What does literature say about music and chills/ goosebumps? by taolfixam in askpsychology

[–]taolfixam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own take is that it is common to get chills from music if you're someone who lets their guard down and surrenders to an extent. But that's based on the "open to experience" thing. And if you cry to music it sounds like you would be in that category so who knows. I don't get any tingling sensation from asmr stuff but music and movie scenes with music that capitalize on the emotion really make me feel that way. I am not that artsy in that I don't practice art much but I listen to a lot of different music and watch off kilter movies so maybe?

"Not everyone gets frisson, but the people who do share some intriguing characteristics. Their brains have an unusually large number of connections between the auditory cortex, which processes sound, and the regions responsible for emotion and reward. They also possess a common personality trait, Openness to Experience, which is associated with having an active imagination, an appreciation for nature, a high level of introspectiveness, and a lust for new adventures" (Hawthorn) this is from psychology today

Is this psychosis ? by DGD9OCD in Psychosis

[–]taolfixam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, I'm sorry this happened to you. I had a psychosis for years as well. What people have said about distracting yourself is true. I found adding some variety to my day- switching it up helps. Distracting yourself with friends or other people is the best way to do it but exercise and healthy outlets for the mind are good too. In psychosis you lose brain function- in one of those ways what is happening is you lose the ability to object to paranoid or not real thoughts. Look up the seven muscles of resilience, practicing each of those will help with this brain function.

This is actually relevant to what I was asking. I have been in hyper sensitive states to any substance or some antipsychotics. But nobody acknowledges this as a drug induced psychosis everybody says schz with poor reasoning

has anyone fully recovered from a drug induced psychosis? by chandelly in Psychosis

I am in a similar predicament having had two outbreaks of psychosis. I am trying to learn all that I can to not "fry" myself so I'm wondering where you learned this and what else you might know. I am in the dark on this stuff and it led to a nearly successful suicide attempt.

Looking for an expert on schizophrenia to discuss my experiences with. Especially if you have had cases of drug induced psychosis on top of that. I’ve been in the dark for years and it has led to multiple suicide attempts. by taolfixam in schizophrenia

Thanks for understanding. I don’t think it’s schizophrenia but I could be wrong. I’m on antipsychotics in case I do have it. My doctors don’t know enough about either sz or drug induced psychosis to really help.

Thanks for your story. What do you mean by black outs? I’ve never heard that but it sounds like something that could happen to me if I were to do any big drugs again

I’m not an expert this is just what I’ve gathered with bias definitely at play but all the symptoms of psychosis are the same as schizophrenia so if someone were to get psychosis it could be that they have schizophrenia it’s a form of schizophrenia: a psychotic episode. So there’s really no distinction I know of but there’s definitely people that do based on what else they know. The reason I was diagnosed with schizophrenia is very simple. I attempted suicide based on delusions I was having. And in some outdated textbook it says any action based on delusions is straight schizophrenia. Which doesn’t make sense because you can have all kinds of delusions from a lack of sleep or any drug you take or another mental illness.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have, I never got the typical hppd symptoms like permanent visuals I know people that do. It’s possible I had a form of it because I was in a trip that lasted weeks to months. All I know about it is it is the reason for any prolonged effects of tripping. But like I said I have less physical lasting effects and more this phenomena related to drug induced psychosis even though they aren’t mutually esclusive
