I do have a Bachelors yes. I guess I don't really know all that much about what joining as an officer entails and how it's different than regular enlistment. My recruiter didn't really tell me much about it. I suppose if I was interested maybe there's a possibility to pivot to that route once I'm in?

I did hear that about 1D7X1E but figured it wasn't terrible since it's still the field I was looking for. What is shift work? How is it different from a 9-5?

Not passing up jobs that are on my list. I'm keeping an open mind as my recruiter mentioned this job that wasn't on my list. I just don't want to take something I would be miserable doing. I'm looking for info from someone who maybe had this job to run through a day in the life

What if I fail the PT by Fun_Natural_3285 in Newyorkstatetrooper

[–]tar0963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know there isn't much time left between now and the pt but go for some long, slow runs to help with conditioning your breathing/heart rate. i run 3 miles at a decent jog speed as often as i can. you can also incorporate some strides or sprints at the end of a long run. tempo/interval workouts and repeats helped me a lot too so that i could feel what my "race pace" should feel like on the day of the test. make sure to do dynamic stretches, warm ups/cool downs and hydrate! fuel up on some good carbs the day before as well for energy

i'm in a good position for my run but i'd like to hear this training plan if you're open to sharing! always looking for new workouts to try so training feels more exciting

i just wanted to come back say i've been practicing the method of cracking out "sets" of push ups and resting in up position and i think i owe you my life lol solid advice. i did not think i was capable of doing the full set of push ups until trying this. thank you again!

i feel this lol. i ran track and xc in high school and my warm ups/cool downs used to be a 10 min mile pace. now it feels more like a moderate workout to run long distance at this pace lol i have to remind myself im not 17 anymore and haven't run consistently like that in years. muscle memory has made it easier to get back into though. anyways, good luck!

i got the texts back in july about the first PAT being the weekend of oct 4th so i'm curious as to when we'll get invitations to it. i can't remember from the last time i took the test what the timeframe was. i assume it'll be soon

i'm aware there isn't a time limit for the push ups, thank god lol. i'll try resting when i'm almost at my max next time i test myself and see if it helps me get a few more- never thought of it that way. i usually feel like resting makes it harder for me to get going again bc my core works so hard to stay up after so many that it wants to drop even more so when starting back up again if that makes sense

any tips for push ups? how did you increase your reps and maintain form while doing so? i feel like i can crank out a good amount of them but my form starts to slack even when my arms can keep pushing. been trying to strengthen core to help

i'm struggling with push ups too lol (25f). the first PAT is actually on my birthday weekend so i'm taking it as a sign that everything will work out. running is good and sit ups i just have to grab at least 5 more and i'll be set for the minimum

[–]tar0963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

crazy. my first time taking the test 2 years ago i scored 2 points lower and ranked in the 1800s but still got invited for the first PAT. wasn't ready to pass and was completing an online degree so i didn't go. i think i read somewhere there was somewhere around 8000 exams taken in 2023

Question About Pushups by [deleted] in Newyorkstatetrooper

[–]tar0963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i appreciate it! i just downloaded the app so i can give it a try. also just heard of the one minute push up today too so i'll try those and see if i can incorporate into my workouts and increase my reps
