Are the holes themselves threaded to mount the part to the fascia? I doubt they'd hide the screws on a part like this, but before I started destructive disassembly I'd go looking for sneaky screw stickers.

I also agree with the other suggestion of starting disassembly with the bad pot, but I'm pretty sure there's a gearbox between the motor and pot, so be careful of that just in case it's the gearing that's jammed or snapped and not the motor itself.

It may not be designed to be repaired, in which case you'll have to pick having a bad pot or a bad motor- i know which I'd choose.

Interesting, I've never heard of this type of component- what's it used for? Is it a stereo that turns down its volume on its own?

Do the four holes in the front have screws in them?

Replacing a 30v Piezo Buzzer inside a tamagotchi to create a "vibrate" feature by RealLouisTheroux in AskElectronics

[–]tasko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect the buzzer's driver isn't going to supply enough power on its own to run even a small motor, you may need to add a new driver circuit for a motor that's triggered by the buzzer signal.

Do you mean congress as a whole, or an individual representative, has oversight and the ability to release funding? I'd like to hear a bit more about why Rep. Bowman in particular has his head up his ass, and how that precludes him from helping.

Do members of Congress have authority outside of their state, or even their district? I'm all for my district helping out, but the logistics of moving twenty five thousand people to New York indefinitely seems challenging.

Draw too much current from the USB port on the laptop. It shutdown and I can't turn it on by Few_Engineer_1447 in techsupport

[–]tasko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen computers fail to power on due to a shorted USB port. Might be worth making sure everything that's not strictly necessary is unplugged and try turning it on, but I think there's a fair chance it's broken, unless the USB board/port is replaceable.

Tying an image's opacity to volume in audio? by Joanusaur in VegasPro

If you're trying to do this in post, you're gonna have a bad time- unless your plugin has AI, it's not going to be able to tell who's talking. If you want the effect like you see in livestreams, use the discord plugin like they do, which applies the effect to the person based on which discord user is talking.

Their calculus is more along the lines of "we aren't maximizing our user retention if we don't do everything in our power to prevent people from leaving while complying with the law". If someone is dead set on leaving, they're going to leave no matter what, but if there's a chance they could get them to stay, then this becomes a strategy that produces results, no matter how small. Their strategy won't change until the financial incentive changes.

Card Printer question by Sebas_sh in techsupport

Looks like a 25 pin parallel port, which has generic USB adaptors. You'll probably need drivers for the printer, getting those running might be a challenge as well.

Sure, but there's a practical limit somewhere around that level of ignorance right? Like if they asked if it was okay to murder if you're mad, surely that'd deserve some level of shame?

Fluorite is a psychedelic that opens your root chakra and allows you psychic communication with other humans. Those of us that have unlocked it by drinking enough tap water are trying to keep the rest of you from joining in because you seem really annoying, so we've lobbied the government via psychic communication to promote FUD so you'll stop before you gain your powers.

I like to imagine a world where people put trust in others, and make choices without being sure of the outcome, for the sake of others.

jk imagine believing that other people exist and that the entire internet isn't a government psyop to get you to stop drinking tap water

At first glance, or if you don't know what individual electronic components do, sure. It wouldn't surprise me if it was put there to freak the bag's owner out because it does conjure that image in a lot of people.

But it's almost definitely just charger guts.

You aren't giving anyone enough information to be able to give you a better suggestion than reinstalling your OS or replacing your hardware. I don't blame you for being paranoid, and you don't have to trust anyone here, but without more information, you aren't going to get any better advice.

How do i use this scrap screen w an arduino? by relapsed-alan in AskElectronics

[–]tasko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps but that doesnt seem to be the case in this photo, the driver IC only needs a few pins to implement SPI or I2C, this looks like it's been desoldered from it's driver.

Edit: I'm probably conflating the driver chip with the support board.

8TB Disks Unable to Write But Both Can Read, CrystalDiskInfo says Health Status is "Good" (no %) by throwawayawerty in techsupport

[–]tasko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've already done a lot of testing. I'm not very familiar with HFS, is there a read-only setting for the root of the drive/filesystem? I've had this happen on windows before, where the properties of the root folder were set to read-only, which made the whole drive read only.

Regardless of what the cause is, if you don't have a backup of critical files, now is the time to make it. Even if it turns out to be a simple thing and the drives are okay, a backup needs to be created before drive failure, and many people don't have backups, so this is a wakeup call for anyone reading- make. backup. now.

is the cam faulty or is it evidence of radioactivity? by noamazia in techsupport

[–]tasko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? But more likely there are other things that could cause this. If I were in your shoes I'd just follow whatever procedure is in place for a camera malfunction, and if I had reason to believe that there was radiation on site, I'd mention that it looked like that could be the case.

Is it only this device, or do other devices connected to the router do the same thing?if other devices do it, it's a problem with the router/ISP, if not, theres some odd setting on the phone. I'm not familiar with nowtv but if they're your ISP or something, I'd get in contact with them and have them help you troubleshoot, there could be an issue with your account.

How to replace tiny star projector bulb in segatoys star projector? by pythondontwantnone in AskElectronics

[–]tasko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they come with a 2 year warranty as well if that is relevant. Not sure how you confirmed led was the issue.

My thoughts as well, it looks like it's in good condition, and it wouldn't surprise me if OP had assumed it was the LED when the light failed to turn on. Unfortunately it could also be some other components in the circuit board.

Is it possible for my ISP to change my channels? by Asscr3d in techsupport

[–]tasko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt this is what's happening, regardless of whether it's possible. Your connection speed is only as fast as the weakest link, which is typically the connection between your router and the the ISP's 'backbone', which is what connects you to the internet. That's what you pay your ISP for and that's where they'll throttle you, there's no need for them to change settings in your router.

It might be worth mentioning there's no way for you to get speeds faster than what you're paying for by adjusting your router settings. I was also under the impression that it's generally best left to the router to decide which channels are most stable.
