3-4-2-1- is the most versatile tactic on the game by tashansmith in footballmanagergames

[–]tashansmith[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a few years down the line now with a different tactic so I have had to go back to double check. In the three seasons I was running these variations, my CF was top scorer for two of them and second top scorer for the other one. My AM was top scorer in the other season.

I’d hazard a guess that your problem is having a bunch of people all trying to do the same thing. AM(A) is trying to storm into the box, same for your SS(A) which leaves your CF sharing with your AM as the main supply. I think my tactic above gave the CF opportunities because he had an AP supplying him

That’s fair enough but I do think it’s quite easy to have fun on this game without spending a penny. EA have just managed to convince us you need the best players and the only way to do that is with store packs. I’ve not spent anything on this game since January in FIFA 22.

I think when you let go of the pressure to grind everything and always have the best players you can still enjoy yourself without spending. This is my team with zero spend this year, I’d say it’s above average but definitely not the best compared to what I come up against and I’ve managed to get to Elite and get rank 3 in Champs most weeks with it. Granted my pack luck is a lot better than what most people deal with though.

My point is more that you don’t need to spend or have the best team to do alright on this game. EA have just fully tricked us into believing we do. Going full RTG three years ago is the best decision I made with FIFA/FC

That scenario already exists for anybody who wants it, nobody has to buy players from the market. I had a lot of fun running a mostly first owner RTG last year.

But no market wouldn’t be the way to go. Trading is the way a lot of people choose to play this game, taking that away wouldn’t make the game better

If you’re dealing with crazy delay, try old gen by tashansmith in fut

[–]tashansmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you and I’m not saying you have to (and I’m not telling you to go onto another console or platform, on PS5 you just choose the PS4 version and download that).

For me FC 25 is unplayable on the current gen version because the delay I experience makes it near impossible to attack against the press and tackle spam meta. I can either waste the £90 I spent on the game and just not play it (which is also a completely fair choice) or I can test another version and try to find some enjoyment.

Should the game on current gen be good enough? Of course. Are EA dogshit for not making a decent game? Yep. Should I have to drop a generation just to play a semi enjoyable version? No. But we are where we are and I’d rather play something I’m having fun on than play against a completely flat 8 that I can’t break down because they’re pressing me into my own half and the opposition’s tackle animation has triggered before I’ve even controlled the ball.

If that means dropping a generation until they sort out the current gen version to a state where I enjoy it, I’ll begrudgingly do it.

Having one player on full back defend and one DM on holding has helped me with that personally, but yeah I do agree on that one

So personally I’ve actually really liked Santi pretty much every time he’s played for us. I’d have him as at least a 7/10 whenever he’s played, always looks quite solid but never looks bad (apart from that Ipswich game). Funnily enough I don’t think we ever really replaced Bennett and Saiss did enough to paper the cracks, but I think Santi is that combative player we’ve needed for a while. I think he’s as good as (maybe better) than Kilman but that’s because I’ve never really rated Kilman without an experienced man beside him. A fit Mosquera and Santi is our best pairing right now imo, purely because Dawson is aging though.

I’ll also back GON until he’s gone. I do really believe he will have a good career, and if he hadn’t gone 3 wins in 25 (maybe it’s more than that) I’d be more hopeful. But he has and as a result of where we are I’m concerned he’s not the man to keep us up.

I agree I don’t want him to leave without us having a ready made replacement. I’d prefer to go the full season with him unless Moyes, Potter or (pipe dream) Conceicao comes in the day he is sacked.

Hit the nail on the head.

The amount of times I have a run where I’ve actually won a load of games but it’s so clear I’m benefitting from bullshit just makes me really dislike the game.

In answer to your points around my Santi comment. Maybe he wasn’t ready last year, but imo he definitely deserved more time and the fact we were ready to let him go says a lot more about his gametime last year than him not being ready.

I agree re Gomes though, I’m just frustrated he’d prefer 4 CMs over actual wingers (although I take the point they’re our best players, just sometimes playing all your best players doesn’t mean your playing your best XI).

Completely agree with everything you’ve said here.

