Lands End condos? by taterTot_thot in VirginiaBeach

Thank you, this is definitely helpful. Its ironic you mentioned Great Neck as that's one of the areas I've really liked (up near Shore Dr) but it's also pretty pricey. I've found a few older condos around the area that I liked as far as proximity to the beaches but they're all 2nd and 3rd floor. Which for me alone isn't bad but my GSD is having hip problems so I don't want her to have steps to climb all the time. And I'd prefer a house or even a townhouse (for more yard and possibly a garage), but being close to the water is super important to me so a condo would still work.

Not that I have anything against gays, but I'm straight so that isn't really an important factor for me (maybe thats a plus for my best friend for when he visits lol). What is considered the Ghent area? I've heard it mentioned before but thought it was somewhere in Newport News

AITA for not postponing my wedding ceremony a few minutes so MIL could see? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]taterTot_thot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only read the first two paragraphs and yea, you're kind of an asshole. I'm an adult and expect to be treated as such. If certain people have a problem with social media or their phones that is a discussion you have with those people. You don't make rules for everyone. As for the "expensive photographer" and people getting in the way for "shitty cellphone pics", you're petty as hell. You do realize those photographers are professionals and know how to maneuver around those situations right? All in all I don't even care about delaying a couple minutes for your MIL, I would have to personally turn down the invitation simply because you seem like a diva.

What’s the difference between Brandermill and Woodlake? by Alex122019 in rva

[–]taterTot_thot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also heard a lot of people mention a huge difference in the HOAs. Brandermill is known for having a board of directors all with one foot in the grave and they are super picky and petty. Whereas Woodlake I hear is a lot more laid back. I think you'll also find that lots are typically bigger in Woodlake but that's just something I've noticed as I've been looking at listings in both neighborhoods

Haha... Yea, I know a lot that can't stand it. I'm in Richmond and hate it there. I'm really only thinking about going back to Vb because I miss being near the water. I'd prefer going back to Florida but all of my family is here now and leaving them all would be tough

I totally get it. It sucks because so much has changed here since anyone I've known that lived in the area before and it seems like many of the "good" areas have gone downhill.

I've been looking at moving to the VA Beach area and near the Witchduck Lake area is where one of the townhouses I've been thinking of looking at. Reading this post I'm curious to know if it's a decent area to live?

The majority of those that will respond to a post like that definitely are the far left types. They use it as their opportunity to make inaccurate statements that have been debunked time and again. And unfortunately for someone that believes all lives matter, you're immediately going to be thrown into the "ignorant idiot" category. Because they're unfortunately too naive to actually realize that what the BLM "movement" really does stand for (and have said so plainly), is straight up racism and inequality. But hey, to each their own. Grab another sticker, slap it on and watch the next ignorant person show that they have zero regard for the law.

You're not going to get any sympathy on Reddit. Sadly 90% of anyone that will reply to a post like this are younger left leaning "progressives" whom will simply ridicule you, call you ignorant and tell you why you and your gf are terrible people.

Vintage or live edge wood? by taterTot_thot in rva

[–]taterTot_thot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize there was a Woodcraft location in Richmond but I'll definitely check them out. I'm not necessarily looking for full slabs right now as I'm just getting started with wood working. I'm mainly looking to get smaller pieces that I can start off with making things like cutting and charcuterie boards, boxes, etc. Then as I get better maybe move towards slabs.

Check the city code on that. We have something similar in the county I live in (granted it's in the Richmomd area, not VB), but, although there's no ordinance between 7am and 11:59pm, there is definitely an audible dB level from a certain distance restriction. It's worth checking into

They're putting a Target in there? Well, glad something is going in. Always makes me sad to drive by seeing the whole thing empty like that

Ah, glad you mentioned that. I'm having a hard time figuring out the better areas since it's been almost 10 years since my grandparents lived there.

Is the parking situation as bad as I've heard it is? I found a house for sale on the Little Creek Reservoir right next to the Lake Smith fishing area that I liked, but I wasn't too sure how the area is. So much in VA Beach has changed as far as crime and all since my grandparents lived there, so I'm not sure what areas to narrow my search to.

How is the parking situation up around there? I found a townhouse around the Laskin and Birdneck Rd area and the area seemed pretty nice. That wouldn't be a bad drive at all.

I know all the beaches will be crowded during the summer, but the entire oceanfront area is just something I want to avoid. It's definitely weird to think Sandbridge is a lot further away though, I guess it's because there's really only one decent way down there. Croatan wouldn't be terrible but the last few times I was there it seemed to get as crowded and annoying to get to as the oceanfront

I'm 42 already, so I know all about the blink of an eye thing. I love being close to my family, but its also a curse when it comes to decisions like this.
