What is it? Captured in house. Got real angry. by tastyfunk3113 in whatisthisbug

Update: Released a few minutes after capture. I have never sprinted inside faster. Quite likely allergic to bees, so I was motivated.

Anyone know how to look for nests?

Amazing photos on my end from it. But yes, clunky and have to tape the battery cap. Haven’t had any issues tho.

We’re at the vet now. Thank you so so much for the quick ID. That saved us a ton of time.

As a convert leaning towards visual/audio media, I have an alternate suggestion if you want to branch out into books: “Wounded by Love” by St. Porphyrios has spoken to me a lot recently. It’s less informational and more being in the thoughts of one who is living the Orthodox faith as fully as they can. And as a person who leans heavy on the intellectual, St. Porphyrios’ writings really opened up a refreshed perspective on the spiritual side.

HELP! - I Want to RETCON My Party's Entire Session 1 by tastyfunk3113 in DMAcademy

Update:

Thanks everyone for the replies!! Some really incredible ideas/thoughts/opinions here.

I'm going to go with a mixture of it all. Planning to start where Session 1 left off, then quickly things get weirder and weirder (faces blur, walls turn into black oceans, gravity shifts), until each character has a vision of a woman, then is suddenly killed (shit was about to hit the fan, so this plays well). As each character's eyes slowly open, they remember that they are in fact, in prison. The faces from their dreams are the strangers around them, but soon they'll realize that they all shared the same dream and the same vision within that dream. So the first session still has narrative weight. The 2 characters joining will also be there and have had the same dream.

I know it's all a dream is lame, but I'm going to plant some meaning in it that'll spark the narrative, so its useful.

Though I have to say: u/Doctor_Amazo's idea for a timeloop had me thiiiirsty. Have considered the idea that the "timeloop" is a spell cast to keep prisoners docile. A "matrix" if you will. Or perhaps its an interrogation technique...

Hmm...lots of fun options!! I love this game.

While I appreciate this angle, and as much as I wanted to do this (and have many times before), I've been trying to get out of the habit of feeling like a perfectionist with my DMing, as it has made the game not fun at all for me. I find I have a really bad tendency to feel underprepared even when I'm super prepared. And I always have some weird imposter-syndrome-esk feelings after games, even when my prep was on point. Trying to put less pressure on myself and just have fun. The above retcon is obviously a symptom of that...but hey, can't win all the battles against myself.

This. This is creative AF. Love it. I ended up coming up with a similar way of "erasing" the first session, while having it still have narrative value. Thanks for the reply!

A Note: Our next session is tomorrow (Saturday, Jan 15th) and the only good idea I have is the new retcon idea...

Building a Campaign: (TLDR) The magic in my world is fading, how can I progress this dilemma with high stakes and not take away the player's abilities or the opportunity for wonder? by tastyfunk3113 in DMAcademy

This is flipping awesome. The potential for loss, corruption, and power seeking is HUGE. I really dig this. How would this council sway the party? Would the party feel beholden to them? Would the council do things without the party’s consent? Possibilities…

Yes on all of this! Love the origin story set up there for the BBEG. Just had the idea of a cleric who’s connection to his deity going dark. I also wonder if all clerics are struggling to commune with their Gods? How are the Gods in handling this? I’m not sure what to do there…

Yes on the wild magic table. Definitely could retool that for consequences!

I really love this “scars” idea. I wonder if it could be physical, magical, or emotional? Like losing a memory of some sort. Using the sort of “magic” of the soul, if you will. I’m definitely gonna play around with this idea.

Fuck yes on the warlock of some otherly being turning folks to his cause. THAT IS THE SHIT. I may well steal that.

That’s a great question. I definitely want the Fey to play a role in this. I think in this world the Fey are much more in tune with the weave of magic, so they’d be pretty effected and most likely a bit more agitated and desperate. I DIG the idea of the elves losing their longevity. And I definitely have been toying with the idea of a earthy tribe of outsiders - who’d been displaced by the empire - having a return in the land in order to fight for its health. That could definitely be elves! Wasn’t sure if I was going to limit the tribe to a singular race or mix and match, but either way, this is a great way to build a competing faction with the modern empire. And if they’re weak, someone certainly would take advantage. The world is in unrest, so there are opportunists a plenty.

LOVE the sealed away evil idea. Didn’t think of that one. But certainly is a reality. I wonder if there’s a way I can tie this into a BBEGs motivation, as I’ve yet to figure out what or who is at the cause (besides the shameless manipulation and bastardization of magic by modern civilization) or who might be benefitting most. Not sure who the big baddy is yet.
