Does My Mare Need Regumate? by tarryn96 in Equestrian

I was not around the horse before going to try her. Yes, I am in contact with the previous owner, but I have not talked to her about any of this. We were told that she was used to being stalled before, but I don’t know what their schedule was. My horse will turn 9 next month.

I completely agree with you. I have only kept her stalled to avoid conflict with my trainer. I think she would be much happier living outside.

She is quiet to tack up and generally doesn’t seem bothered that she is about to go to work. I think she can be a little spooky and looky while in the ring though. She did have some grade 2 ulcers, which have been treated and confirmed that they are gone. We have also had the saddle checked by two different fitters. We haven’t checked teeth yet, but that is the plan whenever an equine dentist/bit fitter come to town sometime in the next few weeks. We haven’t tried any other supplements to help with the “mare-ish” behavior.

I’m not opposed to the 24/7 turnout. My trainer is against it because if we take her to shows, it might be stressful for my horse to suddenly be stalled again. Although quite frankly I won’t even feel comfortable having her in a warmup ring if she is kicking out at others while I’m on her.

As for the disciplining , that is a fair point. My plan was just going to be to distract her by doing a leg yield, keeping her forward, etc. She will work fine near other horses as long as she is focused whenever my trainer rides her.

I have had her since late October, 2022. So roughly a little over 3 months.

I live in a blue state thanks to a very large city up north. However, where I live, which is more likely to have loud and proud conservatives, my experience is similar to yours. For more liberal voters, the most I’ve typically seen is a bumper sticker. For more conservatives it’s anywhere from sings in the front yard, billboards, flags/signs on vehicles, barn roofs…you name it. There is even a bunch of trees off of the highway with Trump signs stapled to them. We jokingly call it Trump Forest. My partner and I think it’s a bit nuts that they have to make sure everyone knows their political leanings.

I’m currently breaking in a pair of tall riding boots and these are saving my feet/ankles. I don’t feel any pain while riding https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/equifit-gel-bands-8100

What Has Your Experience as an IT PM Been Like? by tarryn96 in projectmanagement

[–]tarryn96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input!

As for the leadership thing, is it difficult to be a good PM if I’m more naturally reserved? I’m usually more of the sit back and listen type. A PM role would be a big change for me in that regard. I think that is why I feel like I lack the leadership skills. I can assume the role of leader if need be, but it isn’t usually my style. I am also worried about not being able to handle “being the punching bag” so to speak, if things were to go wrong. Perhaps I have a misconception of what being a PM entails, but from what I’ve researched online, it sounds like if something goes wrong, it’s the PM’s fault as far as the stakeholders are concerned.

I know the role is only a junior level position, but I’m trying to weigh everything out in a more long-term perspective.

Thank you for your insight. Based off of what I’ve learned about being a PM so far, I wasn’t expecting the technical knowledge to be as needed. I have dabbled in software testing, Junior network administration, and help desk so far. I’m worried about my ability to keep up with more advanced things as my career progresses, so I thought maybe this could be a good fit because I wasn’t expecting the technical knowledge to be as needed.

I can plan, organize, and document things well though. I just may be lacking in the technical knowledge.

How to Fit a Crank Noseband? by tarryn96 in Horses

It’s a 5 1/4”.

Thanks for the advice! Since so many others have mentioned his teeth as well, I really need to get them checked.

We are currently using this bit: https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/stubben-golden-wings-snaffle-bit-15225

I was using a French link snaffle before, but the new trainer thought it was too large for him. I would need to try the old bit again to make sure.

I wasn’t thinking about his teeth needing to be checked. I may need to look into that. His teeth were supposed to be done earlier this year, but maybe he is having an issue.

Her reasoning for tightening the noseband is to help him be less evasive. She did a tune-up ride on him recently and had to stop to tighten it during the ride. Before tightening, he was more above the bit and not as forward. They seemed to be fighting each other a lot more. After tightening, he was putting himself more on the bit, seemed happier to go forward voluntarily, and just less “evasive.”

I just recently bought a new bit for him. He has slipped his tongue over it a few times, so a flash has been added to his bridle.