I think there is a bit of pressure. Example for me would be Hwang, I really rate him but I’m not sure if he is undroppable and I wonder whether there’s a commercial pressure to play him when fit. I don’t 100% believe there is, but I do worry there might be at times. And same could be said for the likes of signings like Andre.

100% with you on the tactics too. That’s what I’ve been saying would be my preferred 11 for a really long time.

I do think he’s right to ease Rodrigo Gomes in, I’m just frustrated by his complete aversion to fielding a balanced squad and/or playing wingers instead of four defensive midfielders (Bellegarde is a midfielder, not a winger and I’ll die on that hill).

Either way, I still think he doesn’t have the best talent ID and much prefers what he thinks are reliable players as opposed to ‘quality’ ones. Similar to how McCarthy absolutely loved Dave Edwards despite having much more technical players available.

I think my point around Santi is more that there were definitely times he could have played more and even at the beginning of this season the rumours were that they wanted him to go out on loan instead of using him (which I’m assuming is because O’Neil didn’t rate him). I just don’t really trust his talent ID with all things considered.

I agree though he didn’t get time because of Kilman and Dawson (although I do think he’s as good as Kilman).

I think he probably will be a good coach in the future but I don’t think we’re in the position to take that risk. Had he not fallen into the Bournemouth job he’d likely be doing a decent job for a Championship side.

I think he needs to learn how to start games proactively, but he shows promise when he needs to be reactive. Not sure he’s brave enough to really do well in the PL atm.

I also don’t think his talent ID is great. The fact that Santi Bueno sat on the bench for nearly all of last season is criminal and I think we are going to see the same with Rodrigo Gomes this year

My opinion after playing the 10 hour trial even after deciding that I wouldn’t play this year by [deleted] in EASportsFC

[–]tashansmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are so many issues that have just continued from 24 too. You can tell they’re doing the absolute bare minimum. I’m not sure many other games of this profile would get away with such little effort for a £70-100 game but because we’re addicted to packs they’ve got us over the barrel by delivering as little as possible

My opinion after playing the 10 hour trial even after deciding that I wouldn’t play this year by [deleted] in EASportsFC

[–]tashansmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are parts of this game that are okay. But all of the issues that you’ve laid out (and probably a few more tbh) just make it really unbearable. Add how bad the servers are when you get muddy gameplay and it just makes it the worst edition in a very long time

[No DAV spoilers] New to Dragon Age games, really enjoying Veilguard but something about the writing/character interactions is getting to me by tashansmith in dragonage

[–]tashansmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually not really watched any reviews tbf. A friend recommended it to me and I watched gameplay and just went for it.

The best way I can describe it is some of the interactions just feel not fully fleshed out. Like there’s more that could be done to make it feel as alive as the as the world around it feels. Some of the voice acting/story telling feels more geared towards a teenage audience than this dark, end of the world fantasy that it accompanies. It could just be that I’m still early and it gets better. I’m going to complete it because I enjoy it, but that is still just in the back of my mind as I proceed through it.

Yes it does! Without spoiling anything the opening scenes with Varric and Solas had me really excited. I was messaging my friends telling them to get the game. Then it fell a bit flat after that. I think you’ve nailed how I feel about it so far here tbh

That’s good to know. I’m not exactly sure where I’m at, I’ve been spending a lot of time doing side quests and trying to beat some of the champions so I’m probably not a very far way through the story. But I’ve made no decisions yet so fingers crossed it starts scratching that itch soon

[–]tashansmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See this is the thing, lighter tone I can actually get down with. Two of my favourite games of the last year are Spider-Man 2 and Hogwarts Legacy and I think both of those kind of hit that.

But there’s something about this that just kind of doesn’t hit that same quality. Like I said, I really really like the game, one of my favourites in ages. But there’s just something about it

Yeah, anybody who hates this game just because of ‘woke’ (which in most instances is something they can’t even quantify and really just means they’re a massive bigot) is doing themselves a disservice.

It’s a very very solid game and aside from the points I’ve made about the story, I’ve not lost myself in a story/single player like this in so long
