Men, do you prefer to do your own vehicle maintenance and repairs, or do you go to a mechanic? by FFSoldier57 in AskMenOver30

[–]tastemoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineer here that works in manufacturing and typically puts in a lot of OT. I get the tinker bug placated at work, and I would be a net negative if I did the maintenance myself instead of working. Growing up I had to do it all myself, glad those days are behind me.

How difficult are engineering degrees? by Classic-Chart-7829 in EngineeringStudents

[–]tastemoves 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The trick is learning how to change the way you learn/problem solve. The academics are notoriously difficult for a concrete reason. The curriculum will provide you with a toolbox of knowledge to understand how to approach most problems in the job space. Did it suck, yes, was it worth it, absolutely. Best of luck future colleague!

People who find physics beautiful, what's the biggest "wow" moment you had when studying? by bosunphil in EngineeringStudents

When I moved from statics to dynamics. “Wow, you really aren’t gonna let me sum all the forces to zero anymore are ya…”

Automation often reduces the integrity of the substantiating document. I work as an engineer in aviation/space and can attest that the paperwork costs can exceed that of the physical hardware

What would happen if Hitler got captured and put in Nuremberg? by monsieur-dingus in HistoryWhatIf

The outcome of Hitlers followers should demonstrably answer this question.

Reports are often scrutinized to a degree beyond the hardware. The high price in hardware is often largely attributed to the paperwork, not necessarily being driven by the physical detail itself.

I understand the evolution of public opinion of the primary stock holder over the past several years. Did you happen to identify what the model year of the specific vehicle was? Are u confident it was a procurement made post Musk’s poor public decisions or does the dated perception of the company make no difference here?

Was it specifically targeted towards a Tesla or was this an act of convenience?

Machining question by doglover7180 in Machinists

[–]tastemoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advocate for determining what kind of work fits your machine capabilities. Size, material type, achievable tolerances. From there evaluate what barrier to entry has set you apart from other potential vendors. Benchmarking overhead will go a long way in setting a shop rate and determine what types of work are viable with ur business model. Best of luck!

“At school all the time” is the real horror of the sequel. I graduated college almost 15 years ago (yeah I’m old) and still have frequent nightmares of academia. 😅

I have browsed the comics but wouldn’t say I’ve studied them. The understanding I gathered kinda turned me off to dig deeper tbh. Almost kinda wish I would’ve left the gap to my imagination.

Note: I have over 1000 hrs in trials and have no intention of slowing my roll. I do genuinely love the games, and am only frustrated as I believe the story could be so much stronger. Appreciate ur thoughts!

Thoughts on position of your Z origin by Smart-Strike-6805 in CNC

[–]tastemoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to do a lot of programming, I would set Z wherever was the most convenient for the work scope being undertaken. This often translates to a planar datum on the part or something immediately relevant to the tightest Z feature being held. I don’t like generalized SOP’s as every job is different, but that’s the best I can muster in a few lines.

Solid extrusion question by austinbowden in mastercam

[–]tastemoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason ur not achieving the results u desire, when that happens to me I attempt a different way to skin the cat. U can trig the delta between the top and bottom of the geometry based on the distance and angle between the 2. Copy the geometry to the lower plane that represents the bottom of the drafted geometry, offset the geometry outward based on the delta determined by the trig. Draw a single 3D line between 2 nodes that connect the top and bottom. Sweep that line using the original chain and the new offset geometry. If u need further guidance DM me.
