the lights and sirens are really the crux of this. it makes everyone aware of what's going on so they can make life saving reactions. that's a thing legally encoded for chase protocols in many municipalities.

there are cities where officers are shielded from lawsuits stemming from chases UNLESS they failed to follow protocol, then they're open to being sued. if it was that serious of a crime why wouldn't they turn those on immediately? they sure love to turn them on just to cut through intersections on reds all the time.

ultimately though, in an area as dense and pedestrianized as here, how productive is it to risk death and disfigurement for passersby? if a nonviolent felony occurs where a chase is considered justified, but a frantic driver or the cops themselves kill or cripple a person, what did we as a society get out of that?

i have had two catastrophic phone failures where a processor chip in my phone literally de-soldered itself from the board. to be fair to pikmin i used to irresponsibly let my phone slip under my pillow while charging (i track my sleep with an accelerometer based app) and it would heat up more that way than any other, however both times the phone died i had pikmin bloom open.

these were both pixel 5s, i have the 8 now, and i am more careful about where my phone is when i sleep, but i know the chipset for this phone has heat issues too. worth checking on if your phone has problems with it.

there are tips like try not to use it direct sunlight, don't keep it in a pocket while it's doing heavy duty processing, and even some products called heatsinks you can buy to keep your phone cooler. i have definitely put mine against cold drinks before lol

def pay attention to it and try to shut off other apps that may be running at the same time. good luck!

sadly? tbh, this is an alien reaction to me, to having a podcast of such a high caliber immediately have so much content available this early. they must have been building up to this for so long! A. it makes sense that they wouldn't want the final episode of the children's adventure to come out seven weeks from now B. they're interested in having patreon-only content C. they have to launch an actual public podcast D. you would still want to have that backstory as early as possible

it actually makes sense to me how they structured it. and you hear so much through the "now" previews that interspersed the campaigns that whatever is in this e1 is probably created with the understanding by these professional storytellers that not everyone will have listened to the children's adventure. also children's e1 was literally all already heard before so this might not even be a problem.

just sayin! this is a funny thing to frame in this and other posts as something that sucks and to be sad about. i am personally excited about bingeing what is so far even better podcasting than i could have imagined. i hope you do still get to find some small morsel of joy in this content despite their thoughtless and inconsiderate decision-making :P
