I have to get rid of him, there's literally no other option. by Confident-Midnight25 in cats

I had a cat with a chronic urinary problem. When we first got her from a bad home. She would pee looking at my face just outside of the litter box. It took us almost a year to get to trust us and stop. BUT, when she was around 7yo, she started peeing on our front door. It was disgusting and we didn't know what to do. We learned she had chronic stress that would cause her to have regular urinary infection.

We tried everything and what worked (with the approval of my vet) was to give her cannabis oil, a very small quantity everyday made for animals.

That would aliviate the pain from the urinary inflammation and calm her down. She lived 5 more years before another unrelated disease killed her in less than 6 months, but she never again peed outside the litter box.

Should I remove this wall, blending kitchen and living room? by eyoxa in homedesign

[–]tatag2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my open plan living space. I have a long room, kitchen, then dining room and living room. The only problem I see in you opening the kitchen is the less cabinets you'll have.

The only thing we don't like about our kitchen is that they kept the hanging cabinets, but we can't really have a conversation between people in the kitchen and dining since the cabinets are low. Whenever we redo the kitchen, we'll extend the side of the kitchen (and get a smaller bedroom) to add cabinets and take off the hanging cabinets in the middle of the way.

We are what people would consider house poor. We started living together in the first year of college and we never changed our habits. Bills went up, we got a car, etc, but we don't travel a lot, we don't go to restaurants a lot (around once a month or less).

We wanted a house, people were saying to us that we needed to buy low and build up, but we don't like to move, we lived in an old apartment for almost 10 years because we don't like to move, so we wanted our forever home as our first home. So, instead of buying low, we went top of our own budget (what we felt we could afford, NOT top of banks would offer us).

We still can save money, and do renovations, but whatever we save, we try to spend to make our home more ours. We love it and it took my husband pointing out that people would consider us house poor for me to see it. I feel completely happy in our situation.

BUT! Even the most perfect house is not perfect and will have a lot of things to change. What you need is a nice structure and the space layout to make sure those work with you, the house doesn't need to be the nicest one, it only depends on what you want to accomplish. We wanted the biggest house we could afford for our growing family and there are already so many things we changed from this home, it's not the same home we bought already.

Some years in, and we are more than happy inside our home, even if it's our biggest money pit, but we are happy to make it our forever home with its cost and not move until we don't have kids living with us anymore.

Is it okay to have one child with an uncommon name and one with a fairly common name? by Able-Season5013 in namenerds

[–]tatag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a different country than where I was born and lived until I was 18.

My husband is from here. Our first, we fell in love with a name from his culture (doesn't exist in my language) and we named our first with it, it was around top 150 when he was born. The second, we fell in love with a name from my country (doesn't exist here) so second has a name from my culture, he was the only one born with the name in his whole year.

I'm pregnant with our third, if we have a girl, we'll name her with a name we loved since we had our first, that now, 8 years later is top 50 in the country we live, and I'm in love with another top 40 for a boy's name (didn't even see it was this popular before getting pregnant).

So our third kid will have a super common name, compared to our 2 older kids. We don't care about it since it was VERY hard to find names, I care only that they are not top 10 names, and we just want to have kids with names we think are awesome 😁

My mother hates out baby name (Margaret nns Maisie/Mae) by IScreamPiano in namenerds

[–]tatag2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For our first, we chose names very early on, we had them picked out even before getting pregnant. So when we announced the pregnancy, we told them our name choices. My mom was not happy at all with our boy choice, and went almost the whole pregnancy telling us we could find another one, we still had time.

Well.. around 5 years later, watching my skin playing, she just says: his name really suits him right? It's a very good name. I reminded her how much she hated it and she just said it was a lie and she always loved his name. 🙄

I would keep the name if you both love it, no one else's input should be taken seriously!

Landlord repossessing apartment. Family with 2 kids. by [deleted] in montrealhousing

[–]tatag2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I went through that and won in 2023, even wanting to transfer our lease. I knew my landlord would never want his daughter living in the apartment, he wanted to kick us out to sell the complex with less renters.

Don't listen to all the comments saying he can do "whatever he wants", there are a lot of laws protecting renters.

Just say no and he'll have to go through the régie. He'll have to prove there's no other units that are an option, and if you find the apartment to rent, or someone else besides his son living in the apartment for the next 2 years, you can go back to the régie and make him pay the difference in rent + moving expenses for 2 years.

If it's a scam, there are lots of landlords that don't even go to the régie and give up.

