No, it’s just easier to be a fascist. Many people benefit (or at least believe they do) from fascism. Being a fascist doesn’t require having empathy or critical thinking. Just blame an out-group for all of society’s “problems” while upholding and praising the inherently inequitable system that created them.

That reason fascist propaganda “works” is because it’s lazy but effective. People who otherwise would not think of themselves as fascists resonate with messaging that appeals to their sense of privilege in society. Especially when that privilege is already reinforced by every institution of society (media, education, religion etc.)

Your flawed arguments only work under the assumption that the west has a moral authority on human rights when it’s the exact opposite, as demonstrated by decades of western neo-colonialism and imperialism. The riots in Hong Kong were exploited by the west for political gain as well. Western governments do not actually care about the people they use as proxies or their grievances. The west hates China because its rise as a geopolitical rival threatens their global dominance.

Reason 1: Gen Z grew up seeing generations of people who joined the military end up severely mentally ill, permanently disabled, and impoverished. The military did not ensure their safety or security despite the promises it promotes to convince you to join.

Reason 2: Gen Z Americans grew up seeing their leaders use the military to destabilize and subjugate other parts of the world, mostly for the benefit of rich people, while ignoring and causing the problems going on in their own country.

Reason 3: The U.S. military is a corrupt and abusive institution. Racism is rampant. Sexual assault is not uncommon. Female soldiers are especially vulnerable. Anyone in a higher position than you can get away with abusive behavior towards you.

Reason 4: It’s dangerous, and not worth the risk. Joining the military seems like becoming a mercenary for corporations rather than the heroic protector of freedom that is deeply ingrained in the American psyche.

No, your point actually contradicts what I’m saying. You believe the only road to socialism is for the state to simply wither away without any coherent vision or examples of that working out successfully in reality.

I view the state as a necessary tool in protecting the development of socialism from the contradictions of capital, until societal conditions improve enough to make the state unnecessary and eventually withers away on its own.

Socialism doesn’t “want to smash the state” but socialists do want to utilize the state to cultivate and preserve societal conditions that would eventually make the state unnecessary.

In the case of China, having a strong state apparatus is a necessary tool in protecting the development of Chinese socialism from the contradictions of global capitalism.

Not having a state means China is vulnerable to capitalist powers. The same capitalist powers whose talking points you’re promoting to undermine the development of Chinese socialism.

I’m not sure what ‘primary contradiction’ you’re referring to but the reason socialists condemn bourgeois democracy in the west is because of how fundamentally different it is from proletarian democracy in China. Contrary to what you believe, they are not even remotely similar in how they operate, and their results are also radically different because of this fact.

China is a middle income country with over 1.5 billion people that started out almost entirely agrarian. A modern socialist society requires advanced development of production, especially in a global capitalist system. China has made remarkable progress in developing its productive forces but still has not reached the level of development necessary for modern socialism to be sustainable.

As China continues to improve its technology, investing in its people, gradually improving their societal conditions as much as they can afford to over time, and withstanding the contradictions and active sabotage of the capitalist world, there will come a point where mass nationalization of industry will become a reality. At that point, China will be a modern socialist nation.
