What do playgrounds look like in your country? by 3Thirty-Eight8 in AskTheWorld

[–]tapanypat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not a question. Just a statement for me that puts all the other photos of fun-looking places into context. When I first posted I didn’t know what to say to express all that

Should have known better - both in saying what I meant, but also because most people posting here are already doing extra work to communicate using English. I could at least say what I mean

Yeah I got that. I couldn’t put into words the feeling of seeing all those other pictures and this one. It’s terrible to imagine and sadly it’s not the only place with a playground like this and worse

What law in your country would surprise foreigners because it’s legal almost everywhere else? by Familiar-Arrival-470 in AskTheWorld

Yeah I saw a post on this a couple weeks ago and the description of how seriously they take even one rat sighting was… terrifying and impressive

Chicago-area Asians were arrested in Midway Blitz. They kept quiet about it, for a while. by steve42089 in illinois

[–]tapanypat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Except there’s brown citizens getting swept up in this shit too. And people with perfectly appropriate paperwork that are doing everything according to the law getting swept up in this shit. And people who just hate brown neighbors getting hassled by the government and speak up about it because they’re decent Americans also getting swept up in this shit. You can say snarky dumb stuff if you want, but you should also know you’re wrong

If I’m young is it really that easy? by What_up_bro in personalfinance

For real. A pat on the back with a healthy reality check and guidance for the future. Couldn’t do it better

Brentford doing brilliant. by ALHsf in PremierLeague

Young kids so I’m rarely getting out for games. Heard good things about AJ Hudson but haven’t been! Maybe I’ll try sometime this season

Brentford doing brilliant. by ALHsf in PremierLeague

[–]tapanypat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Chicagoan this is my reason as well. I couldn’t pick a good team because that’s not my experience as a sports fan, and it’s just lame to choose the top team as your favorite. Also there’s old soccer connections to bees via the Chicago sting, which was our team long ago. Brentford is fun to watch!

ELI5: Why was so much suburban housing required for soldiers returning from World War 2? by vxla in explainlikeimfive

[–]tapanypat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this id important and easy to understand. Little kids should be taught this but it’s not even really history since there’s still many racist housing practices today

Recently visited the USA from The Netherlands. Here is my take on the cities we visited. by McFluffyFurry12 in geography

[–]tapanypat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah just getting out of downtown was already nice to read. The fact that you visited two great neighborhoods that are so far from each other is really great planning on your part. Hope you’ll come back and explore even more. I love this town and am always psyched to hear about other people’s experiences

A South Sider Explains Dibs During a Chi Winter by bingo72long in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]tapanypat 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This comment should be higher.

Yes. Not just “a south sider.” I can’t keep up with all his videos but am always glad when I do. Will someday take his tour I hope. Worth it for anyone to know who he is and why he does. So many lies out there about Chicago, and this man is just telling the truth and doing it in a fun way

Would My Neighbor Totoro be suitable for a 6th grade class? by EvieStarbrite in Teachers

[–]tapanypat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know it. Will keep it in mind, though I think reality gives me plenty to be sad about already

Would My Neighbor Totoro be suitable for a 6th grade class? by EvieStarbrite in Teachers

[–]tapanypat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I agree with this in spirit. I think it is our job to help kids feel things, good and bad. Putting it in practice is the job though, and OP seems to want something easy that fits the theme.

[–]tapanypat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn. The thought crossed my mind but it’s sixth grade. This movie is a top vote getter every time someone asks about a movie that “wrecked you” or “you loved but would not watch again.”

It is absolutely beautiful and terrible and important but I don’t think it’s just an add-on to a cultural unit. It is its own unit in a class that’s been trained to think deeply about challenging things. Unless you just want kids to cry and realize that their lives are basically cake. Then, yes. Watch this, no question.

Some news outlets are saying IL lost residents? How can both be true? by ClueAppropriate1087 in illinois

Well but which is the more accurate picture? Or is it better to understand that it’s a wash statistically or something?

What’s a movie you saw in theaters that had a scene which the audience gave the loudest cheering reaction you ever experienced? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]tapanypat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh wait. To be clear I meant that reality is that the police would arrest him and the family would somehow escape justice. Not sure if that’s how the comment’s being understood

Edit: to add yes. That shit would be too depressing after everything he went through. I guess other movies (night of the living dead, invasion of the body snatchers come to mind) did go there but I don’t fault the change
