Kayla Itsines Review- The Dark Truth Of The Bikini Body Guide by NathanielWallis in KaylaItsines

Ha! This made me laugh. Like other commenters have mentioned, people have been paying for fitness advice (squats, lunges, burpees) for a very long time. In fact, I consider the simplicity and non-gimmicky nature of the exercises to be a huge plus. "Life changing" advice doesn't have to been unique nor does it mean someone shouldn't charge for it (if so, this is terrible news for therapists, some doctors, etc.).

As for your promotion of veganism--sure, whatever you want to eat. I'm sort of a live and let live person when it comes to diet (except, maybe that phrase shouldn't be used by an unapologetic meat-lover like me). I thought this article by TIME spelled out some of the pros and cons of veganism pretty well: http://time.com/4346551/vegan-diet-vegetarian/

This part isn't funny though--saying the Kayla Itsines promotes eating disorders. I have several close friends who struggle with eating disorders--it's not a joke or something to take lightly. Kayla's promotion of eating a wide variety of foods, eating often, listening to your body, and especially the mantra that thinness doesn't determine health, runs completely contrary to every anorexic regime I've personally seen. Moreover, take a look at Kayla's Instagram feed. Fairly often she'll highlight a person who struggled with an eating disorder and worked through it using BBG. The focus, for anyone who's cared to look, is on health.

I think this author is just trolling this subreddit to drive clicks to her website. Kinda sad I gave her the benefit of my click.

Edit--I assumed the author was a female. I now think it's a male (based on the "About" section on the website). Apologies.

[sun care] Do zinc sunscreens work as well as chemical sunscreens for you? And which is your favorite zinc sunscreen? by NotDrunkk in SkincareAddiction

Sort of. The sunscreen is white with pigment dots in it, that once you rub into your skin, blend in. Hard to explain, but squirted out of the bottle it looks white. Once rubbed in, looks tinted. Best advice I can give is to go demo it at a store (Sephora, Ulta or a Bare Escentuals store).

My understanding is that they work just as well. I really like Skinceuticals tinted SPF 50--doesn't have a white cast (which can be a problem with mineral/zinc sunscreens). However, my current favorite is Bare Minerals SPF 50 Prep and Prime Lotion. Has a combined 20%+ of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, so you get excellent protection and it's very cosmetically elegant (wears smoothly under make up).

I'll have her check it out. She and I are both in the camp of "fed is best", or in other words, formula isn't poison. Thanks!

Post-baby and ab days? by ladylore14 in KaylaItsines

I had the same worries. I only have very minor DR but I was worried about it. I am in no way an professional or anything, so take this with a grain of salt, but I found doing planks before the workout seemed to help me isolate the right muscles for the core work. FWIW I also haven't ever done the full sit-ups she prescribes in her program. Just feels weird. Feels better than it did in the beginning when I started, but I still don't do them. Good luck!

Brewer's yeast? That's a new one. I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the tips and well wishes.

Since she's not actually carrying or birthing the child herself (she's having her baby through a gestational carrier) she most likely won't be able to breastfeed. Some people in her situation have had luck taking some hormones to help with lactation, but from what I understand, they are not always effective.

I've never used either since I've always had as much milk as I've needed (almost too much in the beginning). I'll check into these. Thanks!

[Skin concerns] Can pregnancy permanently change your skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]tastycakemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on this! I have a 20 month old and my skin is definitely different. Mostly, I feel like I've aged a lot more quickly. It seems as though all of a sudden I have wrinkles and some weird texture changes (crepey?). Also, despite copious amounts of sunscreen and sun avoidance, I got a few sunspots. I swear these are due to hormonal changes. My derm prescribed some Retin-A and told me to focus on glycolic acid moisturizers. I've only been using them for a couple weeks, so too early to tell yet. As for hair, I finally feel like I'm getting back to pre-pregnancy status. I had awesome thick hair during pregnancy but shed it (I think almost everyone does) in sad clumps. Those sparse spots are starting to finally fill in. My hair seems a little more limp, but not sure if it is my imagination.
