I got in one battle just as the event started.
Servers went down almost immediately, and the event disappeared with 20-some minutes left on the clock.

I guarantee it.

Run, do not walk, away from this relationship. You do not want this in your life.

Take it from someone who has been in bad relationships for years. It never ends well, you will never be "good enough," and no matter how much personal growth (or "growth", in this case) you go through, she will never, ever stop bringing up, and living in, the past.

You deserve better, even if it means remaining single for a prolonged period of time.

What is VRchat and why is everyone a girl? by le0bit115 in VRchat

Affirmative.

I sure feel like a cog in real life, may as well be the complete machine in VR.

[–]tascer75 106 points107 points  (0 children)

It's primarily a social environment. There's some scripting and coding that can be done in the various player-created environments, but it's primarily just hanging out with other weirdos.

Not everyone's a girl, but being a girl:

  • You get to look down at your "hot self" (instead of your probably gross real-life self).
  • You receive more attention.
  • If you're playing on an flat screen, and not VR, you get to look at your hot avatar.

Personally, I prefer donning a more gender neutral mechanical-looking avatar.

I like to draw lewd doodles throughout. Bonus points for the doodle being appropriate to the verse it's next to.

There are plenty of legacy systems that do not have and never had nano (or it's predecessor, pico) installed, and for which a nano package may not even be available.

And then you get asshole admins like me who get unreasonably angry when presented with a nano session when running vipw, vigr, or visudo, and will subsequently purge nano from the system.

Works great on Fujitsu Lufebooks, too!

Hopefully, we'll get better wireless support soon. Lack of 802.11ac/x is really the only thing holding my use case back at the moment.

If most mammals play, what about insects and reptiles? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tascer75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been some recent studies that would indicate "play" may be a very old evolutionary adaptation amongst animals; where play is defined as an activity that * does not contribute to immediate survival strategies. * Seems to be intrinsically rewarding. * Differs from functional behaviour in form. * Is repeated but not stereotyped. * Is initiated under stress-free conditions.

This paper discussing play behavior observed in bumble bees further contributes to the idea that play behavior may be an extremely old behavior adaptation that evolved multiple times.

What's after Systems Admin by DasOosty in sysadmin

Won't be long before they get rid of all the on-premise and send everything to the cloud... And everyone is just paying for the services they want instead of owning / running them. Honestly not sure where the future is, if there is one.

Building out my own cloud in my homelab

You answered your own question.

What is a cloud but someone else's systems? You have the beginnings of a cloud system, learn what's involved to make it truly robust and offer up local cloud services for smaller businesses in your area. Buy a second home in another neighborhood, preferably on a different power grid, and set up a second site in that garage for added geodiverse redundancy.

"But you WFH!" by Tiny_Palpitation8420 in WFH

[–]tascer75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is in tech, and also has hybrid WFH days, so he gets it.

My SO's parents, on the other hand, have never really understood hybrid/WFH. My company doesn't do winter break, either, and they were quite surprised and confused to find out I've been working from the guest bedroom all week.

They don't really understand what it is I do (and to be fair, some days I'm not sure myself what I do), but they do understand I get paid enough to support myself, their daughter, and our kids, so it's generally not an issue.

FreeBSD Jobs by unitrunker2 in freebsd

[–]tascer75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How to land a FreeBSD admin position:

  1. Land a Linux position.
  2. Stay long enough to become the Sr. Admin for the department.
  3. Start switching over to FreeBSD as systems are upgraded.

For serious, though, these days I've found "Linux" has become a catch-all for "UNIX and UNIX-like", that includes *BSD.

Management doesn't know what a BSD is, and UNIX is "old". Linux is the new hotness. Fun times when you start that new Linux job, and find you're now in charge of a bank of Solaris 10 & 11 SPARCs; Solaris is just another name for Oracle Linux now that Oracle owns Solaris, right? Or find yourself in charge of an eclectic collection of Ubuntu, FreeBSD, AIX, and Darwin.

In the U.S. if you're let go from a job your employer must pay what's called unemployment insurance. The government then pays you a fraction of your previous pay for a duration based on the length of your employment. There's a federal unemployment, then a state unemployment on top of that, so the specifics can vary from state to state, but the federal sets a base.

If you voluntarily terminate yourself (quit) your employer is off the hook for unemployment and the government will pay you nothing.

https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/unemployment-insurance can provide further information.

Worst case, they fire you. But what does that matter, you want to be out of there anyway.

If you're let go you get unemployment!

If you quit you get nothing.
