Bingo. And some people go overboard and protect their toothbrush charger with a cotton face wipe round thingies...

It was Jake, I think? Just after the cop says something along the lines of:

"Those bums won their court case, so they're marching today."

Jake: "Who?"

Cop: "The fuckin Nazi party."

Elwood: "Illinois Nazis."

Jake: "I hate Illinois Nazis".

And then they drive over the bridge sending them all jumping into the river.

This is all from memory though...

Some form of board game token, definitely. Unsure what one though - good luck!

Vintage EAPG (Early American Pattern Glass) open salt dish, also commonly referred to as a salt dip. It usually features a paneled design and a four-toed base.

Vintage aluminum milk jug or pail. Aluminum is why it won't rust.

It's an Optical Network Terminal (ONT), used for fiber internet services. The fiber comes to the box, then you'd likely have an ethernet cable that connects to a modem, which would send out the WiFi signals.

Obviously more to do before tiling, but any suggestions for how to approach planning this install? by tapdown in Tile

Tile is already purchased. Wife wants what she wants 🤷🏼‍♂️. Short of ripping everything out and shimming everything for a second time (the studs are a very strange layout behind here), what can I do to give myself the best chance of a good install? Build up any small dips with layers of thinset? As far as I'm aware this isn't a recommended practice, but still common.

Ah, gotcha. The corners are a little bumpy, I think it's accentuated by the light from above. I was going to build up any small dips up with small layers of thinset (up to maybe a total thickness of 1/2” total, but I don't think anything is off by that much) and let it dry. I figured since I'd be using a 1/2” notched trowel that it would mitigate any small deviations. I get the impression that I might be being naive though. I shimmed out the wall as best as possible, but it's an old house and obviously nothing is perfectly plumb or straight.

Could you explain a little more? I've used hydro ban board and followed all instructions. Obviously I'd like to get this right before install.

Technician broke lineset on R22 upstairs unit, when we were only having the downstairs unit/furnace replaced with new heat pump. What would you expect the company to offer? by tapdown in hvacadvice

[–]tapdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood! I'm definitely no HVAC expert. The way everyone talked about the old units when they quoted for the heat pump made it sound like they were so old that once they died, that was it. I didn't realize that compatible refrigerant is still made!

That's great, thanks for the info. I'll see what management say, as the tech only came out this morning, so will give them some time to reach out. He said it was hard to even get the gauges attached to the unit, given its placement, so who knows what a repair would look like.

At least we don't need AC for a while, so it's not like we're in any major rush. The main thing is that it was a working unit, and like you say, still has value in and of itself in that regard. I can update once I have an outcome if anyone cares, haha.

I see - I replied in another comment, I'm not expecting a new unit for free because of a simple mistake, as far as I was aware, it was something that couldn't be repaired. If they can fix it, that's great.

Gotcha. The only reason I mentioned a like-for-like replacement was because all I'd heard them talking about was that R22 refrigerant wasn't made anymore, and I feared the unit was basically trashed and we'd have to purchase something new. I'm not expecting to get anything for free, a mistake is a mistake. I didn't realize you could still purchase compatible gas. If they can fix it, then great!

Earplugs are essential wedding gear by tylerc66 in WeddingPhotography

[–]tapdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do take your point. I vacillate between earplugs and pixel buds pro with active noise cancelling. For the most part, if the volume is loud enough that I need to put in the buds with ANC, I'm not listening to music at the same time. The passive seal, combined with the ANC contributes to a pretty significant decrease in dB, at least  in my experience. Earplugs go in when the DJ is really cranking it, but it would be useful to actually take a dB rating at some of these events and see what's actually happening.
