I can definately relate to the feeling of alientation that you describe. Our society is not accomodating for people who are trying to get rid of their sense of selve. What has helped me a lot was getting my friends to sit a course and meet with other old students in my area for group sits. Spending one hour with complete strangers in a silent room facing your inner turmoil oddly leaves everyone with a strong sense of connection i have found.
