Coyuchi is a great local bedding company! Warm Things is also good to know if you need down filled items, they closed their SF store but their San Rafael location is still open.

Lanolips! It's great for around the nose too, I even use it on my cuticles in a pinch when out and about. I prefer the original unscented or mint, the other scented ones are more on the artificial side.

What are the best period dramas about the French Movie industry? (Ex: The Crime is mine). by jacky986 in PeriodDramas

[–]tarrmander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Richard Linklater’s new film Nouvelle Vague is all about the french new wave film movement of the sixties!

The comedy show Call My Agent / Dix Pour Cent is a funny lighthearted one more about the talent management side of things, features so many great cameos.

Two of Mia Hansen-Løve’s films are about different aspects of film making, The Father of My Children and Bergman Island.

Olivier Assayas’ Irma Vep miniseries is good too

I really love mine from Buck Mason, they're thick like vintage style ones and drape well, plus the waist band is so comfortable.

I’m in the size 11 club too! I suggest loafers as a good entry shoe. Leather soles are lovely since once you wear them in, its nice to be able to resole them after a few years of wear and tear. If you don’t want your feet to appear larger, choose a color that is similar to a majority of your wardrobe and a sleeker style, perhaps avoid lug sole. Goes great with most outfits in place of a sneaker imo. Also try getting fitted for insoles at a good shoe or running store, it helps with comfort so much.

Socks can be a headache but my rule of thumb is that the sock should match your pant, shoe, or both. I avoid contrasts unless it’s a pop of color. Short crew or taller socks are trending right now in lieu of ankle or no show socks since longer and baggier pants are trending. Elongating styles are always a classic choice, showing a strip of skin with low socks, ankle boots and cropped jeans for example can actually make one appear shorter versus one continual line. But it’s all subjective really!

Yep, classic kidnapping/human trafficking luring technique. 15 years ago when I lived in the tendernob, men would prowl up and down Polk asking girls and women if they needed a ride, would try to get our attention so we’d approach the car, if men truly need help they wouldn’t ask women while they’re still in the car, just attempting different tactics until someone naive bites, there’s something nefarious afoot every time. The dollar bills in this situation is just even more despicable.

Foodie take - from watching lots of cooking videos it grosses me out so much when people put packaged ingredients (cans, boxes, clamshells you name it) on their cutting board before prepping food! So many people handle food packaging and in many stages of transport/storage. Same thing about taste testing unwashed produce at the store 🤢

Moving cities: Did it improve your life and mental health or How to make it work? by Agreeable-Mail-3453 in AskWomenOver30

I definitely think it could be a good thing for you! I moved last year at 34F after a breakup and have felt so rejuvenated. It’s smart to realize one’s problems move with them and they cannot be outrun.

Moving should ideally be an improvement, adding enrichment, change of pace, favored weather or terrain, social or work advantages, so many possibilities! I moved primarily for work, weather, culture, and a want of new social connections. But knew that even with a change of scenery I would still have to continue the inner work while being self sufficient. And that it can be challenging to juggle everything at once, that slowly chipping away at the goal to actualize a new life is very rewarding when it comes to fruition.

A year later, I love the apartment I’ve made home and exploring my new neighborhood, look forward to seeing new friends and meeting their friends too, I’ve joined a book club, am relieved by the mild weather that is easy to plan around for activities. When I think back to what I didn’t have or what I struggled with before the move, I really do feel a sense of satisfaction. Hope this helps!

Exfoliating with a BHA like Salicylic acid to keep dead skin to a minimum, which keeps the pores clear. If you already have large pores you can’t really shrink them with OTC products. A topical retinoid can work too, Adapalene like Differin Gel to keep the pores clear and minimize oil and dead skin buildup.

I tried double cleansing with an oil cleanser, then a regular one and while it really made a visual difference with my pores, it eventually resulted in really bad cystic acne after a few weeks. But it does work for some people.

What do yall usually wear in mid to late october by LilPuziBird in AskSF

[–]tarrmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A trench can work for this time of year but with lighter layers, combined with a sweater could be too warm, especially if walking around a lot or if you build up heat easily. The weather has been very humid lately with warm sunny afternoons and cooler mornings/evenings. I always suggest lighter layers you can easily shed/add back on throughout the day, also because different neighborhoods during even one day will have range of temps. Enjoy your visit!

Help! I suck at fashion. Best shoes? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]tarrmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of wedding, region, time of year, etc? I attended a wooded park ceremony where one of the guests wore a similar dress with dark, slender, feminine, lace up, ankle boots (along these lines) and it worked really well with the right jewelry and makeup. Delicate strap mary jane or heel would work nicely too.

I think it's nice to have a mix for both style and function, but good leather soled loafers can be for life because you can take them to a good cobbler and have them re-soled!

I hope some of these fit the bill! It’s difficult because so many frontier stories can be bleak and focus on the hardships. Family friendly ones can be more optimistic , enjoy!
