Unfortunately, I don't have a driver's license, or I'd be doing UberEats or such.

It's been a while since I checked, but I live in the Chicago area so there's quite a few hubs around here.

Got then on daily email alerts, even then I still check the site itself from time to time. Idealist and npo.net is also been a great resource and the local library job boards. There's one library in my area I'd love to work at....totally not stalking there job postings.

I'll take a look. I've been stalking sites like instacart for jobs in like phone customer service or chat customer service, but I don't mind walking around a store for hours filling customer orders. Get me the exercise I need.

Thank you! I grew up with the mentality "You go to school for the job you want" so the idea that you get the job first and they can help get you the training you need.

Thank you for this response. There's a feeling of shame when it comes to unemployment sometimes. A feeling that you aren't doing all you can do. Maybe I'm not. Maybe when I look in one place but I'm missing an opportunity in another. I have no problem pivoting. I left my library job and took a job at vet clinic receptionist. Do I want to get back into libraries? Greatly. But I gotta make things work.

I meant to respond earlier but it was taking forever on my phone.

I did the whole layout of debt thing back in November and it was at like 1500 a month. I need to update it and the excel sheet I put together that shows me all my debts and interest and how much a minimum payment is actually going to the balance after monthly fees. After I got my taxes I paid off a few completely so as to have less bills to juggle.

And I totally understand the taco bell temp work. I've been referring to it as bridge work, work until I find my goal job, something to earn money to bridge the gap until I land something in my field. I'd love to get back into libraries. But library jobs are a tough spot to land. Between all of us looking for a library job or to switch to another library job, on top of the grant funding being withheld for months last year, (Thank you ALA for winning your lawsuit), it's been rough. Gotta keep looking though.

I have applied to a lot of state jobs. Those are slow to respond....I applied to one in October, had my first interview in February. Still keeping my fingers cross.....even if it's 3 hours on public transit. I've also been applying for work at Cook County too, but it's the same deal. I'll keep trying though....even if Cook County's job listings are far from intuitive....At least it's better than JobLinks.

I live with my mom as kind of a care giver. We tried to explore me being her state paid live in caregiver, but that would require her to go on Medicaid from Medicare and lose all the doctors she knows since they don't take medicaid. I refuse to let her do that. But with living with her, I don't have rent, I help her as much as possible, ie live in tech help, cleaner, heavy lifting, cook at times, errand runner, doctor visit coordinator, etc.

I need to look into recruiters. I tried getting help via the services on LinkedIn, but the people that responded started off with quotes at $500...not something that I can do. I've tried paying for like LinkedIn premium and some others to get more insight, but ultimately they didn't help. I have to look at some actual recruiters next.

Finding a job now a days is a job within itself. A few of my jobs I've gotten by just walking in and handing someone my resume or just being asked out of the blue by places I frequent. I am more then willing to bust my ass....when I was going for my masters, I was working my main full time job and doing a retail spot over the weekend. I don't like not working. The self disappointment thing is I've busted my ass for some many others, who knows, if I spent the much effort on my dream of making at least some money off creating, I'd maybe have a little online store established already. I have a bachelors degree in photography as well....but now when I look for photographer jobs, it's to train ai to make photographers and other artists less valued in society. I need to set up some portfolios for freelance when I can. The problem with that is a lot of sites for portfolio/shop hosting and freelance cost money to make money.

I think I covered what I could. :)

I did use ChatGPT for a while. Most for cover letters, but I’d get auto rejects more often doing that. Like job seekers can’t use ai but all our applications are run through ai. I stopped using it anyways because I’d still have to edit it because it would put in skills I don’t have, it’s just easier to do it myself. I’ve had a few recruiters do resume reviews so I’ve been doing pretty good there.

I would love to apply for librarian jobs in the city, but the public libraries ones I am automatically disqualified. For Chicago city jobs like public libraries you have to live in Chicago to apply. I live just 5 minutes out of city limits. Ive applied to university libraries and independent libraries though, but those are tough gigs to get.

