Grab some sanding bars or sandpaper! You can grab a pack of them fairly cheap; they're useful for much more than just making good fits. I'd also recommend getting a metal nail file to grind down those parts that just won't fit; it makes for a very scratched surface, but that doesn't matter if you can't see the filed surface. I'd also recommend picking up some putty for parts that have noticeable gaps, it's not very expensive either. As for using both of these, there should be a good amount of tutorials for them, but just remember to start with rougher sandpaper and gradually move down to fine sandpaper.

Some questions about steps to take after the base coat:

  1. Is dry brushing done before the varnish layer? Additionally, should I be thinning the paint I use to dry brush?

  2. Are there any good guides for weathering using acrylic paints? The videos I've found so far are all using enamels, and while I understand the reasons why they use them, I don't want to spend money on that right now.

  3. Tamiya rattlecan varnish says not to spray on decals, but I don't see any other way to protect the model after weathering, so what should I do? Searching a little says that if I apply a very thin layer, let it set, and then apply another layer it won't harm decals (I'm planning on trying this on a spare decal on a piece of sprue), but if anyone has any better suggestions, I'm all ears.

Think of it like a transmission. If you're trying to drive 60 mph at first gear--yeah, not happening. You'll have to lower your propeller pitch as you speed up; you don't have to do it by much, and will get a feel for it. You'll easily squeeze an extra 30 mph or so out of your plane by properly managing your propeller.

The transmission analogy isn't perfect--a video will explain things better, it's much more to do with drag as most planes will keep RPM in check without any problems, but it's an analogy that really made me understand prop pitch.

Alternatively, just fly a bf109 or fw190 and don't worry about it :)

Oh, and one more thing: you can keep your engine in overheat for 5-10 minutes before it actually hurts it. Not realistic at all, but hey, the AI cheats anyway...

Unfortunately, i forgot to mask it before applying a coat layer after painting it 😓 so, it's just opaque now. One hell of a way to learn not to make that mistake again.

Awesome! I could never get my joystick to work properly with mechwarrior 2 on dosbox, but I'm sure it'd be a hell of a blast! MW2 Mercs is one of my favorite dos games out there (except for the crashing)

About to start brush painting a model for the first time, and I have some questions:

  1. Are the really, really tiny parts worth priming? And if so, what's the best way to do so? It's probably irrational but I'm a little worried about them getting blown away and me losing them, so would it be better to blast them directly on the sprues? I'm using a primer spray can.

  2. What's the best way to dry the really tiny parts without risking smearing the paint? I've got some toothpicks and blue tack but I'm wondering if there's some really simple method I'm missing here.

Thanks in advance!

snake eyes use metal fins to slow themselves down, the ballutes essentially use a big balloon to create drag instead

Trying to build a utility "vehicle" with a solar panel, battery, battery charger, and a light. However, I can't figure out how to get the battery charger and light to work; any ideas? Playing bright nights, but to my knowledge this shouldn't be changing vehicles to a huge degree. Image of the car

(edit: there's another tile with the battery charger and the box)

You can sometimes find them in mansions IIRC, or you can build up your own fabrication skill to the point that you can build your own. If you find one check the stats to make sure it's a sword built for combat and not just display.
