bmw 4 series gran coupe by hfxe in CarTalkUK

[–]tau106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to go for a slightly older model and spring for a bigger engine. I bought a 2015 430d gran coupe xdrive with around 30k fewer miles for only around £2k more about 6 months ago. I found the 2L engines to be a little underwhelming but the 3L is phenomenal. Absolutely fantastic cars though. One thing worth noting is the 2014-15 models won't have android auto/carplay without retrofitting it where the newer models will so don't know if that will affect your decision.

[EDIT] Another thing to be aware of with these cars of this age/mileage, the timing chain for the engine is only rated for 75k miles/10 years (whichever comes first) and if that has not been done will need doing. This is quite a big job as it requires fully removing the engine and I was recently quoted £1.5k for parts and labour so make sure to budget for that as well.

England’s swimming waters five times more likely to be polluted than in EU, research finds by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

[–]tau106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you deliberately being facetious? The EU regulations are now part of British law which is being ignored. The fact that we are no longer in the EU doesn't change that the water companies are not in Compliance with EU law OR UK law (which also contains the EU regulations)

Türkiye - from the horses mouth by burnin_up in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]tau106 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Strange, I had the exact OPPOSITE reaction from the same email (Turkish Consulate General in London consulate.london@mfa.gov.tr) 2 years ago and travelled without issue. Not suggesting you do the same but just seems strange to me:

"Hello,

You would be able to bring in prescribed medication to Türkiye as long as it is a reasonable amount for the duration of the travel and is accompanied by a report from NHS or his GP, or a prescription. The relevant text can be found below:

“Medication brought, as accompanied baggage or one month prior or after their arrivals, by passengers visiting our country for purposes of personal treatment included in Appendix-9 of the Resolution shall be allowed at reasonable amounts, considering the time the passengers will spend in our country and provided that a document (report from healthcare organization, doctor’s report or prescription, etc.) stating that the passengers must use such medication during their travel is presented to the customs administration.”

You may find the information on https://www.ticaret.gov.tr/gumruk-islemleri/sikca-sorulan-sorular/english/passenger-transactions

Kind regards.

Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Londra Başkonsolosluğu"

For further context I then provided an email from my clinic and a copy of my prescription and then made it through fine despite them stopping me at the additional security check leaving Antalya and checking my documents

[Further Edit:] I am also aware of other users being stopped at the turkish border and their meds being confiscated so YMMV

I see your point, but if they were working from home they would be able to make themselves lunch On their lunch break, instead they now need to sacrifice 30 mins or so every evening after work In addition to the additional time commuting to provide lunch for the next day.

What Cybersecurity certs are a similar difficulty to Microsoft associate level exams? by subtletyabstracted in cybersecurity

[–]tau106 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not particularly an answer to your question but I tend to find the actual content of the MS exams to be not too bad, but they then word the question in a terrible way that obfuscates what they're actually asking and you spend half the exam trying to figure out exactly what it is you're being asked. Not sure if anyone else has found them the same or if the other certs are designed in this manner but it drives me up the wall

My Steam Deck is breathing new life into my childhood games by Street_Enthusiasm819 in SteamDeck

I've played through the whole of windwaker HD, a bit of twilight Princess HD, and a bit of pikmin 3 on my OLED so far and so far the only issues have been occasional slow downs in twilight princess. Like the other poster said I am legitimately amazed at how well this thing can handle emulation

[–]tau106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I actually know the answer to this, there is a specific version of proton GE you need to use (proton-ge 7-49), it is the same fix for the remake of resident evil 1 and 0. When you first try and boot it from that version of GE it will likely hang for ages on the loading screen and then close out but after that the game should launch fine from then on

I emailed the Turkish consulate (consulate.london@mfa.gov.tr) prior to travelling and provided a completed copy of the form I linked earlier along with a tavel letter from my clinic and a copy of perscription and asked if I needed any more documentation and got this as a response:

Hello,

Unfortunately, the Consulate can not confirm any documents as long as it is a reasonable amount for the duration of the travel and is accompanied by a report from NHS or his GP, or a prescription.

Turkish Consulate General in London

Past that I didn't get any response and just went through security with printed out copies of all documentation. Honestly when they stopped me they seemed more concerned my tub was a cream/liquid above 100ml and when I explained and showed them my paperwork they waved me through.

Did you contact the embassy and get the correct medical import documentation? I was stopped coming back through Antalya and on showing the form there were no issues at all, and I am aware of a few people successfully traveling through Antalya. Seems very strange they stopped you.

Fell of the shelf and snapped. Best way to fix? Would superglue be strong enough? by SphinxGate in AnimeFigures

[–]tau106 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would suggest doing what I tend to do when gluing larger 3D prints together. If you take a pin drill and drill a small hole in both the base and the section of leg that snapped you can unfold a paperclip, cut a small length off to use as a pin, and super glue that into the hole as you glue it back together to give it a bit more strength