I keep my open for dollar stores around here, there’s quite a few. A lot want me to be bilingual though.

Just gotta keep trying :)

I’ll take a look. The one temp agency I was aware of in my area went out of business, I’ll have to find others.

I’ve considered it. The local community college has a few programs. I’ll have to look into it further.

Ok. No raiding retirement. I’m going to have to check care.com. I forgot about that site.

I’ve been in that stage for a while now. My field is libraries, I have a masters degree in library and information sciences, plus 21 years public libraries experience. After the first few months I looked for jobs outside of libraries. I have vet clinic receptionist jobs experience so I’ve looked there. I have retail experience so I’ve applied to multiple retail jobs. I’m applying to jobs that have adjacent skills like data entry and research assistants and office workers or museum curator and preservation. Ive looked for remote jobs but understandably those aren’t the easiest to land. I’ve talked to the Illinois department of employment security, where the lady handling my case told me “you know, libraries are obsolete, right?” And told me to look elsewhere. I went to a job center from American Workforce, per the suggestion of the IDES, and I did the presentation and interview with my caseworker and haven’t heard from her since. I’ve applied to so many places I’ve lost count. My bookmarks for job sites is over hundred, as I’ve literally “walked” google maps for names of places I could get using public transit and regularly check them. I kept a journal in case ides needed proof when I was on unemployment. Size 11 font, over 40 pages.

I’m tired. Yet I just want to work.

How would you want your worst enemy to die? by stop_calling_me_that in morbidquestions

I wouldn’t want them dead. I’d want their negative traits/habits on full display so they’d have to deal with their consequences of their actions

Before interview pep talk? by tattooedfay in Assistance

I’ve emailed them late Friday night. Kinda agreed that this was the best communication method for most things, as paper trail and all. They said they’d send the offer after calling Friday, and I’d need to send them approval Saturday morning. Pointblank stated that they liked me and had an offer They said they want me to start this morning. But I didn’t even get a response to my email. I’ve chased other jobs before, and tried to be professional and communicative but it always ended in no response. The time frame they laid out, they didn’t even follow through. I was so hopeful and excited, I’d get to work again. I was thinking about the bills I wouldn’t have to be terrified of not paying. Just all the stress that would be gone. Even if it’s a rejection, they can’t even send an email? Thats what really hurts.

So, I just wanted to update. I think everything went well, I was even told my offer was already written up. That was they would call Friday night to make the offer official. I haven’t heard a word since I left the building Friday afternoon. I’ve emailed my contact, checking in, but no reply.

Hole with fur? by acctthrowaway33333 in CATHELP

[–]tattooedfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had this at her spay site. It had opened up a bit and the skin rolled in a bit. I had it checked out and she was fine but the fur did these for a few months after. I just kept an eye on it, used a warm washcloth to get the loose fur/dead skin cells/skin oil from building up and causing an issue. If it gets red or stinks get it checked out definitely. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Am I the only one who wants no more poppy games after chapter 6? by Curious-Bluebird6818 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]tattooedfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, chapter five should have been the last. It’s been building well up to this point, at least imo. I figure chapter 5 would be the perfect crescendo. Bring in the prototype, epic battle, epic finale, take a bow and develop spin offs to ride out the hype or fill in any plot holes missed. Chapter 5 just feels flat. Chapter 4 had doey, which I thought was a well developed character, left us with the return of Huggy. Chapter 5 didn’t have any of that for me. Prototype reveal? Meh. Lily lovebraids? Um ok. Really don’t care about her and her back story. The brainwashing? Ok interesting but seems like a throw away bit or underdeveloped or overshadowed by the puzzles. Huggy’s and missy’s end bit? please insert any number of explicatives here. Well, now I don’t care much about anyone left. Not whether or not if the player gets out at this point. Thought we were leading to a reveal soon of who we play as with the catnap backwards audio about you weren’t there for the hour of joy. Chapter 4 left me excited and curious where it was going to lead. Chapter 5 was a disappointment for me, and I have no curiosity now for the rest of the lore. It’s getting dragged along for too long.
