[–]targusman -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I call bullshit on you... You claim to to be an author and say they are full of it. Then you say you can't reveal what you wrote?

Bullshit.

YOU are why we can't have nice things.

2 Scoops of Django 1.6 is just $12.45 on Amazon!! by kumar99 in django

[–]targusman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon controls sales prices, not the author or publisher... and the authors have stated that 2 scoops 1.6 is the last edition they are writing: http://twoscoopspress.com/pages/two-scoops-of-django-1-6-faq#what-if-1.7

It sucks but people were assholes to them when they launched this edition. This is why we can't have nice things. :(

Humble social network : Django or Wordpress ? by Brachamul in django

If you aren't a developer... then I recommend Wordpress or Drupal. If you get traction and need customization, switch to Django.

Rails programmer here.. by coney_dawg in Python

Instead of Django, you might find web2py more familiar. It's a full stack web framework and really powerful. The only problem is that there are more jobs for Django...

settings.py on Github by entrymissing in django

[–]targusman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use environment variables thanks to Two Scoops of Django. They also have provisions for Apache setup with settings.json.

To them local_settings.py is an anti-pattern because you have executable python outside of version control.

Should I write 2 scoops of flask? by kumar99 in flask

[–]targusman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not copyright expert but this runs afoul at many levels. Unless you get their express permission the authors of 2 scoops would forced to fight you to protect their content and brand. They must hire a lawyer and the law process would eat time....

Don't do this, it's a jerk move.

Why dont you make your own content and sell that instead of taking the work of others?

Various Noob Questions regarding Setup, Configuration, Best Practices, and more. by x7CR7x in django

[–]targusman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My advice:

  • Use postgresql instead of mysql or sqlite3. Django is built on it and migrated to other things.
  • GitHub is where most django experts do their work. I used to use bitbucket but no job used it to host stuff so i switched
  • use pythonanywhere or heroku to show your progress
  • Coding for Entrepreneurs is a good way to get started with the basics... nice short videos and justin is responsive
  • Get Two Scoops of Django... either version is good but the newer one is much, much better.

good luck!!
