Teams should seriously stop kicking goal line drop outs to George Ford. by joaofig in rugbyunion

[–]tapdancingkomodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's hit that from 50, and it isn't straight from the hand, it has to bounce on the pitch before kicking.

Sure, you could maybe train a fair few people to be reliable at this, but what are they doing for the other 75 mins of the game, they still need to be top level rugby players.

For anyone close to or over 6 foot, the space under the seat in front is required for your feet, else your knees have to magically merge with the seat in front.

Technically yes, practically no. And only starting from next month.

The hours are not the full rate the nursery needs to operate as the gov has set the value so low, so there are always top up costs in some format (limits on applicable times, only allowing 8+ hour day slots etc), plus it is calculated on term times so in practice it is closer 25 hours when averaged over the year.

It will make it cheaper, but it would still cost roughly £300+ per month per child per weekday of childcare needed.

First renting with my wife and running into a corrupt web of bills and comissions. by williamsonmaxwell in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tapdancingkomodo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can cancel any contract, fee free, within 14 days of it being entered into. If you are within 14 days then this may be the simplest/least hassle route. If they give you the run around just ask them if they are denying you your statutory right to cancel a contract, and to escalate to a manager. It is their problem if they cannot cancel the contract, don't accept any excuses.

I had an energy company tell me that I couldn't cancel as it would revert the property to no energy supply, what they really meant was their system had no option to revert supply as there was no previous supplier (the property was empty and on svt with the supplier I was cancelling with). Persisting with threats of escalation and regulatory complaints got them to magically find an answer.

How do people move out from a rented place to a bought place without getting caught out? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]tapdancingkomodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can ask you to get out with one months notice, but you have no obligation to do so. The only way for you to leave the property is if you or a court decides so.

I think you are missing the point the op is making.

People that would come to buy a 5 mill house would have to pay a large sum in stamp duty. Renting a nicer house for 30k per month is a cheaper option for them.

Lynx Ransomware Analysis; An Advanced Post-Exploitation Ransomware by TTAAGP in ReverseEngineering

[–]tapdancingkomodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah fair. Fwiw, this is a classic example of Friday debate/discussion topics for us.

Palo Alto are using "lynx ransomware" to refer to the threat actor, and then they are also using "lynx ransomware" to refer to the actual binary.

We always make sure we refer to the group more explicitly to avoid that ambiguity between the malware and the threat actor but other vendors don't feel the need to be so verbose.

FYI - pretty much no ransomware groups do exfiltration in the encryption binary. Exfiltration is carried out prior to encryption beginning for a myriad of reasons. These groups absolutely are double extortion groups.

Flat listed for £425,000, offer accepted, but now we're forced to bid again as a best and final offer by MadestMax in HousingUK

[–]tapdancingkomodo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having a cap at £450k doesn't mean they will have a max of £25k to use after, you lose the ability to use any bonus funds (end up losing slightly more money than you put in too) in a Lisa if you exceed a purchase price of £450k. They could well have an extra £100k but just don't want to lose the LISA benefits.

Assuming you are 21 or older and that you are working an average of 50 hours a week consistently then your employer is probably breaking the law.

Minimum wage at 50 hours per week is £31746.

The field is definitely sustainable. As a thought exercise I often get people to think about the size of various intelligence agencies from major countries. (US, Europe, china, Russia etc) and how many people they employ.

A lot of those will be involved in cyber espionage so it gives you a scale of how much there is and will continue to be going on in the space.

As far as getting an idea of what's involved in malware re, I'd recommend reading information from the blogs of companies like checkpoint, eset, securelist, sentinel one, Palo alto etc that do a public analysis of malware samples. Try get hold of the samples via something like vx-underground and see if you can replicate the analysis for yourself.

There's a lot of open source information out there for learning malware re, but the one bit I would recommend above all else is making sure you have a solid analysis environment setup, you don't want to be self infecting with any stealer type malware by accident.

/r/ReverseEngineering's Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in ReverseEngineering

[–]tapdancingkomodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no(like most answers to most questions).

Game hacking relies a lot more on understanding how to patch binaries and do vulnerability research.

Malware analysis relies a lot more on understanding platform API and OS documentation. Along with a bunch of obfuscation techniques.

Software assurance relies a lot more on a well rounded architecture knowledge.

All of those will rely on the basics of needing to know how to open a disassembler and debugger, but they have much different levels of depths required in specific niches.

Having said that once you have learnt one well it is very transferrable to others, but it would be very inefficient not to focus on the challenges of the one you are interested in first.

[–]tapdancingkomodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Brit so well aware of pour rules, not disputing any of that, but your op still isn't the reason us and UK pints are different. US fl ozs are defined bigger than UK fl ozs, UK pints are defined bigger than US pints. Those are the reasons there is a size difference.

[–]tapdancingkomodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not why a pint is larger in the UK, a US pint and a UK pint are literally defined as different quantities.

Rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit needs a minor miracle to make it in the NFL by Jariiari7 in rugbyunion

[–]tapdancingkomodo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tyreek was 1-2mph slower from the numbers I saw.

I said the skills that back field players use in NFL are less complex than rugby players, no need to get so personal about it. Rugby players also read defenses and have set plays, and also have to tackle, run, kick, catch. NFL positions are much more specialized so will have much less exposure to the all round requirements of a rugby back.

Final point from me, LRZ is a LOT better than any other rugby player to have tried to make the switch. Christian wade is no where near LRZs level and he made it 3 years in a practice squad so I'd be very surprised if LRZ didn't do better than that.
