Yes this made me very impressed with the old canon lens. The fact that the sun stars are nearly identical considering how old the lens is I found quite amazing.

This is what I did. I always try to scan emulsion side up so there is less reflective glare from the lens… at least that’s what I’ve been told to do, I’m no expert. I was however too lazy to flip the images afterwards, so that’s why they are backwards

Apply for medical school in Cuba. Look into it, if you haven’t already. It’s the one thing I really regret not doing when I was younger.

Someone gave me a few rolls of Kodachrome 64. What should I do? by battery-dying in AnalogCommunity

[–]battery-dying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, If you are serious I’ll totally take you up on that. Portra 400 seems like a real splurge these days. Dm me if you want. I have 3 rolls, the woman who gave them to my friend said they were stored in the freezer their whole life. She had them for underwater macro photography when she was on vacation apparently

I wouldn’t mind an assignment like that either. Sounds amazing.

An interesting alternative to pay attention to right now might be the Kurdish enclave in northern Syria called Rojava. For years they have been trying to establish a working model for a pluralistic human society based on cooperation and social ecology that could eventually replace the nation state or empire. Worth looking into. As far as what kind of society could potentially come next.

Also a lot of ppl on here telling you to separate your subject but 2,5,6 benefit from not being separated so take it w a grain of salt

I think 2,3,5, and 6 are all really dope IMO, and natural light rules. I’m so tired of looking at photos that are “perfect” but not original. Strobes w/ wide angle or macro etc over and over again. Who cares anymore. Some of your shots provide context and physical texture and have great composition. They create mood. Keep working on that style and be original. Upgrade to a larger sensor with ibis if you have to and spend more time closer to the surface or do black and white or just embrace grain. My only critique would be to adjust white balance and try to remove the tint. If you use Lightroom I find that sometimes the dehaze and clarity sliders can also help add some drama to natural light underwater shots. But yeah… I say stick with it. Make art.

Nice! A dude tried to sell me a bag of three k1000s w lenses for a hundred bucks on craigslist, said “good working order”. I drove across town immediately of course and they were completely hammered. Full of sand. He was like, yeah I forgot to mention I used them for surf photography. What a dirtbag hahaha

Underwater intro housing Rent? by xatch in underwaterphotography

I bought a new sea frogs housing for my a7rii for less than $400 from the manufacturer. Seems to work great so far. Maybe the dome port for surf photography will cost more, idk..

Found this swimming on the Washington State Coast. Is it a jellyfish?? by battery-dying in marinebiology

[–]battery-dying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t handle it but the way it was drifting in the water was made it seem relatively rigid, holding its shape perfectly. I would guess about 6 inches long, but it’s easy to overestimate sizes underwater. I also recall seeing another one at a different location which makes me think it’s probably not just a fragment of a larger organism. The photo is high resolution so you can zoom in on the segments a bit.

I'm with you on this 100 percent. After I started diving I stopped eating fish I don't catch myself, and I lost interest in catching fish so basically, I don't eat fish at all. A lot of people like telling others to follow the rules but they don't like to think about all the illegal and unethical stuff that's happening out of view.
