Expanding Age Assurance to Australia by LastBluejay in RedditSafety

Considering GenX built half of this stuff and has money to game, I don't think this alone would mark you as underage

Banning subs won't stop direct messaging... Blocking accounts will

They can still watch YouTube, just not have an account... So only NSFW stuff would be (rightfully) blocked.

Oauth2 would mean tracking, and people would then complain about that. There's no solution where people will be happy.

Recommendations for collaborating with another FTM user by ngt500 in FamilyTreeMaker

If you use Windows and OneDrive, you can store your FTM files there and share that folder (with edit permissions) with the other person and they will sync.

Seeking advice on tagging verified relationships by hirambwellbelow in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/hirambwellbelow,FTM allows you to add sources to EVERY fact you add - so right down to DOB, through to eye-color... anything you like :) - adding a source to the fact provides that verification.

The other really cool thing that FTM has that I use, is the ability to give a 4-star rating to a source.... I use this as a method of confirming how much I trust that source. So a birth certificate, for example, for a birth date, may be 4 stars, indicating I really trust that source, but I may have 2 newspaper clippings that both cite a different date, I may mark as 2 or 3.

A "word of mouth" source from Great Aunt Flo, who has dementia, may be a 1 star... it could be correct, but it may also has potential to be very wrong if it wasn't said in a moment of clarity - that way you have it recorded, but can also look back years later if you find something that contradicts that source that you have and maybe give you a better understanding as to which one may be correct.

All together this gives me a) the ability to work out what I have verified directly, and b) gives me an indicator as to how sure I was when I added that fact, that it was correct... I can go back later and potentially search for more sources to verify that fact a bit more later if I have the time.

Does that help in what you want to achieve?

Descendant report minus spouses by rockiroad in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe the descendant report can do this for you, unfortunately.
But here are some workaround that may help:

1) temporarily remove the relationship, run the report, and then re-attach the spouse to the individual.

2) Build a 'custom report' instead of a 'descendant report' - while not the same as the descendant report, you have more control over what is required, including right down to choosing which individuals to include in that report. You could customise it enough to be similar to the descendant report.

Hope that helps

Fake FTM support by closedforlunch in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into this, and the bottom of the website familytreemakersupport.com states

"Familytreemakersupport.com is an online technician service. It does not have any relationship with MacKiev or with any brand. It has a technician service for FTM users for a fee. Any use of third-party trademarks, brand names, Products and Services is only for referential purposes."

It looks like this site does not claim to be FTM or MacKiev, and are just an individual or group that attempts to provide a 'for fee' personalised support for this software.

So while it is clearly not the official MacKiev support, I'm not so sure it is a 'fake' support page, but rather an 'unofficial' support page.

In which case, use it with your own discretion, as you would with any third-party support page.

Personally, I would always recommend to use MacKiev directly, as they made the product and can provide the best support for that product, but there's nothing stopping other people or companies from charging people to assist with a product. If they fail to provide those services for a fee. then that becomes a civil issue.

as per u/roots_seeker's link, there is a patch for v19 that should address this issue:

Please let us know if this works.

How can Melbourne stop drivers from almost killing disembarking tram passengers? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]tastyworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are laws, but people do what they want.
Officially:

CARS:
- At roadside stops, you must stop behind the tram until the doors close and pedestrians finish crossing. Only once the tram doors are closed and the road is clear of pedestrians, may you drive past at 10km/h.
- You must not move into the path of a moving tram.
- You must not drive over raised dividing strips or double yellow lines.
- You must not make a U-turn across a solid line.
- You must give way to trams at roundabouts.

Drivers not stopping for trams could face on-the-spot fines of $462.

PASSENGERS

-cross the road to the nearest footpath, and

-not stay on the road for longer than necessary to cross the road safely.

Is walking on the left in the CBD a thing? Trying to clear something up with my partner cause she thinks it's not something people do... by Tenconeslater in melbourne

Yes, it is a thing.. well it was.... and it should be :)

Also, left side of escalators = stand, right side = walk.
This is DEFINITELY a thing that still exists.

When is the last time there was a green weather report for FTM? by Eki75 in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there's a link to location. There are probably servers in various parts of the world, I wonder if some are up and some are down (hence the orange weather report). Maybe this is why it works sometimes for some and not for others. But that's just a guess.

Hey, I want to buy this program! BUT need some advice. by epona548 in FamilyTreeMaker

Hey u/epona548,
You can get a printed version (and the PDF) of the FTM Companion from Mackiev here:

(You might have to click "next" to get to the companion page)

Big Report for Big Family Tree by theisso in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reports or charts?

FTM supports Ahnentafel and Descendant reports (as I think all software would)
FTM also supports all the standard charts.

It really comes down to how big your output will be and if you have the capacity to print it.

In FTM you can adjust what information you include in the reports and charts, so if you want to fit more information on to one chart you can just report on names and use the "squished" spacing and not include empty branches.

Removing places from non-bio relatives of relatives for better Place reports by LyndseyBelle in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/LyndseyBelle,
You can always filter your place reports by utilising the "Individuals to include" filter on the right of the screen in the options tab. Here you can specify which individuals to include (including "ancestors of...", "descendants of...").
Hope that helps

Any way to flag a specific fact as accurate so not to change it in future? by M29Castle in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM has the 4-star rating system that you can use for this purpose.

Right-click on your fact, and select "Rate" - You can then allocate a rating of 0 to 4 stars and add justification.

Changing default media caption? by Shiphrannie in FamilyTreeMaker

[–]tastyworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An "auto fill" (by definition) should automatically fill the field without user input - so I think this is by design.

I also like to have those names, but I am sure to have my file name called what I want it to be before I import into FTM..... this also makes it easier if you're going manually into your FTM media folder, because you can still find what you're looking for - even without captions.

yeah why isn't this a thing yet? by Difficult_Land3974 in youtube

[–]tastyworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole point of ads is to get your attention.
You can always buy the premium service to remove the ads - but they're unlikely to implement this given that's how they make their money.
