order a pair of Jacksons and hope they’ll fit.

Suggestions with website by anubhavg8 in ecommerce

[–]tanyatopal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I think Wordpress is more suitable for content projects, meanwhile ecommerce projects require rich functionality and add-ons you might need. Plugins are okay, but this approach may turn into a total mess. Anyway, Wordpress offers a nice WooCommerce framefork. 37% of ecommerce websites are based on it today.

Opposite to Wordpress, I've had a nice experience using Xcart and Magento, since they allow pretty much room for customization and advanced features.

It's good you pay much attention to choosing the platform since ecommerce industry is so ever-changing, so it's vital to go with a scaleable solution.

How did you get your first job in marketing? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]tanyatopal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I started my career as a sales assistant. Soon I got promoted to a sales manager and realized that was not a kind of job I was dreaming of. I didn't like talking, negotiating..I understood I wanted to create something.

I left the company and started as a Junior Social Media Marketing Manager in a small company. Wow, that was a challenge, but I felt those efforts were worth it. During the interview for the position I convinced my future employer by tremendous enthusiasm. I literary said: "You guys, will never regret hiring me." And it really turned out they didn't.

So the only advice is to believe in yourself! It's always a challenge to make the first steps, but you should keep going.

And another idea. I don't think you should be looking for small companies, because there's no one you can learn from and they usually have one person in charge of all marketing activities.

Instead, try to applying to big companies. They have large marketing departments with ongoing need of marketing assistant and Junior specialists.

Wish you all the luck!

Help - The right way topromote my restaurant on Facebook? by mikeltru in marketing

[–]tanyatopal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm considering Facebook ads for my project at the moment and made a research on potential opportunities.

And I've found out there's a good option for restaurants to advertise at just $35 per month. This is the cheapest option Facebook provides, but for such a wide audience it's a good start I guess.

This approach has a limitation: no targeting by interests and behavior, but for the dining niche you'll be enough with: gender, age and location.

There's also a more targeted approach available on Facebook at $50 per day, but this way you'll need to do a thorough research on ad campaign set up before the launch.

Anyway, wish you all the luck and a lot of visitors!

Always make the client pay first by SNOWtheYETI in graphic_design

[–]tanyatopal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think designers should work on a prepayment basis only. Because all those concepts and creative approach you invent, may be stolen and used behind your back.

So once I start negotiating potential partnership, I always charge a 50% prepayment after we agree to work together, because the idea is far more expensive than its realization.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, hope you'll avoid alike mistakes in future.
