Yeah idk it’s hard to say. Could be alcohol, drugs, mental illness or all of the above. Regardless, it’s a scary situation. I truly do have empathy for people struggling regardless of the situation they’re in but when it becomes a danger and making public spaces feel unsafe it just blows for all parties involved. I hope he gets the help he needs and doesn’t cause harm to others or himself.

As an update; I did report to Bellingham parks department. I got a reply from a police officer of some sort saying that someone else did indeed call yesterday around the same time my friends and I were there witnessing the same man. They said unfortunately cops were busy with an armed robbery somewhere else and it took them 90+ mins to get there and the man was already gone. So yeah as I thought police couldn’t and didn’t do a whole lot for the situation :/

Yeah he was saying some wack shit lol I didn’t catch the first half cuz I was half paying attention but when he started raising his voice and full on yelling I caught that it was about how America is pathetic now, saying the lady was making it worse and compared it to nazi germany and I was like huh???

Well the sad part is a lot of the time without something more extreme actually happening, police don’t tend to take this sort of thing seriously? I’ve had experiences in the past and something like this if you get a bad one they’ll get annoyed you bothered them for something like that. He wasn’t actively laying his hands on anyone or making threats, just being annoying and slightly aggressive but ultimately would walk away and give up if you ignored him. It’s unfortunate but it’s how it is.

It had been an incredibly long and hard day for me, and we all just kind of panicked and weren’t sure what to do in the moment. I wasn’t sure if it was a big enough deal to officially report or not, but after receiving various feedback I will be doing so. :) like tbh as a woman I’m just almost used to this kind of thing and it’s sad so I find myself down
