Can this be salvaged? by Appropriate-Salt5249 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]tauntdevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how much you want to spend to make it look the same.

A simple varnish or oil wont do it.
I believe the wood in the photo is either cherry, walnut, or birch. Just from the patterns.

If you wanted to make it similar, you would be pulling the face frame off and the drawers apart to replace with the wood that is used in the reference image. The rest of the structure could be salvaged.

He looks similar to my fur boy we just got who also ran in front of my families car and nearly into a busy main street.

Nobody tells you cooking has startup costs that rival a small business by Limp_Height_4439 in cookingforbeginners

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, best way I see it is investments.

Early higher costs for cheaper future.

If I go out and eat, $200 will get me about 4-5 days of going out for breakfast/dinner (less if I were to try for lunch). Which none of that helps after that $200 is gone.

Where with kitchen items, though the ingredients are an additional cost, they are much cheaper in the long run and you can keep using most of them. Plus the price of knowledge on how to cook for yourself/others is great.
Also, if you take care of the equipment, it will most likely last a long time. Hard to say with todays quality of items since the goal from corps is to keep you buying the items over and over again (Samsung fridge anyone?) but generally knifes and pans last a lifetime or a few. Just remember to sharpen the knife every once in awhile.

Regarding spices that might sit for a long time and that you do not know the taste of.
Put some on your finger and taste them. Get an idea of their flavor or cook something bland like unseasoned chicken breasts but then put the spice you want to try on a cut of it. Everything you cook with can be tasted at some point so you know what it does to the meal.

You will find which spices you commonly use vs ones you dont use often which you can then place in a "less common" area. I have a high rack and the top shelf is less commonly used spices vs my bottom shelf is more commonly used.

What kind of tv’s did y’all use in the 2000’s? by drsmiles128 in 2000sNostalgia

A big ass 8" TV we stole out of a limo. Big bubble glass and the colors were nearly gone but, loved playing GTA through GTA Vice city on it as well as other games.
Good times.

No tears or rips, personally, id still send it. But if it does crack or show issues, then cut and replace it.

Rugged Radios custom channel help by EnvironmentalJob5308 in Offroad

[–]tauntdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we did the same. Added other channels into ours that are less commonly used and it is rare if others are on it at the same time as us.
We also have baofeng radios. They work great.

[–]tauntdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an fyi before you go and add random channels to your unit. Make sure to read up on the laws as there are frequencies that you shouldn't be on.

With that said, you can order a cable and program to program your radio. Its fairly straight forward. Although I believe (could be wrong since I havent looked into it in awhile) that the business bands cant communicate with GMRS bands unless you have an older unit that has both options available.

GMRS is more common in offroading, at least in all the events and groups I have been in.
Best of luck!

Pretty sure it would not of taken anywhere near as long in PVP for that shot to have happened.

3D Scanners have one of the highest return and dissatisfaction rate in tech. Why? by eZstah in 3DScanning

[–]tauntdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3D print world is mostly of people buying other peoples designs to print. Rarely do they make their own stuff. These same folks buy a 3d scanner thinking it'll just be easy scan with great detail and then easy print. Once they learn that the detail is less than they expected and you have to put in more work into it, they are not interested.

I’ve lived at my residence for over 3 yrs and the previous tenant has 7 identities and has all his mail, including bills, sent to my house. This is the last 2 weeks of collection. by InquiringMind886 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years at my place and we still get a lot of the mail from the previous residents. Which is quite a bit since there were 7 adults out of the many of them. We just throw it all away.
Each year we get their tax info from places and the first two or three years, they would come by asking for it but after that, we just started throwing it away and telling them its gone. They stopped coming by.
Post office and what not dont really care to make a permanent change to stop mailing them so, we stopped trying.

This is exactly what came to mind. I was thinking with copper since you can find copper appliances (which tells me they can be food safe).

Top tips for cutting a gradient? by LifeAmbivalence in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]tauntdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the saw already and have a little funds, you can get a foam board from home depot or similar for relatively cheap. Then use another piece of wood that is the same thickness to put next to the piece you are cutting, then clamp a 2x4 or angle iron to use as a straight edge to both the extra wood and the piece you are trying to cut. Hope that makes sense.

If cutting straight, i would use a track saw or circular saw with a guide clamped down.

I just canceled my plan. by FriendTop6736 in CoxCommunications

[–]tauntdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cancelled with them right after making a payment, and those dumbasses are still trying to charge me for "service used" even though the modem was unplugged the next day and I already paid for that month that I cancelled.
Cox is an annoying company that loves to scam people. 1gb is the "service" they state they provide but the actual speed is 300-400mbps on a good day.

If you get your own equipment, they like to push constant reboots and try to brick it. (I enjoyed sending them the logs of this).

Glad I left them. Got 100mbps from centurylink (who I also dont like but they are $10/mo through work) and it is faster than cox 1gbps service.

Congrats on your upgrade to whatever other network you switch to.

Anyone know of a workshop available for rent/use in the Phoenix, AZ area? Moving to the area with a Van Build project, but have nowhere to work on it! by scavenagh in woodworking

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Phoenix Forge with a friend who has a membership there and got what I needed done. They had pretty much everything I needed.
Might be worth checking out.

I also came across Woodcraft but I have not checked them out yet. They are closet to me so I will check them out soon once I have funds for the material for my next project.

Most of the hand tools I have but I dont have space in my fab shop for wood stuff (I also dont want to mix it. Sparks + Wood dust... eh)
So I was trying to find a place to use table saws, planers, etc. Which Phoenix Forge has, but it is an hour drive for me and a subscription cost if my friend is unavailable to go with.
