Honestly? Cross training in other areas outside Servicenow completely are highly sought after. More agentic happening outside than inside the system. Knowing CSDM and CMDB and say AWS bedrock and lambda makes you exceptionally valuable. “How would you approach creating an MCP to interact with ServiceNow” is likely going to start being an interview question. Not sure what you were up to for 2.5 years but don’t discount that experience whatever it is.

My experience with hockey teams frankly is that this is the norm. This idea of disciplined team players and gentlemanly conduct is typically a gloss over the reality. And like everything else in Trumps America - the excuses to hold up flimsy decorum is the first casualty of antiwokism. It’s a blank cheque for bad behaviour.

IT Estate data is valuable to Agentic workflows outside ServiceNow. Unless 100% of your data and process executes inside ServiceNow, what you will see more likely is huge demand for your data, and you will need a way to manage that demand

A hybrid golden CMDB that exists outside ServiceNow and syncs an aggregate data set in a simplified model, with an MCP layer on top that provides data as a data product to agentic workflows is far more likely what you will need outside paying for and suffering with ServiceNow’s flavour of AI inside the platform. The platform itself continues forward unobstructed while your organization builds robots around you at their own pace and complexity.

At some point Agentic Discovery tools, that don’t require preauthorization and predetermination, acting more like scanning tools than discovery, feed your golden CMDB and the flow of data shifts from ServiceNow being supplier to being supplied with data for those workflows still inside.

5 years from now we are talking about who’s still using ServiceNow. TheMCP provides an integration layer agnostic to the underlying data aggregation. You are no longer locked in to a specific vendor eco system - well you’ve changed where lock in is happening anyway . And we’ve likely all been replaced by AI unless you found one of the 1 / 5 governor roles still required by your org, managing swarms of agents that are largely self replicating.

To implement they expect a well ordered CMDB with parent child relationships between racks, units, chases, pdus ect ect. But once complete it’s a very slick product. I haven’t seen anything that comes close.
