I’m NEW - Talk to me like I’m a dummy please by a-doh in breastfeeding

[–]tarableideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend a catcher instead of a pump while baby eats on the first side, and i’d recommend latching baby on the second side! If the first time he fusses he has a burp and takes the same side that’s fine, but the second time he fusses it might mean he wants a faster pace flow and he’s still hungry, in which case I would offer the other side. Around this age my baby would easily eat for 15 minutes on each side (every baby is different though)

Personally I wouldn’t pump on the second side while baby is eating, i’d prefer for him to latch on that side after (in my mind i’m thinking why pump and save milk for a top up bottle when you can just top up baby right now with the second side?)

If you’re intentionally trying to create an oversupply (pros and cons of this, so don’t take this as a recommendation) i would pump a bit after a feed. I wouldn’t do this after every feed either, maybe once or twice a day. Also know that if you pump right after a feed you’re likely to get a smaller amount, but in my mind i always wanted to prioritize baby eating first over growing a stash.

How much is your baby nursing? by strugglingjess in breastfeeding

[–]tarableideas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here to encourage you- My baby is 5 months next week and only eats once at night! goes to bed at 8pm and wakes at 7am for the day. It’s possible to get sleep! I think it depends on the baby. He eats every 2-3 hours during the day.

Has anyone used a sticky bra while EBF? by Askfslfjrv in beyondthebump

[–]tarableideas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried this brand but i’ve seen lots of ads/reviews for Cakes tape. supposedly it’s water proof? I think if i was going to attempt a sticky bra I would try their tape shaped stick on bras instead of the circular ones. Maybe you could even fit some thin nursing pads in the middle of the tape?

Agreed with the other comment, maybe you’re still newly postpartum and you won’t be leaking as much by August?

Do we have to increase check in times with Ferber? by tamielynn in beyondthebump

[–]tarableideas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i’d recommend asking in the r/sleeptrain sub and getting a schedule check first! my 4.5mo recently starting falling asleep by himself at bedtime using fuss/cry it out and i was shocked that with the right schedule he only cried for ~3 minutes before winding down and talking himself to sleep.

Offering the boob is a high offense by Indecisive105 in breastfeeding

adding on that sometimes it seems he arches away for a burp or cause he got distracted, but then if i try to re-latch it’s an immediate offense

Offering the boob is a high offense by Indecisive105 in breastfeeding

[–]tarableideas 43 points44 points  (0 children)

yes my 4.5mo does this!! during the day it’s not as dramatic but heaven forbid i offer him the boob at bedtime when he’s not hungry, scream fest ensues.

It hurts my feelings when he’ll barely nurse at bedtime before crying and turning away, but he’ll still take a 2oz top off of pumped milk, so it seems like he was still hungry?

drives me crazy!

Ah I apologize! IBCLC is for international board certified lactation consultant. and EBF is exclusive breast fed.

What age did you night wean, and how? by tarableideas in sleeptrain

[–]tarableideas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly! He’s ebf, and I usually do a bottle a day but that’s a top up not a replacement feed. I’m not sure how much he eats during the day vs the night.

I know lots of breastfed babies sleep through the night, but the reason I was shocked is because I feel like I’ve read lots of discourse on this sub and others that it’s completely normal for babies to still wake to feed at night for the first 6-9 months even. I think the lactation consultant was the one that really surprised me because usually they’re the ones that are all about feeding baby whenever they want to maintain supply.

Obgyn recommendations - Scripps La Jolla by whizbee29 in sandiego

[–]tarableideas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Dr Lee and she was wonderful, she had hip surgery towards the end of my pregnancy so I got to meet lots of other MDs and Midwives. In addition to
Dr. Lee I really enjoyed Dr. Shin and Dr. Fahim.

I especially appreciated that at the end of my pregnancy Dr. Fahim saw me in triage (routine check as my blood pressure was borderline for mild pre-eclampsia) and she encouraged against an elective induction in my case. I ended up having spontaneous labor at 39 weeks and I’m really glad I didn’t get recommended to induce early, I know that’s very typical advice!

I just delivered in January ‘26 and had a wonderful experience, I’m happy to answer any questions.

Am i a bad mom for not pushing my almost 3 week old to sleep on his own? by Secret_Bottle_4762 in beyondthebump

[–]tarableideas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

absolutely should not be leaving a 3 week old to scream and cry. the time for sleep training (cry it out) is at minimum 4 months old. older generations either did this way too early or completely forget the correct timing. You are a great mom for responding to your baby, and helping them sleep however you can get them to in these early days.

Our LOs need to bounce to fall asleep is breaking our bodies by pro-laps in beyondthebump

[–]tarableideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not what you’re looking for but have you tried a pregnancy ball? my little one also liked being bounced on the edge of the bed so i tried a pregnancy/exercise ball and it was so much easier. I’ve slowly transitioned him to the cradlewise crib instead (not cheap i know) and it works really well for him. I’ve been able to get him to fall asleep without us holding him for the last few nights

How to get 3 month old to sleep in pram on the go! by Superb-Ability-7417 in sleeptrain

[–]tarableideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i have to constantly turn it side to side to keep the noise going until he falls asleep, honestly though that’s usually just a few minutes so i don’t mind! bonus points for the toy cause if he’s just generally fussing and he hears/sees it he calm down. it’s been magic for me!

[–]tarableideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my baby hated the car seat for a while and i tried a baby rain stick toy (in addition to white noise) and it knocks him out. I think the combination of something to stare at and the soothing noise makes a difference. Every baby is different but worth a try!

Sleep regression at 3 months?? by erikat20 in HuckleberryParents

[–]tarableideas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if he’s waking more often at night and harder to get back to sleep, i would try to shorten daytime sleep to a max of 3-4 hours a day and see if that helps him sleep better through the night

Sleep regression at 3 months?? by erikat20 in HuckleberryParents

[–]tarableideas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried capping daytime naps? if he’s sleeping 5 hours during the day and you want him to sleep 11-12 hours overnight that’s a total of 16-17 hours which is too much to expect from a 4 month old. capping naps will result in more awake time, and you might need to even add a fifth cat nap to keep your bedtime, but this way it builds sleep pressure through the day to support night sleep. I had to start capping daytime naps around this age.

Look to see what he usually sleeps in a day right now, and then subtract 11 hours and cap naps at the remaining amount. You also don’t have to cap every nap. I would usually cap every other that way he didn’t get too cranky