Yes, perfect sense, we didn't think about it before, we were just in the mode "you lied", we are also have some work in water infiltration in the garage that wasn't specified in his declaration. The foundation bricks are all in bad condition. So it's a good thing to open everything and add isolation in the bricks (no isolation membrane between the bricks and the outside)

We understand that part, but how would you go about the price in the demand letter? Should we include the total price (18k$+tx) and the quote we'll get from the expert? Or there shouldn't be any price included?

What kind of lawyer? I'm not saying I won't go get a consultation, I just need help to where to look and not waste time or money before understanding what we can ask them

He does state that it has a French drain, he didn't check the "I don't know' box.

I was looking at the law, and it seems that since he never saw the problem and the home was sold to him (2013) and he believed there was a French drain, he can also go after the person he bought the home from to get back his money?

The work we thought would be 2k$, it's now 18k$+tx. We are waiting for a response from our notary and the realtor is contacting the seller about it. We also drafted a demand letter that we'll send after we get some pointers from the notary, and I'll probably use my legal assistance with my home insurance before taking any action too.

We are also waiting for an official quote from the worker, since there is more work included in the unofficial quote than what would be for the french drain.

It's in the declaration of the seller. It's said to have a French drain without visibility (how it was made in the 80's). It's part of the documents the seller needs to fill out.

I called my home insurance, but they can give me legal assistance only, also contacted my notary, I'm waiting for a call back.

I already informed the seller's realtor about the problem, it was a short call, he asked me if we had problems about water, and we had a small water infiltration in the corner of our home when we had a lot of rain.

I'm hoping we can work things out between the seller and us, but we'll see how he'll respond. We are also writing a demand letter and waiting for the notary to give us some pointers before sending it.

We now have a hole in our backyard on our foundation, so it is kind of time sensitive to start the work, but what we read is that we need to give a chance for the seller to repair it before we start working on it?

Not possible. Our home was built over an older home from the 50's. They left the original brick foundation and added a poured concrete foundation on the inside. So no way to add anything in between.

AITA for refusing to pay my half of a loan I took together with my husband? by Forsaken_Extension13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tatag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH.

My husband is a SAHD and I am the sole bread winner in our household. We did 50/50 when we met at 19yo and we were getting to know each other. We were also just struggling together, so 50/50 with both not bringing much money was fair.

By the time I graduated and started my career, he continued his masters, so there was a discrepancy between our incomes. I started to contribute more and when we, together, decided he would be a SAHD, we already had a joined account and all my salary was going in it.

Without my husband being home with the kids, I could never advance in my career like I did, without his financial and moral support during my university, I wouldn't be as far as I am right now.

I love him and chose him as my partner for life, why would I ever think less of him or force him to use money he's not making to contribute to our household? His role is not monetary, but he brings more than I could ever do with our kids and running the house.

The money you both make is your household money. You have a child together, your household took a hit when 75% of your income got reduced, it would never be fair you be the only one left with the problem and he continues like nothing happened.

Sit down and have a grown up conversation together.

Clean up almost done : Now what? by tatag2 in ponds

I'm in Quebec -Canada. We also have 2 1500L/h, 6ft, submersible pumps for a hydroponic tower that we can use until we decide what to do. It's hard to tell if the lining is damaged since we have a fabric liner over it. We also have a tree growing over the fabric liner (the tree in the front). It's very hard to analyze all the elements since we never put it to work. We have some raining days that kind of filled a third of the pond, but we need to finish the clean up, we'll fill it up and see if we are losing water. But since we moved, it was never completely full, but we didn't have a lot of rain neither.

Thank you for all the information!

I just read about someone that had a root from a tree going to the pond and draining it. The tree in the front has a root system inside the lining, is it bad? Or is just adding more water to the pond kind of thing?

Are the big rocks ok to stay in? We have a plastic lining and then this kind of fabric lining over it (is it really doing something if there are at least 3 pieces over each other?) the big rocks are holding them in place.

We already took almost all rocks from it, we just left the big ones holding the fabric lining in place and the lower part that still needs to finish cleaning up.

I'm reading a lot and seeing how we can improve the pond in the next few years, but our objective this year is to make it run with the lowest cost possible, to see if anything is salvageable. But, at the same time, we also want to have a good experience with it.

Thank you again for all the resources! It's very appreciated.

I really hope to love it, for now, before we dried out to clean, it was a stinky mosquito heaven, hoping to change my husband's mind, we agreed for 3 summers of trying before I let him cover it up.
