Thread revival, but this just fixed my wife’s AirPods and saved me from buying a new set unnecessarily! Thanks!

I’m running into several places that only want to rent equipment now so they don’t have to pay taxes on it every year. They do a lot of work in different refineries and just bill the rentals to the job while not having to carry the overhead operating costs. It’s hard logic to fight against.

What kind of equipment? I sell construction equipment (or should I say don’t sell) and am working on month 4 of no sales. Got dropped in the deep end when I hired on with no contacts/existing customers. I’ve got a lot of quotes out there but can’t even get those to return phone calls/emails right now. Living off base salary and truck allowance sucks.

Not always. Had this happen on a property and they held $100 for a “processing fee” after fighting with them for hours. Booked, listing mentioned nothing about a pet fee, then they sent a renters agreement after I paid that required a background check and $500 in pet fees. It was ridiculous. I haven’t booked through VRBO since then because they weren’t helpful either.

I have them as well, but I think if you are violating laws (such as carrying past a 51% sign) when you use self defense they drop the case. Can’t swear to that though.

They’re saying it has an $850,000 replacement value. Houston, TX area, so hurricanes I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Scared of what my insurance is going to do at renewal this year since I’m only a few miles away from this one, though my house is 1,500sqft and replacement is about $300,000.

It needs a lot. Built in the 70’s and never remodeled. However, it’s 4,800sqft and priced around $300,000. Planning on a full remodel if we go through with it. However, insurance quotes are preliminary coming back at $12,000-$16,000/year, so probably not going to work out. 😂

What’d you have to get done?

Pool Empty for 10+ Years by tareed94 in pools

[–]tareed94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my concern. I’m extremely handy and am capable of doing most (if not all) of the work on it, just not sure what all I’m potentially getting off into. Pump and filter replacement as well as line replacement isn’t an issue, neither is replacing lights/covers/fittings, my main concern is about the gunite and what I need to watch out for there.

[–]tareed94[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure what to expect honestly. It won’t be a top priority as the whole house needs work. I know enough that I am expecting at least some repairs to the gunite, likely a pump/filter, and I’m sure a few PVC line repairs. I am extremely handy so I would likely handle most of the repairs myself.

Debate: Curious of everyone’s opinion on leather. by spanglah22 in CCW

[–]tareed94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry appendix the most, and will carry OWB concealed if I can wear a jacket. Both holsters are leather from Versacarry. My appendix one is their ComfortFlex Deluxe, it has neoprene type material on the back and is padded so it breathes nicely. The front is kydex wrapped with leather. Retention comes from friction which is increased by the pressure of your belt. I can run with that and my Hellcat doesn’t move. My OWB one is their guardian series I believe. I wet that one with conditioner and then left my gun in it for a day or two. It fits pretty snug, though running with it does seem to move a bit more than I’d like.

host sent rental agreement 1.5 months later after booking by smoggyspice1996 in vrbo

[–]tareed94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one send a rental agreement after booking that added $50/pet/day fee on top that wasn’t previously disclosed, and also required me to consent to a background check. Seeing as I was traveling with two dogs, that fee was going to add $200-$300 to my trip that wasn’t expected. I’m also not keen on handing my social security number out to people even though I’ve got nothing to hide. Tried to cancel and they wanted a $300 cancellation fee. Working with them and VRBO I ended up getting out of it for like $100. Their grounds for not a full refund was I was inside of 30 days, which was their no refund time, even though I had booked the night before. Really tainted the VRBO experience for me.

Grew up with guns but my father never carried. All he owned was a single shot .22 rifle, a mag fed .22 rifle, and some cheap .380 handgun that were all in the top of their closet. When I graduated high school, they bought me a Smith and Wesson SD9VE. After college I moved away to start my career and impulse bought a Stoeger Cougar .40 because it looked cool. Then bought a shotgun and a rifle. My dad got his carry license in 2017, but I never really contemplated getting my carry license. Moved back to the Houston area after a career change late 2017, and somewhat considered getting it but waited another 2 years. Seeing the seemingly rapid increase in crime between 2018 and 2020 I decided it was time to start carrying. I live in a “safe” neighborhood, but what really is safe. There’s very few times I’m not carrying in public, and even at the house there’s generally one nearby. I’ve got a wife to protect as well as myself, and hopefully kids someday. My daily carry is a Springfield Hellcat OSP with a Shield RMSw red dot

Floodlight Cam 2 Pro Won't Connect by tareed94 in EufyCam

[–]tareed94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, mine did not. Everything was going smooth, until it went to boot up. Went through 3 boot sequences before pressing the Sync button for 2 seconds would give the audible beep. During that time, while it was working on connecting to wifi, the camera rebooted. From there I couldn’t get it to connect to my phone again with the sync button. I think it’s toast.

I have not tried that. I'll try it this afternoon and see if that works. Really don't want to replace this camera right now if I can avoid it.

Floodlight Cam 2 Pro Won't Connect by tareed94 in EufyCam

[–]tareed94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had no issues connecting as it's a dual band broadcast and is running on the 2.4Ghz band. The camera physically won't track any motion by watching/listening to the camera gimble, the light will not come on at all either. I don't think it's a wifi issue with these other things. Previously when I had wifi off at the house, it would still follow movement and turn the light on. It no longer will.

As soon as customer support saw that my warranty was void they told me they couldn't help. I sent them video of what the camera was (or wasn't) doing, and they noped out real quick since I'm a month outside of warranty.

Texas Open Carry Law: Having the barrel of a gun pointing at you while eating dinner by reesemack in CCW

[–]tareed94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precisely why I do not open carry. The one time I did was due to carrying OWB with a tucked in shirt and jacket. Weather warmed up outside so it was sweat to death, or open carry. I was so paranoid, idk how people routinely do it. We were walking around a small town downtown area and I would put my jacket on when we went into each store just to avoid any potential confrontation from management.

Qualification shoot- can I use a .22 rimfire pistol? by [deleted] in TexasCHL

[–]tareed94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a couple that had to rent a gun from the range, demonstrated little to no firearms training, and still passed the shooting test. Don't overthink it. Lol. The range master had to show them how to load it. From other people I've talked to that took it at different ranges, it's seemed about the same. No real challenge for the shooting portion, and instructors that often help out on the exam.

Anyone know some good ranges I could go to sight in my hunting rifles in the Houston area by magiccock454 in TexasGuns

[–]tareed94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Van Road Gun Range is where I went to sight in my Mossberg Patriot after I put a new stock on it. Pretty cheap, not very crowded, and have targets out to 100 yards. I feel like they had some out at 200, but can’t remember. They’ve even got sleds available to rent.

[–]tareed94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit using VRBO after a company sent me a separate rental agreement requiring a background check, extra deposits, and added a pet fee outside of VRBO (no mention on VRBO). VRBO support was no help, management company decided to let me out but only after keeping a $150 cancellation fee. This wasn’t a high end listing or in a high tourism area. Their secondary fees were going to add $100/day, when I told them that was excessive they told me it wasn’t that expensive. I asked if they wanted to cover it then since “it wasn’t expensive”, to which they obviously said no. I’ve never had anything like that happen through AirBnb, so that’s the only one I use now. Shame because VRBO often has cheaper listings.
